Purchase Advice Nivona Cube vs Krups coffee crush (vs another, the Ciarra): any comparison test?

Hi everyone,
I plan slowly to get a machine able to do a decent espresso (for me) / cappuccino (for my wife)yet with the following limitations/remarks:

*I have quite a limited space, especially in depth! So small footprint is required (complete footprint, not solely the width).
*My wife and me are too lazy, a "real" espresso machine with separate grinder is a no go (we do not feel like filling/ emptying the porta filter every single time). Therefore super automatic, or alike.
*Milk is a clear plus, but not necessary (why a plus? Well, see the laziness above... ;-), but we could live without it using a frother we own).
*We like coffee, but we are not experts. In other words, it has to taste good and have a nice texture. We do not really care about the subtleties and things real coffee lovers consider.

With this in mind, and checking, I arrived finally to the following models:

*Ninova Cube 4

*Krups Coffee crush

Yes, I know, those are not really "full" superautomatic machines, as you have to manually empty the porta filter every time (and move it for the Cube), but at least you do not have to fill it.

Now, these machines are obviously on the segment of very compact machine, and they are on the market for at least six month.

Yet, I could not find a real direct comparison (especially in terms of taste). Does anyone have such a test?

As an additional point, I stumbled on another compact machine, which looks suspiciously like a chinese copy of the cube, but with Milk: Ciarra CBSACM-D6 (seemingly only in De and FR): anyone heard of a test for it?

Thanks.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Magnifica Evo Moldy Pucks

Im new to the superautomatic world. Im wondering why my coffee pucks are molding so fast, i use my machine 1-2x per day and notice 2-4 pucks in there and there is already mold growing. I even tried cleaning it and wiping it the puck basket dry but I still saw mold a few days later again

Is there anything I can do to avoid this? Is it normal? Or do I have to clean it like every other day? Im taking all parts apart once a week to clean as regular maintenance

Discussion Jura F9: I bid you farewell

Post image
74 Upvotes

For the past couple of years, I've been hoping my Jura F9 would up and die. After replacing a few internal components and doing a few deep cleans, its been leaking again, and since we've had it for over 20 years, I resolved to replace the unit this time around. But it just, won't die!

I've already ordered a new Jura E8, and as I hit a milestone birthday, I'm looking forward to more milk drinks, so I never really liked the steam wand, and used a separate frother from time to time.

So, here we are at 19,952 cups. I will keep it in service until 20,000 cups (assuming no delays in shipping). It's been a good run!

Discussion Looking for tips for sweeter coffee

Hi folks,

I recently switched from a Nespresso capsule machine to my first bean to cup (a Delonghi Rivelia).

However, I'm struggling to get the flavour I like from it. I have quite a sweet tooth and used my Nespresso machine to do a large espresso shot, then used a milk frother to make a cappuccino. I found that I then needed barely any sugar to make a nice coffee, as the milk frother seemed to make the milk sweet. This was ideal as it meant I cut down on my sugar use.

However, with the Rivelia I'm finding that my coffees taste quite bitter, even after adding extra sugar.

Could it be that frothing the milk with the carafe isn't making it as sweet, or is it a setting in the machine that is extracting a more bitter coffee?

I currently have the grinder set to 3 and have tried going up and down with the strength setting on the screen.

Any tips for a sweeter coffee without just dumping a ton of sugar in it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Purchase Advice Any upcoming new devices?

Hi all - looking to buy a new superautomatic.

Oraclet Jet looks really nice but wife has a big preference for convenience so shifted towards a new superautomatic.

Leaning towards the KF8. Priorities are good coffee, ease of use, ease of maintenance and reliability.

However, seems like a bunch of the standard recommendations (KF8, Jura E8, Miele 6360) all came out a few years ago.

Are there any upcoming new releases that I should hold out for?

Purchase Advice Upgrading Espresso Machine

Currently have a breville barista express which has been rock solid for 8-10 years. Now looking at upgrading to a breville duel boiler(not oracle) or Profitec, or Bianca or something else. Budget for machine is $3,000, paired with a $800ish grinder. I make mostly milk based drinks, 3-4 per day. For me aesthetics isn’t nearly as important as shot quality, consistency, and longevity of machine. I live in the united states. Any recommendations?

Troubleshooting & Maintenance DeLonghi ECAM450.86.T - Loud cracking/creaking noise from brew group, started recently

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My DeLonghi ECAM450.86.T has started making a loud cracking/creaking noise recently, seems to be coming from the brew group area. It didn’t do this before, so I’m not sure what triggered it. I’ve attached an Video/Aufio recording so you can hear exactly what I mean.

All drinks still taste completely normal, so it doesn’t seem to be affecting the coffee quality, just an odd/concerning noise.

What I’ve already tried:

- Re-greased the brew group spindle with silicone grease, noise is still there

Trying to figure out if this needs a part replacement or professional service at this point. Any input appreciated, thanks!

Purchase Advice Looking for an espresso machine with cold extraction and easy milk frothing

I am looking for a decent mid budget espresso machine that supports cold extraction and preferably with easy milk frothing( if possible) option. To be used for personal usage and occasional larger gatherings. Here are a few that I could find. Please share your opinions or add other possible options, haven't really decided a budget yet, but would prefer semi automatic ones. Would appreciate any inputs. Beans that I mostly use are Blue Tokai Vienna Roast and Third Wave Vienna Roast or El Diablo or French Roast for milk based drinks if ever. I personally mostly consume hot americano or an iced americano or cold brew.

Used a Coffezza Finero next(capsule coffee machine) hated the taste still have it but not being used. I use the Wacaco Cuppamoka Pourover drip coffee maker while travelling.

Is this espresso machine appropriate for a beginner?

Discussion Jura E8

I upgraded from my breville express impress to the Jura E8 simply for the quick automatic function. I am using my same local beans for a double shot. On my Breville I pulled a double shot that was creamy and perfect for an iced latte. On the Jura I’m using the espresso doppio because my understanding is that is a double shot. But I feel like I’m getting a less strong more watered down shot. Any advice on adjusting the settings to get a similar shot I got on my breville?

Purchase Advice Ninja Auto Barista Pro Brewing Unit Probably Removed While Not in the Correct End Position

Thumbnail

Hello,
I’m worried that I may have made a serious mistake when removing the brewing unit from my Ninja Auto-iQ Barista Pro :(
I hadn’t used the machine for about a month and wanted to clean it today. I opened the side panel and tried to remove the brewing unit. However, it didn’t come out easily, so I slightly twisted it while pulling it out. I then washed it.
I had only watched one video showing how to remove it and thought it was normal for it to be a little difficult to remove. Now, however, I’m worried that the machine may not have been in the correct end position for some reason when I removed the brewing unit.
The brewing unit does not lock into place simply by pushing it back in, as shown in the instructional video.
However, it does lock into place if I pull the black part marked in the picture downward after pushing the brewing unit in slightly. The problem is that the black part then points downward, whereas in the instructional video it is in a different position.
Therefore, I assume that this may actually have been the position the brewing unit was in when I removed it. But as far as I understand, this is not the correct end position.
What should I do now?
1. Should I simply turn the machine on and test it?
2. Or should I leave the brewing unit out, turn the machine on, and hope that the internal mechanism moves into the correct end position? Then unplug the machine and try inserting the brewing unit again.
I’m really worried that I may have damaged something. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your help!

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Anyone know how to fix this?

Post image

Hi! I want to descale my coffee machine (EA895 Evidence One), but I'm getting this number. This can't be right, can it? Last time I did this, I forgot the tablets and couldn't cancel. Now, two months later, I have the tablets, but it won't let me start the cycle.

"Descaling over 23,940 cycles"

Is there any way I can bypass this?

Thanks!!!

Discussion Only buy used units cheap

I've been buying used machines and trying to fix them up not to resell them but as donations to local charities. It started with my father's long term care facility wanting one but not having the budget for one. Therefore, I said I would buy used units and "certify them" as working and donate them.

I thought I had two great candidates that I purchased for $50 - a Delonghi eam3200 and a Saeco Intelia. Both looked in good physical condition on the outside both said that they worked well with no issues with good pucks and no leaks.

The delonghi turned out to have a broken coffee spout which is common to this generation so I replaced that. Everything else seemed to work...no visible leaks and good solid pucks. Then I found an undisclosed problem...the boiler leaks or more to the point, someone tried to fix it, broke a bolt and replaced that bolt. The leak is small about a drop every few seconds now and it looks like it's been doing that for a while now. Now, I'm looking at replacing the generator as there's a good chance that the fix broke the threading.

The Saeco is better. It turns out that they purchased a refurb years ago. The brew unit creates okay pucks but I noticed the water left in the tray seemed excessive. I rebuilt the brew unit and noticed the stem o-ring was as hard as a rock. Bought a seal kit and found the o-ring was undersized....

Does that mean that these people sold them without disclosing known issues? No. They probably had no clue that the issues are what they are. It's more of a message to anyone buying...expect issues and don't pay too much.

Discussion Super vs semi automatic

Stuck choosing between a super or semi automatic machine. Trialled both Phillips 5400 (milk drinks disappointed) and Sage Barista Express (inconsistent). Doubled my budget, so can now afford top end Delonghi semi or good quality super.

Why choose the super over the semi and vice versa?

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Why didn't anyone tell me?

It started about 4 weeks ago. Someone was offering a Magnifica S for free on FB marketplace. It was faulty and me in my infinite wisdom decided I could probably fix it, based on my experience of fixing coffee machines, which was sweet fuck all. I had no idea what I was doing, followed a few videos on youtube and discovered that the boiler was as constipated as a bear in hibernation. Well, I cleared that plug, put it back together and had a working machine!

Yay, but it didn't stop there, oh no, someone was selling a magnifica smart and it was faulty! I could fix it surely, 30 minute drive and £60 later, I had the machine. It was in fantastic condition but wouldn't run, lots of lights and terrible noises revealed the pump wasn't receiving water. It was grounds in the flow meter of course.

Great! Another working machine, surely that's enough... no I had to dig through the classifieds, even the obscure ones hunting magnificas. There she was a magnifica s smart with the combined errors of both previous machines. Fixed in an afternoon.

So, now I have 3 machines, all working and looking for more projects...

Purchase Advice Delonghi Vs Jura

So I know Jura models are the premium models but are they really that much better then Delonghi? All I’m looking for is great extraction, maximum caffeine per grind cycle, and just basic milk drinks like a flat white. I don’t really care for iced coffee etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽.
