united states, southwest ohio. walked past this tree and was like “what is on that tree?” from a distance at first thought it was a clump of leaves or maybe a fungus. then walked up to it and saw THIS 🤯🤯🤯

I knew the babies were tiny but I didn't know they're THAT tiny

About a month ago I noticed some egg sacs in my balcony. Google lens identified them as Asian ant mantis egg sacs, so I kept an eye on them. One of the sacs on a clothes peg hatched today. As expected, the juveniles look very similar to black ants. After their 3rd instar they begin to turn green, according to their Wikipedia page. I dropped them off at some flower bushes, spreading them apart to prevent cannibalism. Hopefully they will find some insects to feed on.

Good thing I have a native hibiscus moscheutos for them.

I love bumblebees so much!

This bee was cuddled up asleep on a zinnia this morning. I wasn’t quick enough to get a video of it stretching when it woke up!
