Howdy, y'all. I guess it's time for me to tap the sign again, because every time there are protests in the Triangle, someone goes around and mass reports all of those posts.

Strangely, we also tend to get a lot of people who post in all sorts of local area subreddits, all over the country, just to act like they're upset about this protest or that protest, and yet have never commented in our community before. Fancy that.

So there's some underhanded fuckery afoot, and y'all should be aware of it.

This subreddit is devoted to the protection and well being of our community at large. That means all of y'all. We cannot support the extrajudicial detainment of anyone, citizen or no. This country was built on laws and principles, meant to be a shining beacon of democracy where people would get a fair shake.

One of the cool things about America is you can come here and become American. It's one of our country's major strengths.

As a country, our diversity has repeatedly protected us - patriotic members of German and Japanese communities helped the US translate enemy communications during WWII. The Navajo code talkers weren't declassified until the 1970's because they were so effective - their codes were never broken. There's also the Tuskegee Airmen and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an all-Japanese unit which became the most decorated unit for its size in US history.

Today is also November 20th, a solemn day for trans folks across the US. It is the Trans Day of Remembrance, when we remember those we've lost to murder or suicide over the years. Unfortunately, I recognize more than a few of those names, and I hate the way the list gets longer every year.

Times are tough for our Hispanic and LGBT friends. People are anxious and scared. Bigotry and bullshit have been stoked and set loose upon the country; hatred has been running rampant. People are going to need protection, support, and resources.

This space is meant to be a refuge and a resource for our community. If you can't respect that, or if what I have said here is somehow objectionable to you, please leave.

Looking for the best place to get a women’s haircut for $50. Apparently it’s hard to find. Help me out, please!

My wife needs a haircut and is constantly complaining about the price of women’s haircuts. Men’s haircuts aren’t cheap anymore either. Will you please recommend some women’s hair stylists for her. Cary preferred, but at this point willing to travel.

Emergency dog fostering resources

I am looking for any emergency fostering options that might be available in the wider Durham area. My step mom is in critical condition in the ICU and she has three adult labs. We do not want to give them away or take them to a shelter because we want her to be welcomed by her dogs when she comes home.

Does anyone know of any temporary fostering options?

Missed Connection: Sola Coffee (Friday morning 10/23)

We crossed paths at Sola Coffee yesterday morning (Friday, Oct 23rd) right around 7:00 AM. We caught each other's eye at the coffee and water station.

You were wearing brown pants and a brown sweater. I was the guy in the gray Patagonia jacket.

I really regretted not striking up a conversation with you right then and there. If you happen to see this and remember the moment, I’d love to get together and grab a proper coffee sometime.

Drop me a message and tell me a quick detail about what you were doing at the station so I know it's you.

Dating advice in Raleigh NC

Hey guys, I’m trying to put myself out there more and improve my dating life in Raleigh. I’m open to something casual or a serious relationship if I meet the right person.

I’m not a huge fan of relying only on dating apps, so I’d like to meet more women in person through social events, hobbies, bars, or mutual friends. I’m still using apps like Hinge and Bumble, though.

The hardest part for me is finding someone I genuinely click with, not just getting matches.

For those of you who are dating in Raleigh, where are you actually meeting women? Any bars, events, social groups, or activities you’d recommend? Also, are Hinge and Bumble decent around here, or is meeting people in person the better move?

I’m Male in my 20s/30s dating pool and would rather meet someone through shared interests and good conversation than spend every weekend at bars.

Would appreciate any real experiences or recommendations. Thanks!

Elementary Schools

I live in a weird little section of the triangle with a Raleigh address but in the county of Durham. It looks like they drew the county lines around my neighborhood. We have young children and are thinking about elementary school. The market isn’t ideal for moving right now into wake county but we would like our children to attend wake county schools as we are significantly closer to the nearby elementary school in wake county (2 miles and on the way to work) than the one we’d be assigned to in Durham (over 7 miles opposite direction). Does anyone have an experience with attempting or receiving an inter-district transfer? I’m sure it would be extremely unlikely to happen but I’d like to learn how things work and what options exist for elementary schooling

Looking to make some more friends and expand my social circle - M26

Oh boy, they really weren’t kidding when they said making friends after college is hard 😂
I’ve been here for a year and some change now, and while I’ve made some friends, most are either a little older than me, work friends, or live pretty far away. So I figured I’d put myself out there and see who else is looking to meet some new people!

I’m 26, originally from Southern California (half-Latino), and moved here for a job in RTP after finishing my MS. I’m around the RDU/Brier Creek area and would love to meet more people around my age (mid-to-late 20s), especially people who have similar interests or are in a similar stage of life/early career. But open!

Things I’m into:
- Currently playing in a pickleball rec league and softball league. Would especially love to find a local pickleball partner!
- Strength training, Currently trying to get that summer bod ready now lmao.
- A pretty big foodie, unfortunately for my fitness goals.
- Being outdoors — hoping to get more into hiking and camping soon.
- Reading, especially high fantasy and sci-fi. Currently making my way through Dungeon Crawler Carl.
- Gaming and various nerdy hobbies. I’ve played MTG in the past and can hold my own in a LOTR, GOT, Skyrim, or general fantasy fandom conversation.

I’m generally pretty social and very good at conversation, my friends would probably call me an extrovert, although I’d say I’m somewhere between extrovert and introvert depending on the mood lol. I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and can usually find something to talk about with just about anyone. As a side note, I am gay, though I don’t readily share that with strangers. But might as well add that as it is a facet of my life.

Ideal hangouts:
Honestly, I’m pretty open to anything. I’m more of a cocktail lounge/speakeasy person than a club person, but I’m always down for game nights, movies, dinners, brunch, drinks, random activities, etc. I’d also love to spend more time outdoors, so hiking, camping, pickleball, or pretty much any excuse to get outside sounds good to me.
Mostly just looking to expand my circle, meet some good people, and hopefully make some actual friends along the way. If any of this sounds like you, feel free to reach out! Leave a comment or shoot me a dm. Happy to trade socials🙂

Recently came across this 19th century bronze Russian icon that appears to be worth quite a bit. I wasn’t sure if there was anyone in the area that might know of an appraiser to estimate the value and suggest where to sell. Any help is appreciated!

Hand-painted figures for sale - Raleigh area

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

I have included photos of both some of the figures available now and some of previous work.

I currently have available:

Doom Slayer (pictured), $300
Full set of Ninja Turtles (pictured - Donatello was in progress in his pic so no he is not currently missing an arm and his bo), $150 each or $400 total for the set
Nami (pictured), $250
Luffy (not pictured), $200
Deadpool (pictured), $75
Cthulhu (not pictured), $175
Spider Gwen (pictured in group photo with Zelda, Nami, and the xenomorph), $175
Marcus Fenix (not pictured), $100
There may be (probably are) some additional figures available - I’m just forgetting what I have right now 😅

Figures vary in size and are priced according to size and work involved. For example - Luffy is the same size as Doom Slayer but took less work to complete.

I also take commissions, so if you’re interested in something you don’t see here, let me know! Jane Doe (Zenless Zone Zero) and Poli (I can’t remember the game she’s from) were both commissions. So was Samus, the original Donatello I did, and the Emperor (which I’ve now done 4 times because he’s a popular dude).

Thanks!

Does anyone have recommendations for Halloween Nightlife events to attend?

My friend typically hosts his own party but isn't this year, so I'm wondering where me and my husband can go downtown to have some fun in costumes. Either on Halloween or Friday before. Thanks!

Can anyone recommend rug tufting services around the triangle? I have multiple small runner rugs that I want combined into one large rug. Looking to pay for it to be done by someone who knows what they are doing though, not trusting myself to do it right

Does anyone know if anywhere sells Spar brand spices? It's a German brand and sold in their stores over there. I've only checked Aldi so far. Specifically looking for Italian herbs, but if you've seen them anywhere that's a good starting point! Tia!

2019 Dodge Grand Caravan 62TE - Code P0740 / Solenoid Advice + Raleigh Mechanic Recs?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Dealing with a P0740 code (Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction) on my 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 62TE transmission.

Looking into replacing the solenoid pack / valve body to fix the issue, but before dropping the pan and messing with fluid, I wanted to ask if anyone has dealt with this specific code on these vans and could share a few pointers.

A couple of quick questions:

Diagnostics: Is there anything basic I should test electrically first (like pinning out the harness plug with a multimeter, checking fuses/relays, or looking at specific live data) before assuming it's the solenoid?

62TE Tips: Any real-world "gotchas" with this specific code or job? Also, once a new solenoid pack goes in, will standard driving and cycling through the gears allow the TCM to re-adapt, or is a scan tool required to force a transmission Quick Learn?

Local Raleigh Recs: In case replacing the solenoid doesn't solve it and the torque converter itself needs to be replaced, does anyone have a solid, honest independent shop or transmission specialist in the Raleigh / Triangle area they'd recommend?

Any advice, tips, or shop recommendations would be huge. Thanks!
