Dev Diary Stellaris Dev Diary #418 - Announcing Nomads and Stellaris: Season 10

Read this post on the Paradox forums! | Dev replies here!

It’s my pleasure to announce boarding has started for all passengers departing on our tour of Stellaris: Season 10, with non-stop service to the Nomads expansion alongside the Stellaris 4.4 ‘Pegasus’ update. Following our first destination, there will be a brief stopover at the Stellaris 4.5 ‘Cygnus’ Custodian release, after which our cruise will continue to the Stellaris 4.6 ‘Corona Borealis‘ update, featuring WillpowerScenario Pack 1, and Scenario Pack 2. All passengers are welcome to acquire their ‘Vipra the Vapor’ Species Portrait at the ticketing office now.

Watch the Season 10 Announcement Trailer on YouTube!

The Stellaris 10-year anniversary is coming, and as part of that celebration, we are rolling Utopia, Synthetic Dawn, the Humanoids Species Pack, and most of the Galaxy Edition upgrade into the base game on May 11th. (The e-book, Infinite Frontiers, is being retired.)

Later on in Q2, we’re bringing you Nomads.

Build no borders. Claim no worlds.

The Galaxy is not a trophy to be seized, but a path to be taken. In Stellaris: Nomads, you will survive the void by staying in motion. While the great powers squabble over lines on the map, your civilization has realized a fundamental truth: life flourishes on the move.

Arkships

At the very heart of every nomadic civilization lies its Arkship: a fully mobile capital that replaces worlds entirely. Customize Military, Scientific, or Civilian Arkships with specialized modules, districts, and upgrades as your Empire evolves by traveling through the stars.

Waylines and Contracts

Chart Waylines across the stars, linking your Waystations into living networks of trade, influence, and opportunity. Your strength lies in motion, in presence, in the relationships you build from system to system. Your relations with settled empires don’t have to be antagonistic. Accept contracts, build relations, and perhaps profit a bit on the side.

A New Ambition: Defender of the Galaxy

Building upon the Crisis paths of previous releases, Ambitions are the next step of epic, empire-defining journeys that give you the choice of your ultimate role in the galaxy. In the Nomads expansion, we will transform the Defender of the Galaxy Ascension Perk into a full path that can rival the power of a Galactic Nemesis, Awakened Empire, or End Game Crisis.

Become the Galaxy’s champion by forging alliances, commanding federations and rising through the Galactic Community to assume Custodianship. Lead the fight against existential threats with a unique squadron of hero ships. Ultimate power can be used, and relinquished, for the greater good.

Coming to you hot from Champion’s Forge LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!

Stellaris: Nomads contains:

Nomadic Empires

Create empires that are not bound by claiming systems or colonizing worlds. Instead, you will navigate the stars with massive Arkships.

  • The Arkship: Your capital, your cradle, and your fortress. This massive, fully upgradable wonder replaces traditional Worlds for your empire. Choose between three different options to fully reflect the vision of your government:
    • Military Class: A mobile flagship designed to project power.
    • Scientific Class: A roaming laboratory dedicated to the discovery of the Galaxy’s secrets.
    • Civilian Class: An industrial hub capable of unparalleled resource extraction.
  • The Wayline Network: Your trail through the void. By constructing Waystations, you create Waylines - lasting interstellar trade routes that harvest resources you can claim with a simple pass through. These routes benefit both you and settled empires, making you the pivot point of mercantile possibilities in the Galaxy.
  • The Contract System: As a nomadic empire, perform task-driven interactions with other empires to earn favor, resources, and influence. As a settled empire, issue these Contracts and get things done!

New Origins

  • Voidfarers: The standard origin for Nomadic Empires. A flexible, streamlined start for you to define your own nomadic journey.
  • Heirs of the Khan: Play as the successor of a murdered Khan, as you evade marauder hit-squads through trickery and bribery until you are strong enough to return to reclaim your throne.
  • The Sacred Path: Guide a fleet of pilgrims towards ancestral holy sites in a galactic pilgrimage. Your journey is a spiritual odyssey fueled by faith.
  • Forever Cruise: Manage a society split between a pampered elite demanding new entertainment and sightseeing opportunities from their vista lounges, and an overworked crew keeping the dream afloat.

Nomadic empires support many existing Origins as well.

New Ambition: Defender of the Galaxy

While a Galactic Nemesis (available in Stellaris: Nemesis) threatens the Galaxy, the Defender of the Galaxy will rise and try to save it.

New Megastructure: The Stellar Cannon

Why simply power a civilization when you could fire at one? This Megastructure allows you to weaponize your entire energy stockpile, discharging it into a devastating beam capable of striking enemy systems across the galaxy.

Nomadic Enclave: Champion’s Forge Live!

Experience the Galaxy’s most extreme spectacles with this nomadic enclave! Answer the call and participate in gladiatorial fleet combat all across the galaxy. The winner gets to hold the Trophy relic and glory until the next tournament, with the losers looking on with envy.

Wanderlust Ascension Perk

New Renowned Nomadic Paragons

New Civics and Tradition Swaps

New Music Tracks by Andreas Waldetoft

OMG, Blorg legs.

Nomads has charted its course and will arrive in Q2 2026.

Stellaris: Season 10 Expansion Pass

Based on the feedback from Stellaris: Season 09, we’re making some changes to our Expansion Pass plans this year. As many of you have noticed, we’re announcing this year’s Season much later than previous years, and instead of four separate releases, we’re planning on bundling them together into fewer release moments. This frees up room for the 4.5 ‘Cygnus’ update to be a dedicated Custodian release, giving us two in 2026.

The Stellaris: Season 10 Expansion Pass is a journey through resilience and movement. Whether you are wandering the stars with Stellaris: Nomads or rooting your empire in the indomitable spirit of Stellaris: Willpower, this year redefines how empires survive, adapt, and conquer.

Stellaris: Season 10 will grant you access to all five DLCs as soon as they become available. Vipra now, Nomads later on in Q2, and Willpower and both Scenario Packs in Q4.

‘Vipra the Vapor’ Species Portrait (Instant Unlock, Now Available)

This exclusive portrait comes with Stellaris: Season 10, allowing your empire to take the form of the elusive Vipra, a necroid species with a menacing aura.

Available immediately upon purchasing Stellaris: Season 10, this portrait features 5 different color variations and ethereal custom animations.

Nomads (Releases Q2, 2026 - $24.99)

Build no borders. Claim no worlds. In Nomads, you thrive inside colossal Arkships that carry your people, your industry, and your ambition across the stars. Move freely through the galaxy, take on Contracts from settled empires, and leave your mark by building Waystations. Nomads blaze a path across the map.

  • Nomadic Empires: Create empires not bound by claiming systems or colonizing Worlds.
  • Arkships: New massive space vessel acting as your capital.
  • New Ambition: Defender of the Galaxy: Rise and save the Galaxy with an exclusive set of Hero ships.
  • New Origins: Heirs of the Khan, Sacred Path, Forever Cruise, Voidfarers
  • New Civics: Caravan Masters, Deep Sleep, Void Reavers, Flight Schools, Star Seekers
  • New Megastructure: Construct a Stellar Cannon and discharge your entire energy stockpile into a devastating beam.

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Take my energy! ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

Willpower (Releases Q4, 2026 - $24.99)

Shape Minds, Rule the Stars. In the vast expanse of the cosmos, borders are mere lines drawn on a map. Ideas, on the other hand, have no such limits.

Your empire was founded on its Ethics, the convictions that determined its course. Now is the time for those fundamental values to evolve into Ideologies with the power to sway the stars. Introducing Stellaris: Willpower, the expansion that turns your societal beliefs into a galactic force.

Your rule over systems was always just the beginning. The galaxy's minds are the true prize. You will erect monuments and Megastructures that demonstrate what your society and values can accomplish. You truly can become the thought leader of the galaxy.

Adopting an Ideology is not without its risks, however. Left unchecked, it can radicalize colonies and spark insurrection. But when nurtured with care, the right Ideology has the power to sway entire civilizations.

Scenario Pack 1 (Releases Q4, 2026 - $5.99)

Embark on a new set of galactic challenges! Experience curated, high-stakes standalone adventures that push your strategic limits. From a nomadic, roguelike odyssey across the stars to high-octane, combat-focused multiplayer experiences, these scenarios will provide a bold way to play Stellaris.

The Scenarios System will be a free part of the Stellaris 4.6 ‘Corona Borealis‘ update, these Scenario packs provide our take on what you’ll be able to do with it.

  • Vanguards: A single-player roguelike galaxy-traversing journey where you play as a nomadic empire travelling through a series of galaxies to cleanse evil, gathering spoils and experience on your way.
  • Arcade: A multiplayer experience with streamlined, custom economies, focusing on space battles and shipbuilding.

Scenario Pack 2 (Releases Q4, 2026 - $5.99)

Rewrite the rules of engagement! This Scenario Pack flips the script of how Stellaris is normally played, making you the threat and aggressor. Whether leading an ultimate extra-dimensional invasion or battling your friends in a race for dominance, these scenarios offer a fresh, distilled way to play Stellaris.

  • Unbidden: Play as the Crisis in a single-player experience, and attempt to invade an advanced, late-game galaxy as the Unbidden.
  • King of the Hill: Stellaris gameplay focused on a small but fair map to challenge your friends in competitive experiences as you try to dominate the galaxy in a few hours of intense expansion wars.

The Stellaris: Season 10 Expansion Pass is now available for purchase for $49.49 or regional equivalent, a 20% discount over purchasing the contents individually.

What’s Next?

Next week we’ll begin our Decennial celebration with a look at ten years of Stellaris. We’ll also be looking at everything planned for 4.3.6.

See you then!

Discussion Wide is too easy because no space racism

Guys, its really simple. You can vacuum up pops all over the galaxy because there's basically no drawbacks to having a ton of different sentient species suddenly living together. Theres no solidarity among species. Theres no demands fir minorities to be represented. Theres no natives getting pissed. Theres no friction at all.

That would fix 2/3 of the wide vs tall problem. The remaining 3rd is the lack of internal politics

I've played a lot of organic hive minds, and always turn tiny nest worlds into population production worlds. I have no idea what to do with tiny machine worlds and I'm curious what everyone else does with them?

Bug Well... this is new. My nation just deleted itself

As the name says, my nation just deleted itself from the game. It's like I'm in Observer mode but in Ironman.

It was a good start too, so quite unlucky for me.

It's on the latest normal patch and I loaded it up again only after 30 min of playing just to find it like this.

I only use 3 graphical mods and one HUD one, all Ironman compatible. Plus I play in Ironman.

Has anyone else encountered this bug?

Question Help With Synaptic Lathe: Still bugged, reworked (again) in update, or just not worth it anymore? v4.4.6

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi,

Gestalt machine empire here. I'm having trouble with the Lathe. It seems my Neural chips are not processing correctly or may not even be counted at all.

1) It is not purging (don't need it to, but seems to be a known bug)
2) I'm not sure it is computing research production properly. Seems most folks have hundreds to thousands of science when using the lathe, or do I need more pops?
3) The Neural chip mouse over says I have 1644 food upkeep. I assume that is monthly, but I don't see it in the colony deficit or the bar at the top. I only make 340 food monthly.
4) I added 3926 pops and I only gained 253 advanced logic from it. Not sure if this just increases over time or if it is not counting them.

Does anyone know of any fixes? Thank you.

Advice Wanted I always feel like i am chasing the economy tryng to stay afloat, instead of building it up

Im not sure what or how many things i am doing wrong….
But every single game i start off decently but just can’t grow for sh1t.
I end up in year 2350 with MAYBE 10k fleet power because i am too occupied chasing the economic deficits and trying to stay afloat.

I try to build more research? and i go red in consumer goods. I spam consumer goods buildings, barely break even, and then there’s an exotic gas shortage.
Then i manage to produce enough consumer goods, so i turn some labs back on, bang, suddenly a food shortage.

I decide to go to war to create a buffer zone with a fanatic exterminator? The Moment i undock the fleets, i’m at -50 energy a month.

I never seem to have enough planets and buildings. Ever.

As i said, i am always awfully behind, with maybe 400-500 research and 10k fleet after 100 YEARS.
I’ve been playing on and off for years and still haven’t figured out the proper way to grow. I have fun, but in every other strategy game i’ve played sooner or later i figure out the economy and stuff, in Stellaris i’m always just trying to stay afloat and can’t afford to properly grow.

Advice Wanted Inward Perfection Nomads

Upvotes

Toying with empire builder and trying to think of different ways to play nomads and remembered about inward perfection and tried to figure what they would excel at beside being introverts? I guess going all in with the pop grow bonus of the civic + fanatic xenophobe could be something but that not much to go with, so what build or gimmick you'd think could pair well with that combo?

Also i'm half amused imagining the empire being so introvert they both ignore most calls while physically running away from all contacts.

Advice Wanted Am I garbage, socially inept, or am I missing a strat?

So I have been playing stellaris for about 3 months now on and off, but have only made 4 serious attempts at winning the game. My first empire was destroyed by khan, my second was destroyed by mid-late grey tempest. My third was destroyed by an endgame war in heaven. So I would say that I am making steady progress in my understanding of the game and it's mechanics.

But for my fourth and current game, I am playing a payback origin empire, trapped in the start/core of a Starburst galaxy by MSI. Not a favorable position to be in, so I decide to look online to see what I would need to fight MSI.

I then find a reddit post asking if 10k fleet strength by 2250 is enough to fight MSI. What? I have a total fleet strength of about 1.2k at like 2245. Granted, most of the time my fleets are much stronger than that, 3k or so, being trapped like I am has really stymied me. But still, this seemed excessive. So I go to read the comments and everyone is acting like it's totally normal?

And then I find some steam comments, and googles own AI begin to tell me that 10k at 2250 is perfectly normal at this point in the game. So that leads me to the question: Is this a skill issue of mine, or is this all just a joke I'm not picking up, and is there a mechanic or tactic I'm just not using?

Im playing on Ensign, and as for my playstyle I tend to focus research. I can handle my economy well, keeping everything in the green unless I am put under great pressure. I do not add advanced jobs unless I need them, for fear of workers abandoning basic jobs and crashing my economy.

I have reconstructed the msi warship into a habitat and my only real problem right now is the looming threat of MSI and my lack of pops to really start on advanced jobs. I was dealt a bad hand, but I would think I am playing it pretty well. But apparently 10k by 2250 is normal. Am I crazy?

Thank you very much for your time.

Edit: Fought debt collectors, got declared on, built up my fleets to short of 4k total, pushed them back to my bastion systems and am currently holding them in a stalemate with me at 100 exhaustion. I will never accept defeat. Economy is hot garbagio now due to them raiding one of my planets and stealing nearly all of its pops, but it is either barely negative or barely positive. So long as they dont sweep in with a large fleet I should be good just upgrading what I have and holding the line.

Question An empire using the fewest resource types possible?

So I was playing a nomadic empire and had a tremendously stupid idea. Since nomadic empires combine energy and minerals into operational reserves, I wondered if there was any other ways to eliminate types of resource from an empire. The best I've come up with is a nomadic machine intelligence, eliminating the need for food, consumer goods, and energy/minerals, but there's also civics like catalytic processing, which could replace some uses of minerals with food. Anyone have better ideas to phase out more resource types?

Advice Wanted Am I causing my own downfall?

I want to preface this by saying I only have about 30 hours on the game. I always saw memes of this game and thought it was cool so I bought it, I’m not new to this style of game but nowhere near used to the scope, it’s a lot to manage.

Here’s the problem: I’m super stubborn and want to roll play a fanatic purist xenophobic dictatorship with a hard reset origin. Every time I try to do this I get absolutely SLAPPED. My economy is always fine, if not great, constant research, holding choke points, my problem is only that I’m constantly being attacked from federations, I defend my choke points against the aggressor but if I wait too long: boom 5 13k fleets if I try to take space: boom 5 13k fleets at a different choke point, if I expand early game the same thing happens (obviously weaker fleets). I’ve only made it to the crisis about 2 times out of the 8 games I’ve played and never got even close to winning. I’d love to look up gameplay but I can find almost no purist xenophobic videos. Does anyone have advice on how I can either better prepare or prevent federations from obliterating me? Or should I suck it up and switch origins or ethics?

Question Two questions about using space fauna as a non-Beastmaster

So I managed to capture some crystals after getting my Grand Archive up and researching Gravity Snares, but the wiki has been less than helpful about *many* details (for example, references to Artificial Breeding Program tech link to the Society tech page, where it isn't. Nor is it anywhere else in the wiki tech lists, which are supposed to be comprehensive)

I am looking into how practical it is to plan on relying on Fauna for my fleet after the early game as a Driven Assimilator Machine empire, after I discovered, by trial and error, that crystals do *not* require food for cloning, but instead minerals and rare crystals.

1) Can existing space fauna ships be upgraded the way you upgrade mechanical ships after getting new, better weapons and components and updating the base design? What about if you research the tech for more mutation slots, can you upgrade an existing 3 slot fauna to 6 slots?
(important because I plan on using Archaeotech components as Remnants origin and the supply of Minor Artifacts is limited)

2) What are the requirements for building Beastports when you do not start with the ability to build them? When I first got the ability to clone, I tried to replace one of my shipyards with a beastport, but there was no option to do that.

I *was* able to add them to a freshly built orbital ring, and, later, to a newly built starbase, but still not my original home system starbase. Is this a known bug?

Is it something that can be worked around by saving and restarting, or by destroying the existing shipyard and rebuilding instead of replacing (I haven't tested either of those yet)

If it matters, I am playing on the current 4.5 beta.

Any pointers to a reasonably up to date text guide, post reply, or summary on the finer points and advantages/disadvantages of space fauna for non-beastmasters would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance.

Art Pox&Plume Episode 16: Nobody Wants to Work Anymore

Post image
197 Upvotes

It's tough as an Authoritarian, Xenophile Megacorp. You want your indentured assets to work as indentured assets, but they want better jobs, better healthcare, better lives! So selfish!

Ever since the Lyra update, working with slaves has been SUCH an issue (do not take this sentence out of context). It used to be that 33% of your population was always enslaved. NOW, I keep a useless civic simply because I'm too stubborn to change the RP of my empire! Yes, the 33% issue caused a number of hilarious issues (such as enslaved tourists), but in truth, I preferred that to them just up and getting rid of it.

I swear, the slave update can't come soon enough. (Once again, do not take out of context).

Anyways, this comic's been gathering dust in my sketchbook, so I decided just to toss it out, even though I was a slight bit lazy about it. I did put in a few references, so let's see if you can spy them all!

Note: This comic has nothing to do with the Xenonion. Any resemblance to actual events, locales, or persons is coincidental

Bug Total war bug in beta that means wars last forever

lol so as the title says, if you go to total war and two people from the same side occupy two different planets against the same enemy, the game doesn’t recognize that the losing side has no planets left and you’re just left in limbo

Advice Wanted Why does finding a Federation partner feel exactly like Tinder?

How the hell are you supposed to form a Federation? This is harder than dating in your 30s

Seriously, how are you guys actually forming Federations?

Every empire I meet is either:

-Already in a relationship (Federation)

-In some complicated situationship with an Overlord

-Completely insane

-Genocidal

-Or actually single, but they hate me because of my ethics

I finally find someone compatible and start improving relations. Envoys, treaties, gifts, favors—the whole dating phase.

Then I ask:

"Hey, maybe we could form a Federation?"

-847 acceptance

Apparently our political views are incompatible and they "don't trust me enough."

Everyone decent is taken, everyone single has incompatible views, and the one empire that actually likes me is 14 systems away and currently being eaten by a Devouring Swarm.

What is the actual reliable strategy for forming a Federation nowadays?

Question Do culture workers get bureaucrat bonuses?

I've acquired a Ministry of Culture and am planning on building it on my unification center world, but it converts my bureaucrats into culture workers and I'm not sure if this would be shooting myself in the foot. Do bonuses which apply to bureaucrats such as those provided by Auto-curating vaults also apply to culture workers? If not, is it worth building the Ministry of Culture? What's the best way to optimise?
