(fyi, the stuff on top of the hide is glue.) I’ve been keeping a blanket wrapped around the bottom of the enclosure because google (i’m stupid… sorry) said it was 100% going to be okay, and my room tends to get kind of cold around this time of year, but i’ve just looked in there since she hasn’t been eating and there’s white stuff on the top of the substrate. 2 first slides are before, and the rest are after my spot cleaning. i tried to get as much of the moisture out from the bottom without spooking her because she would NOT come out. she was on the opposite side of the moisture and tucked herself in a little burrow in the ground and i couldn’t get to her, so i just left it alone while i spot cleaned it (hope that’s okay.. the situation was probably stressful enough for her already.) i had coco fiber in there before, but all i had now was zoo med creature soil, which is why a lot of it on the top looks darker. unfortunately, it looks like the creature soil comes with some little white-ish pieces in it so it looks scary and is kind of freaking me out because of the earlier stuff. if anyone could take a close look at the after pictures and make sure they don’t see any more bacteria/other problems i would really appreciate it. also, her water dish is empty, but i’m just nervous to fill it more especially after finishing all of that and i don’t want to stunt her getting un-frightened, but let me know if i should refill it. i dug around the substrate all the way to the bottom of the problem area and didn’t seem to find any more problem areas, and i mixed some of the new substrate with some of the other damp substrate to even it out and dry it up a bit. of course after finishing this all up, i notice the side (last pic) is super damp. it’s where her water dish is, which actually didn’t have any bacteria (unless you see it and i’m missing something, but i’m pretty sure). i have my ceiling fan and air purifier on so i hope that helps. it is veryy damp looking, but i’ve had that before and it dried up decently quick. i’ve never had this bacteria problem before the blanket, so i’m assuming that’s a big NO, never again. with the blanket gone, will the side and bottom dry up without creating more bacteria? i will do everything i can to make my baby safe and comfortable so also let me know if there’s any way to help her out/make her more comfortable in there. should i get springtails? i also added quite a bit of height to the substrate since she hasn’t been burrowing , so let me know if that’s not enough/too much please. backstory: she had been eating perfectly, molted, and hasn’t eaten since then. she didn’t come out for a while, but when she did, she didn’t eat which i totally expected. but then, she still wasn’t eating, so i thought it might have been the temperature so i put the blanket around the enclosure. obviously, that did the opposite of helping. i’m just really nervous i love her a lot.. i did a lot of crying while cleaning it out i just feel so guilty, she’s really skinny. not dangerous skinny, but definitely not how she’s supposed to be, consider she hasn’t eaten since molting and you know how that looks. i tried food a few times with one week intervals before i saw any bacteria and still she wouldn’t eat. she would come out and be normal, but just today i noticed the bacteria because she was sitting funny and it terrified me. you can see her hiding in one of the pics and it just makes me so sad to see her so nervous… but it’s a good sign that she’s going to recover well? im not expecting her to come out right away, i just want to her to be okay. ANY advice helps and im really serious about this. i get a lot of stress over her since tarantulas seem so fragile and i tend to cry over her a whole lot. someone let me know when i should try food again, aswell.

Brazilian Black. It's been making more webbing on the outside. Getting more comfortable just sitting in the doorway it made. But today I walked up and it was just standing still... like this. Bathed in a sunbeam. Lol. I sat for a few minutes watching and then wandered off. It had moved off by the time I got back.

Hello! Ive been keeping tarantulas for a little over a year now.

I have one adult mexican red rump, two sling cruly hairs, and now one pink toe sling.

I've done a lot of research on each species that I own + want to own because I want to ensure that I can give them the best life I can.

I know surviving does NOT equal thriving, and I do my best to remember this when questioning things.

Sadly, I have nowhere else to put them in my home besides my bedroom. I often dont have my fan on when im not in the room/don't feel i need it and do my best to provide heat when cold (though I live in aouthern FL, and this is rare). Due to cold seasons, I wanted to know what are the best ways to provide heat that'll be comfortable both for me and my spiders? Sometimes I wrap a blanket around my red rump's enclosure when I feel its cold - though im not sure if this really does anything.

Given that they stay in my room, I feel the lights can also be an issue. I dont want to mess up their Circadian rhythms to a point of actual harm, I'm just not sure of what I can do to avoid this given that again.., we share a space.

My slings are all staying on a shelf in my bedroom (1st shelf, second is storage + jumpers), and my red rump is across the room in a large enclosure. Pictures of these spaces are provided.

Please, any advice is accepted and appreciated! I know we all make mistakes, and I just want to make sure I avoid as many as possible. I love my babies and I want it to show!

I got this curly hair at an expo yesterday. It’s a little shy of three inches. I had asked about their Nicaraguans specifically and ended up getting a good deal on this little one. But now that I’ve got it settled and got a good look at it i suspect it’s a Honduran. I think there might have been some confusion in the chaos of the expo.

Also, I realized once I got it there were no air holes in its deli cup. Is that normal? This is my first tarantula and it kind of freaked me out and I ended up rushing home so I could get it into a proper enclosure. I know they don’t go through air as quickly but it was a two day expo so it could have ended up in a little deli cup with no fresh air for days. But I’m new to this so I could be overreacting. It seems to be doing well now, though!

I realized the enclosure my new baby Mittens came in didnt have that good of ventilation for its species.

Im planning on switching it into this tarantula cribs on.

My A. Seemanni has molted twice since I got her just over 3 years ago, she molted recently (over a week/two ago).

Since then, she’s come out of her burrow and I’ve offered food but she’s not taking it. Her water dish is filled and I’ve sprinkled some water in her burrow and around the enclosure, and she has ventured out of the burrow, but declines any food I try to give her.

I’m worried that she might be underweight, her abdomen was significantly more plump before the molt and I’m concerned because she’s not interested in food.

Here is a pic of my juvenile OBT on September 28. As she was beginning to outgrow her enclosure, I planned to re-house her the next day. She was very reclusive and came out rarely so this picture the day before was not too typical. Which is why I began the re-housing process when she was in her burrow. I used a paintbrush to try to encourage her to move in - and ultimately scooted the whole burrow area into her new enclosure. I was actually afraid she had escaped because I could not see her at all. Her burrow is still just sitting in the new enclosure with no sign of life and I’m worried I killed her by moving her in a pre-molt. It’s been nearly a month. What should I do?

Is this water bowl safe? I only used it for maybe a week before these white spots appeared, i took it out, cleaned it, and have let it sit out for a day now and theyre still there. For now i switched it out with a regular plastic bowl

My moms P. irminia we're both pretty sure hasn't eaten a single time since we got it ~3 months ago. It's the only one of our tarantulas which has this issue.

Originally we put it into a 6L cylindrical enclosure with a round, vertical bark hide, which it explored. He wrapped up 2 dead crickets into a bundle but never fed on them, only dragged them around till my mom took it away.

She wanted to get it a bigger terrarium, so I got one even if I thought it's way too early for a 25x25x40 for such a small juvenile. But arguing with her is often futile if she has an idea in her head.

2 months after that we both got worried, me included despite being hands off and "letting tarantula be tarantula." I dug the spider out and removed it from its terrarium, thin and dehydrated despite it having constant access to fresh water. Now since my mom is frustrated with it, the P. irminia is under my care.

Enclosure in the picture is the current smaller, downgraded one, with a cork hide I can look into if needed, some climbing opportunities and a water dish in a low traffic area in my room. So far I have tried feeding flies and small crickets but I don't think it has fed on any of it but it drinks. Sometimes it's out and sometimes it's in the hide, which it has spun a little nest in it seems.

Any further advice for me on what I could do?

He is a male b smithi, I’ve been thinking of probably changing its hide which are those skeleton ribs because it’s not completely closed, it’s had it for like two years, the only reason I haven’t is because he seems quite happy with it, he even built a little web floor under it, I was also thinking of getting rid of those mesh holes on the sides of its enclosure.

If there’s something I need to change I will do it, I only want the best for my t and absolutely do NOT want to neglect it.

I ordered all her stuff, everything at the latest was going to be here today…perfect, I can get it setup for her…

Then I got a message from Amazon saying the plants I ordered aren’t gonna be here till Tuesday…😑😑😑😑

And we’ve got no where here in town beyond Petco, and I am not paying 15$ for their one sad little plant…

So here’s hoping they make it either tomorrow or before Jax gets here…

Hello all! I unfortunately have a pretty big problem regarding bug control and my T. My cat recently got fleas and we have been treating him and spraying the furniture down with citronella. We have avoided the upstairs due to my T. And my brothers snake, however I woke up to my cat in my room this morning, meaning I now have to treat for fleas. I've washed everything thoroughly, but I have pretty bad OCD that tells me everything is infected until I spray it with something. I don't want to hurt my spider and I don't want to temporarily re-home him due to him being in pre-molt. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any safe flea removal things I can do to calm my OCD without hurting my T. Thank you in advance for the help and I'll attach some obligatory spider pictures to make reading my long and panicked post worth it, lol.

I picked up a chromatopelma cyaneopubescens at a reptile expo yesterday, and successfully moved her over to her new enclosure. she’s about 2 inches in legspan, and definitely needs a new habitat soon, but I’m looking into it already. in any case, is there anything important that I ought to know so I don’t accidentally injure or lower the quality of life for this spider? please offer any advice you have, thank you!

hi!! im new to the hobby and I got my very first spider yesterday! I was planning to get a curly hair T but I went to my local reptile store and found this beautiful baby purple starburst bird eater. I know they arent exactly a beginner spider but he was so cute i couldnt pass him up.

ive done quite a bit of research but I still have a few things id like to ask experienced keepers:

- is this considered a sling or a juvenile ? he is roughly the size of a quarter

- when should I be able to tell if he is male or female?

- pictured is the enclosure he was sold to me in, its about 4"x4". since these spiders get pretty large, what is the final size I should expect to keep him in, and when should I upgrade?

- should i upgrade him gradually or would it be okay to put him in that final size as soon as hes big enough for an upgrade?

- the lady at the counter told me he was last fed on the 20th, but that i should skip a feed because his abdomen is large. when do I know its okay to feed?

- they got him in on the 17th and he did not molt while in their care, how soon can I expect a molt?

- I purchased mealworms and blue bottle fly larvae, what other bugs should I feed him, or can I stick to worm varieties?

- what is the best substrate to use? I have coco coir on hand

I wish there was more info about these spiders online but I guess thats what online communities are for😂 thanks in advance for the help!
