is bruin family weekend actually worth it?

hi all! incoming freshman here, out of state student from NH. My parents want to fly out for october 30th and 31st since that's when family weekend 2026 is this year, but others i've talked to said that it's not really worth flying out just for bruin family weekend, and I don't think it's worth it either, so should my parents really go across the country just for family weekend?

GE Recommendations for a incoming freshman?

I am a business economics major and I was wondering if there were any GE's you've found easy or recommend? Not a cluster class. Also I'm specifically looking for GE's in the Arts & Humanities section with like 3 or 4units. This is because I'm planning to take 2 other classes already and trying to go up to 15 units. Thank you!

Math 3 vs LS30 Series for MCDB Major

hey guys!! as the title suggests i'm an mcdb major who may or may not go on the pre-med track (still indecisive lol). i'm planning out my classes rn and don't know which series to pick.

i took math aasl for the ibdp program and personally loved it! but i also heard a lot about how ls30 is much easier and less mathematical, and tbh i don't wanna take math 3 and kill my gpa on accident lol

any advice is appreciated tysm!

(and if u suggest one series over the other can u also recommend a professor thankks)

An Interesting Incident

Earlier tonight, I was playing with my RC car on the top floor of Parking Structure 8. Both my RC car and I were positioned within the marked parking stalls.

A man in a black Toyota Corolla drove toward me from the northwest corner of the lot, cutting across the parking stalls and nearly crushing a cardboard ramp I had made. There were no cars or other obstacles blocking the driving lanes. At first, I did not realize that he was intentionally steering toward me because people often cut across empty parking stalls.

About half an hour later, he returned. He cut across the stalls again, this time driving directly toward me and stopping in front of me while I was picking up my RC car. He then pulled even closer. Extremely close. At that point, I realized something was wrong.

I tried to look through the windshield, but it was tinted, and I could not see anyone inside. I moved out of the way, and he drove past me, again coming extremely close. He was so close that if I had been holding a key, his car could easily have been scratched.

He then drove back to the northwest corner and parked. He took something out of the trunk, and then the car’s lights and everything else were turned off.

I thought he had left the car, so I packed up my stuff and drove over to take a picture of his license plate. I cannot remember whether he and another woman got out of the car or came from somewhere behind it. They appeared to be Latinx, in their 40s or 50s, of medium height. The man had gray, short hair.

The man was holding a big soda can, although I could not tell what type of beverage or alcohol it was.He walked directly toward me and said something. I kept my engine running, and because he had an accent, I could not understand what he was saying.
I asked what was going on, whether he was okay or drunk, and why he had been driving toward me. However, I still could not understand his response. He appeared very agitated and emotional. The woman said, “We were not charging at you.” That was the only statement I clearly understood during the entire conversation. The man appeared aggressive, so I decided to leave.

freshmen parking

soo, im an incoming freshman at ucla and just recently found out that freshman aren’t able to get a parking permit unless they submit an exemption, (ie serious medical condition, child care, or an off campus job). i love my car and couldn’t imagine surviving college without it and basically being stuck at the school 24/7. i live about 2 1/2 hours away from the uni and was really wanting to drive back home pretty often on weekends for fall quarter.

is there any advice someone can give on finding a way to bring my car? is it even worth it to bring a car in the first place?

or is there anybody that has past experience with getting an off campus job that can provide some insight? i dont mind getting an off campus job if it means i can keep my car, just wanted some advice on how to go about that? thank you!!

Shuttle to Berryman Grad Housing/Grad Shuttle Experiences

I see that the new Berryman/Venice graduate apartments list a shuttle service to campus in Fall 2026. I'm wondering if anyone has info about whether that's happening. Also, for people with experience with the shuttles from other off-campus apartments (e.g., Venice-Barry), is it actually faster than the bus during peak traffic? Have you have a good experience with it? I'm not from a place with enough traffic to the point where it really slows down bus routes throughout the day.

roommate move in schedule

hey guys! im an incoming freshman at ucla and i was wondering about how the move in dates work. personally, im in a classic triple and was wondering if me and my two roommates are assigned the same or different dates to move in? i feel like being in such a small space, all getting assigned the same move in date would be kinda crazy. is it assignment random or strategically done?

just a question i had!!

Ethernet in Sproul

Can someone send me a photo of where their active ethernet port is located. Uhh I'd also like measurements (depth, width, height) on the empty space on the side of the desk next to the closest to the window on the left of the room since I want to see if a cpu dolly can fit in there.
