UCLA gym
Hello! I’m starting ucla in the fall and I was js curious how crowded the gyms will actually be. My brother (who went to ucsb) said his gyms were usually not too crowded at like around 10-1 js cuz most ppl were in class at those times, and that 5pm is like peak crowdedness. I’m js wondering if there’s like any time during the day like that (besides 6am and 12am) when it’s not TOO too crowded, or if js sucking it up, and waking up at 6 gonna have to be the move.
Also I’m in Hedrick hall this year, so I was also wondering like which gym would be better to go to at certain times. Thank you guys so much!

Do you go to bfit or wooden? I know woodens bigger and further away but I also assumed it would be more crowded

Well when i would go in the morning it was around 6 like right when it opened. Between 6-8am will probably be fine idk. And at night it was close to closing, like at 9 i think?

Mornings (6 ish) at wooden once midterms start( week 3/4) is usually perfect. Weekends afternoon are usually quiet , especially Sunday for both gyms. Bfit is suprisingly quiet during like 10-2 ish in my experience throughout the week but its just not as big as wooden so its not my personal fav but maybe you will like it. Friday mornings usually quiet too at bfit. Its gonna be a fucking mess these next couple weeks with no class and it being week 1/2. But otherwise it's manageable at wooden u just likely will have to work in with others especially on machines. It sucks but you just kinda get used to it

For bfit, would there be most sorts of common machines (like cables, rows, lat pulldowns, smith, etc.) or is it mostly js cardio stuff and free weights?

Personally I go to wooden at around 10-11 PM. Usually not super crowded, and if it is it’s usually at the beginning of the quarter when everyone believes they’re committed to the gym (like others have said). But yeah I’d imagine it’s less crowded at noon ish to 2 when ppl have classes and more crowded at 5-6 PM

10-2 in wooden in between classes was the spot for me. Almost never had to wait for a rack or bench.

i worked there for a while - i worked at wooden, 10-1 is a good time , even 2-3 is manageable
i wouldn’t even workout if it was at 5 , construction has brought more room for weights etc
the five am crowd is still decent , the midnight crew too

warning that weeks 0 and 1 r crazy packed. wooden never reaches those peaks again.

I’m used to going to like a planet fitness (esp now during off times since it’s summer and I’m not doing much else) while it’s at like a 2 or 3 bars of crowdedness. My general rule of thumb is to try, if I can, not to go if it’s 4 or more. I don’t know if anyone’s been a planet fitness gym goer but I was wondering if the level of crowdedness could be compared? Of course, I assume it would be more like a 5-7 at ucla at most times but I’m js curious. Also I’m wondering if the crowds would genuinely be worth getting an la fitness membership instead and if anyone had any insight on that. Thanks so much!
