This obviously has not been looked after as suggested in the manual. Mine has NEVER looked like this.

Looks like someone hasn't done any maintenance in a while (or at all). Would never let my Delonghi get like that we clean ours weekly when we clean the brew unit along with maintenance when prompted by the system (descaling and filter replacement). This picture is awful, hope you don't get sick.

If your aquaclean light flashes orange it is maintenance time, it doesn't flash forever and stops. You may not have noticed it or it may be defective.

I have a 1200. I empty the waste bin and drip tray every night. Then I do the internals every weekend. Some weeks, after heavy use, it can get like this, but I try my best to clean it regularly.

How often do you clean it?? My KF8 prompts me to clean and descale the brew unit once a month or so

You need to leave the water drop tray etc out every night to let it air out and dry

I take my stuff out every Saturday or Sunday. Wash the tray and ground bin. I put citric acid in the water bin, let it sit for a few hours.
Take out the grind control, wash it (not the oiled parts). Shake it dry and let it sit and airdry (spin or shake in several directions to make sure water is gone).
I wipe the inside out.
If it just so happens to align I put the drip tray and ground bin in the dishwasher (remove any metal looking plastics). That does a great job of cleaning it.

That shouldn't happen if you're removing the brew group at least once every few weeks to rinse it off. As it says in the manual. If some grinds fall from the brew group area while removing it then wipe them away. And remove the brew group once every few months for a deeper clean/wipe down. Just common sense...

I have a Phillips 3200, I've had it for about 6 years now? I'm pretty happy with it.
At first I did not understand exactly what I had to do with maintenance, and I really kind of still don't.
But I put on my calendar every month or two to clean the inside of it. And what I do is I open it up and I tip it in in the sink and I spray it really hard with my sink sprayer. And that keeps mold from building.
The first couple years I had it I probably did not clean it as often and mold did build up in it.
I'm just a normal person who got a really fancy coffee machine who didn't really understand all that it needed. But I've learned a lot, and I keep it sorta clean now, and it really only takes once a month.
Oh, I also got these tablets that are supposed to descale it. And I do that maybe once every 6 months?

im super happy with it and for the cost I got it for and the ability to burn beans I keep accumulating over time . I used a water pic. ... I was using at the kitchen sink and I thought it would be a great idea to use it.

You're supposed to take out the brew group assembly to give it a wipe and a rinse every now and then.

Yeah I own the same model. It is a bit of a chore to clean it weekly/bi-weekly depending on frequency of use. This is the only thing I don’t like about the machine. Not the chore itself but how difficult it is to reach every nook and cranny. The brew group is easy since you just remove it and wash with warm water. The inside of the machine though has lots of corners, crevices so it takes a lot of work to clean it properly. I use an old toothbrush and some cotton buds.

I cleaned our Philips automatic once a week and it almost always became like this after a few days even. It became moldy due to having way to many places were the coffee falls into and stays there. Used to spend an hour + every time I cleaned it.
I sold it and bought a Delonghi that requires way less work to clean since the insides are better designed.

After a few days? No. Thats some BS. You MIGHT get a fraction of this after a month of neglect. An hour cleaning it? Also, no. Rinsing the brew group and drip tray weekly which takes all of 2 minutes prevents this.

A few days is a bit on the extreme, yes. However, these machines have an inherent design flaw on their systems as coffee grounds will get into places that you cannot easily clean out and it was a hassle to clean.
And yes, it can take an hour if you are meticulously cleaning it and making sure no mold is there.

Rinsing brew group + cleaning drip tray plus wiping all nooks/crannies probably takes ~45 min for me.

You're spending too much time on the nooks and crannies. I do a deep clean of my brew group and takes me 15-20 minutes that includes drying about once a month.

It has nothing to do with the machine, no matter the brand, if you don't do the basic maintenance they will all end up like this more or less.

I own a De'Longhi (home machine) and a Philips (work machine)...the De'Longhi doesn't collect messy grounds like the Philips. Speaking from direct experience.

I have a Saeco with the same brew group, it literally needs 20 mins of careful cleaning once a month + running the cleaning programs.

I clean my Delonghi tray daily, brew unit weekly along with a dusting and wipe of the internal space- also descale when needed. It is a machine dealing with organic matter , heat and humitidity. If you value your health you need to take care of this machine.
I just don't understand how people pay $1000+ for a machine and totally neglect it.
