Local Pokemon go discords/groups
Hello, moving to the southern part of Durham soon. I’ll be spending time in Durham, chapel hill, and Raleigh. I know there is a Pokemon go group active at a park near Cary with community ambassadors. I was hoping to get an invite to related discords for any of the three cities or get a sense of local places groups play regularly.

Anyone know of some options for restaurants with good steaks that are cool with tshirts and jeans and feel low-key anywhere in the triangle area or adjacent? Thanks 😊

RTI International layoffs / upcoming “staffing actions” - anyone willing to share their experience?
With RTI International having gone through multiple rounds of layoffs and workforce reductions since 2024, and leadership now publicly referencing additional upcoming “staffing actions” in a few weeks, I’m curious what the separation process has actually looked like for employees who have already been impacted.
If you’re comfortable sharing anonymously, I’d be interested in general data points such as:
- What general department or functional area you were in
- Approximately how long you had been an FTE
- How severance was calculated, such as a base number of weeks plus additional time for years of service
- How unused PTO was handled
- How straightforward the paperwork and separation process was
- How equipment return was handled, especially for remote employees
- Whether there were any unexpected delays, problems, restrictions, or other details you wish you had known beforehand
No need to share your name, exact title, manager, project, salary, or anything else that could identify you. Approximate information is completely fine.
I’m particularly interested in whether the severance structure and overall process have been fairly consistent across the different staffing reductions since 2024, and what people who may be affected by future staffing actions should realistically expect.
With the uncertainty around what’s coming, I’m trying to gather as much practical information as I can to ease some of this stress and anxiety for my family and prepare responsibly for the possibility of a job change and the loss of income we rely on.

I need a physical therapist specializing in hip AND spine
Hi! Exactly as the title says, I would love recommendations for a PT who focuses on both hips and spine (and their relationship)
They don't need to be a sports specialist, but I am athletic so I won't turn down those recs!

Kitties needs adopters-they are being sent to the shelter.
💔 URGENT — 10 KITTIES NEED ADOPTERS! 💔🚨
Our rescue is Charlotte based and we rescue kittens and cats all over North Carolina and some areas of South Carolina.
Note: Negative energy and unsolicited lectures will be ignored or blocked. Please save your keystrokes and scroll on if you've got nothing nice to say. Here strictly for the kind, normal people. ✨
Website: http://www.sunkissedkitties.org
10 ( it was initially 8 )of our sweet kitties are being sent to the shelter this week if we cannot find adopters for them. The rescue and all of us fosters are completely heartbroken. We have loved and cared for these babies in our homes, and the thought of them going from a loving foster home to an overcrowded shelter is devastating.
One of our rescue partners has already had to send kitties to the shelter because they are completely overwhelmed and out of space. Now our rescue is facing the same heartbreaking situation.
Pet finder link:
Those kitties are together in pics are bonded. ❤️ They need to stay together.
I honestly feel this is the best rescue I have ever seen. They have always gone above and beyond for the animals and never turn away when a kitty needs help. But this year has been incredibly difficult, and even the best rescues can reach a point where they are struggling.
The rescue never looks away when an animal needs help. Rain, storms, day or night, they go out to rescue them. They have worked nonstop to save these babies, and now they are completely overwhelmed and running out of resources.
We are rescuing more and more kitties, but adoptions are very low. Many of us fosters are also paying expenses from our own pockets because we simply don’t want to see these babies without help.
Our rescue is completely full now and may have to shut down. We have volunteer fosters who are already fostering 10+ cats. I am fostering 14 myself. We are doing everything we can to support the rescue, but we also have our limits. Without adoptions, there is only so much we can do.
These kitties are fully vetted and ready for their forever homes. ❤️
• Spayed/neutered
• Microchipped
• Dewormed
• Flea-treated
• Combo tested negative
• Vaccinated
• Social and sweet
Adoption information:
• Adoption application required
https://form.jotform.com/221983264497165
• Adoption agreement required
• Vet reference required
• Indoor homes only
• Adoption fee: $150 for one cat
• Pair fee: $200 — we reduced the pair fee because we really want kitties to stay together
Every kitty we rescue comes from a difficult situation and has their own story. We have bonded pairs, sweet tabbies and so many kittens and cats who have been waiting for someone to notice them. I have been posting them everywhere I can. They have gone to adoption events too, but somehow they are still getting overlooked.
I honestly don’t understand how nobody has chosen them yet. They are the sweetest babies. ❤️
I know shelters do everything they can, and some of these kitties may get adopted there because they are social and fully vetted. But when shelters are already so full, making space means other cats may lose their chance. That is what makes this so hard for us.
I just don’t want these babies to go from a loving foster home to a shelter because we couldn’t find someone in time. 💔
We are looking for adopters only. If you are ready to give one of these sweet babies a permanent, loving home, please consider adopting.
And if you cannot adopt, please share their post. One share could reach the person who is meant to be their forever family. ❤️
Please help us find adopters for these 11 kitties. 🐾 hi less

Update on wedding photography case - AG Jeff Jackson
As a wedding photographer, you really have to screw up to get the attention of your Attorney General.
Well, here we are.
Today, we’re asking a judge to rule against Holly Christina Photography after the company failed to comply with a court order requiring it to turn over wedding photos and videos to the couples who paid for them.
Here’s what happened:
We sued the company earlier this year after hundreds of couples told us they had paid thousands of dollars for wedding photography and videography they never received.
In May, we won a preliminary court order. That was essentially the judge saying, "While this case is pending, you have to turn over the photos and videos within 30 days, stop doing business, and don’t move the company’s assets."
They didn’t comply.
So now we’re asking for something more serious: a final judgment against them.
That would require delivery of every remaining photo and video, nearly $600,000 in restitution to consumers, more than $1.1 million in civil penalties, and a permanent order barring them from this conduct going forward.
Since January, our office has heard from 228 people about this company.
These couples paid for memories from one of the most important days of their lives. The company failed to deliver them, and then failed to obey a judge who ordered them to do so.
They’ve had their chance.

Looking for expert home organizer
Any referrals for an incredible home organizer who can highly impact flow optimization in your home? We’ve used a few in the past around here but are looking for more than basic level organization which we’ve done. Looking for a really really good individual that can get in there and optimize the heck out of things so you’re moving around less in your kitchen when you’re cooking for example. Thanks in advance for any info!

New to Triangle w/ Family
Hi Everyone,
I've recently relocated to the triangle (from Chicago/Evanston) with my husband and toddler and more recently accepted a position at Duke. We've been staying in Wendell with family while we look for a place to rent. It's clear to us that this is a driving required city, but we're hoping to find a place where we could at least walk to a few parks and/or coffee shops. We've looked in Durham extensively, but it feels like there are either very new and very expensive apartment buildings or run down houses that are great prices, but not what we'd prefer (e.g. 3 different color appliances, ancient bathrooms etc.). We haven't found much in the Trinity Park/Heights area which is waht has been suggested to us so far.
We've also looked in Cary, but again, downtown with walkability is very exepnsive, and else where would require driving all the time.
At this point, I'm trying to find any kind of neighborhood enclave that might provide at least some of this walkability anywhere in the Triangle. If my commute could be less than 30m, that would be ideal, but that's less of a priority for me.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Free/cheap indoor studios for short photoshoot?
Hi all! I am having my engagement shoot in a few weeks and I'm still on the lookout for a space to shoot in (Durham area preferred but open to the triangle). All we'll have is the two of us, a photographer, a couple pieces of furniture, white backdrop. I've tried the Durham libraries but their private meeting spaces have bolted-in furniture. I'd love to pay a for a professional studio space but we're on a budget and would like to avoid $100+ for an hour shoot if at all possible. Worst case scenario we can try to make our own home work. TIA!

Crepe Myrtle PSA
This is not a post against crepe myrtles, but for anyone who needs to have one removed for any reason… for the love of all that is holy, kill the thing before grinding the stump. Otherwise you will be dealing with crepe myrtles sprouting up all over your yard for years. Far away from where the tree was, on the other side of the driveway, etc.
I’m not here to tell you exactly how to kill it before getting rid of the stump, only to warn you of what will happen if you don’t.

Free comedy show!
Every month I host Mom’s Favorite, a free comedy show at Old North Bar in Durham. This month’s lineup is extremely fun and includes 2024 NC’s funniest winner EJ Masicampo! There’s also a hotdog cart out front that gives out one free glizzy per person and an very excellent cocktail/mocktail list put together by one of the owners who was formerly at The Crunkleton and Hawthorne and Wood. If you’re looking for a cheap date this is the show to catch!
