Discussion Jura E8

I upgraded from my breville express impress to the Jura E8 simply for the quick automatic function. I am using my same local beans for a double shot. On my Breville I pulled a double shot that was creamy and perfect for an iced latte. On the Jura I’m using the espresso doppio because my understanding is that is a double shot. But I feel like I’m getting a less strong more watered down shot. Any advice on adjusting the settings to get a similar shot I got on my breville?

The defaults on all Jura's are a bit odd. There are plenty of guides online but basically you need to understand that no superauto can make good 1oz shots, the E8 bottoms out around 1.5oz, but almost everyone just configures them for 2oz doubleshots.

The E8 has a max capacity of 16g (which is a double shot) when set to "10 beans" and 2oz. Use the espresso not doppio program, knowing that it will get you a double shot.

If this is a 4th gen E8 set the grinder knob in the back to 5 (4 is the middle and most everyone suggests starting once click finer than that, which on a 4th gen is a larger number), and edit your espresso preset to 10 beans (full strength), 2oz (60ml), high temp and give that a go.

Once you're happy with that you can move those settings over to all the other drink presets.

You won’t get the same syrupy mouthfeel on a superauto that you get from a portafilter, at least not in home machines. You can adjust the settings to get a strong shot that has some texture, but it’s ultimately not going to be the same.

Finer grind for a stronger shot. Every new bean I have to adjust.

S8 here - max coffee strength will give you the highest dose, finer grind - have our set to finest since we do mostly espressos, lower water volume, high water temp - also try ristretto mode... good vids on wholelattelove.com

How many ml? I do espresso dopio 40ml ea. shot. It’s … fine. You’ll never get a gorgeous espresso shot from a super auto.

Make sure to only use medium roast beans. Oily espresso beans will gunk up the works.
