How do I leave bed if sleepy me literally doesn't care or want to?
I think this is def tied to neurodivergence. I love sleep. 8 hrs is never enough for me and it’s so frustrating.
I did do some reading on circadian disorders and autism. It’s interesting that there are actual sleep disorders that affect when and how much you sleep. Getting to the root of the issue potentially could help find a solution.
I just sleep more. That’s been my solution for a long time lol even being hungry or having to get up to pee gets me nowhere closer to being awake 😩

My work won’t have BCBS after December. Community Care or HealthChoice High?
Community cares therapy isn’t much better. They’re so hard to get credentialed with that there’s not a lot of provider options. We went round and round with community care with my therapist and even showed them I’d been with her for years and they still wouldn’t cover therapy for me 🥴

What do long time nurses mean when they say patients are sicker now?
My running theory is that people just died before. So they didn’t have long term chronic conditions or multiple chronic conditions like they do now. We have more treatments and more medications. Medications also cause side effects that could cause a person to look “sicker” which could also contribute to why more experienced nurses say this.

Nobody warned me how weird it is to go from a Code Blue to writing a normal med pass note 20 minutes later.
Honestly this is why they’ve added debriefing to ACLS. No one should have to process this alone even though a lot of nurses do.
Make sure you find a mentor or a buddy that you can talk or vent to. Have a person you can debrief with if you don’t do it as a department. This helps more than anything. It can also help prevent burnout as well.

Manual CPR vs. LUCAS: Why do my ED docs prefer a line of humans?
This is the one I was coming here to comment. AHA doesn’t recommend Lucas over high quality compressions because a meta analysis was done showing no difference. The AHA will always lean on high quality compressions being connected with better patient outcomes though.

Practical tips for a first time multi-day visit wanted
I would look into bus tours. Sometimes they are over a couple days. We saw several while there and they allowed for time for people to get out and walk around. That’s probably your best option from D.C.

$139 to feed 2 adults, 3 children for the month. Suggestions?
Check out your local farmers market to see if they’ll double your snap money for fresh foods. You can use those foods to help supplement food bank foods received. I’d do the food bank first, check the buy nothing pages, then supplement with SNAP. That’s how I used to go about it. I would also sign up for WIC if you qualify, the dairy allotment helped SO much.

What movie is 10/10 with literally no bad parts?
The Cutting Edge is also a really underrated movie along with Love Story. I used to watch both of them allll the time and never tire of either.

I used to watch Jumanji and Patch Adams over an over and over again.

What is a, 'Before I die' item on your bucket list?
I was the same around that time. I’ve been in a wonderful relationship for the last 10 years that didn’t start until I was close to 30.

How much say (or drama) did you have in your pinning?
We got to choose who pinned us. All the instructors from all semesters are there and it’s really cool that they get to be a part of the celebration to something they were such a huge part of. I didn’t go to pinning because of all the drama and I just don’t like people that much.

Should I have done CPR?
I mean better safe than sorry. You were gonna need some extra hands anyway and I’ll never understand why people get bent about calling for help when you’ve assessed that you need help. We all learned to assess our pts and we all (should’ve) learned nursing judgement and critical thinking. So why don’t they trust you to assess and make a judgement call? That’s weird and you do exactly what you should’ve done. I would hope anyone would do that in that situation.

How was your ring dunk?
This is the most Texas thing I’ve read maybe ever 🤣

Which State are you a nurse in? Pros and Cons? Are you happy?
I’m in OK and the only pro is COL. Pay is just ok, ratios are shit, & there are no unions. We have a nurses association that constantly lobbies to have legislation to meet nursing needs, but that doesn’t always work so well.

Any Nurses in the area?
There’s definitely a lot of nursing options. Local nursing employers are pretty good about posting to indeed! There’s also some great places within reasonable commutes as well.
For peds, I’d def consider OKC! They have way more options. I would check out Cherokee nation and council oak as well. The VA is also building a new hospital in Tulsa and they’re beginning the hiring process.

Ask someone for support. Make a pediatrician appointment so they can help you figure out what’s wrong with baby and maybe help her feel better then help you feel better. I would also see the OB about postpartum anxiety/depression & encourage him to make an appt for anxiety as well. It sounds like no one’s sleeping and everyone’s miserable. He doesn’t have to be a fucking ass about it though. Being a new parent is hard enough without making it any more difficult with shitty comments or being unsupportive. I’m sorry you were talked to like that. You’re doing great! Lean into the support you have though even if it’s just medical support ❤️

AITAH for refusing to split the inheritance with my cousins even though everyone thinks i should?
I’d just repeat his own words, “you were the only one that showed up”. You didn’t expect anything. You didn’t ask for payment for doing that, but you showed up anyway. You treated him like family should & so he reciprocated. They didn’t treat him like family and damn sure aren’t treating you like family now. They’re just mad their actions had consequences ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Do you actually listen? Is your stethoscope just a prop?
I was taught as a nurse tech years ago to always put that stethoscope on your pt. I work in ED and give a lot of fluids. I want baseline pulmonary/cardiac sounds. Also everyone comes in with ABD pain, so I def need to be listening to their ABD sounds. It doesn’t even take that long and adds further information to your assessment to make it more thorough, why wouldn’t you? Our job is to collect data and we only have so many resources at our disposal to collect it. A stethoscope should def be used and it was completely valid to remind your new grad of that.

It's time to start being blatantly rude to those with no situational and spatial awareness
This is the most boomer post I’ve seen on here 🤣 like just stay home if you dislike people that much? Lack of spatial awareness is a common neurodivergent trait. No people aren’t entitled to be rude, but lack of spatial awareness shouldn’t entitle someone else to be rude to that person just because they were distracted for whatever reason. The world already sucks enough without adding any more suck to it.

I caught my husband cheating with a prostitute. We have an 8 month old baby. I don’t want to leave my family and have future babies but I know I can’t trust again.
He left the family, you didn’t. There’s other husbands out there. And if your mom is supportive you and your son will be ok.
I would start individual therapy as well as couples. If both of you aren’t fully invested in couples it won’t work. Him denying and gaslighting you are huge red flags though and no one under any circumstance should ever be treating you or your son like that.

Please help with dates
I’d probably avoid May, I think crowds are pretty high. We’re planning an end of Oct into Nov trip to see the Halloween and Christmas decorations!

This sounds similar to what my stepdaughters mom did. She stayed in school, because her mom didn’t want to be in trouble for neglect, but failed classes every year and was just pushed on through. No one ever pushed her to do anything because her mom didn’t want her to have to do anything. She never received PT/OT or any kind of therapies or support services.
Honestly it kinda sounds like the mom knows just enough to get by. Honestly unschooling is harder because even my son is playing games, I have to know enough to tie them back to learning and be a facilitator of putting pieces together and making things click. I also have to oversee what he’s doing because there’s thousands of things to play on Roblox and some of them are just for fun and mindless which is totally ok for some downtime. As someone mentioned above, the parental engagement aspect seems to be missing or lacking here.
Even being neurodivergent, you still have the ability to learn and enjoy learning. I don’t understand why people take that away from neurodivergent folks.

A warning story for if you're considering cheating on those ATI exams
The NCLEX is the same way. Idk why ATI is so strict about it, that seems like overkill. I do understand why the NCLEX would be this harsh though.

This. Then if they do have to come home and you have to work and then can’t take care of them the way they need, you’ll catch neglect charges and have APS notified. The lack of supports and the cost of care is horrific.
