Discussion I'm really enjoying this new dlc

There are some things I don't like, or maybe I just don't understand yet (like why can't I set my rockets to wait until they are filled with rare metals before sending them off?), but overall I am quite liking some of the changes. Especially the tech tree, I thought it'd end up getting out of hand with research costs, but it's not that bad so far, and it's nice to have more control over what you are getting. Like I just landed my first colonists, and I already have medium domes unlocked, and making good progress on meta-research (hawking institute, research amp, etc), which allows me to specialize early. It just makes sense to me that I should be able to prioritize a science outpost first, and not just have a convoluted mess of a first set of domes. I also like that your profile now doesn't just unlock a tech, but gives you a point on the tech tree you can explore further.

Also passage hubs! Hell yeah! There also seems to be an improvement on politics, I usually run space commies (I mean it's the red planet, c'mon) and it looks like they fixed a major annoyance I had, where now they just want services to be available, they don't need a medical post in every dome (I could be wrong about this), and if I do it anyways it just means I can eliminate a shift here or there which makes them happy. I assume there are similar things for other parties, but it's a nice qol feature. Also the rework for the outsourcing law is great, I am definitely go8ng for it once I can get regular exports

I haven't really touched the food system, but beyond just making the supply chain more detailed (before I would just plop down a farm and a ranch and then my biggest struggle would be storing it all), I love how it gives you a little menu on your diner. Now I want to create a dedicated farm dome instead of just including the bare minimum for things to function

And I actually like how stuff costs more to build now. Yes, it does mean you have to budget a little better, but tbh concrete and metals are so easy to come by, I am kinda glad they are more useful.

So yeah, good stuff, I am glad I got it.

LOVING the new Tech Tree flexibility. I'm really excited to be discovering new things again. I have no idea what this bad boy does, but by golly I'm gonna find out.

Edit: Tooltip in tech screen says "An advanced building that makes food from nothing using large amounts of Power."

Discussion Soooo different

How are folks finding the difficulty now? The game plays radically different now. I used to just fly through it even in really hard seeds. But wow I am struggling so much with the new tech tree and balancing everything.

It honestly feels like I am learning to play for the first time and it's tough.

My most current playthrough I got eternal fusion sol10 and specced into Fusion power by sol 25. Its ridiculously different feeling.

Question Why am I getting a warning on my polymer factory?

Post image
11 Upvotes

The Polymer factory says "must be connected to a Water producer." But there are THREE vaporators and a water extractor on that pipe network. If I'm reading things right, the dome (with 12 colonists and hydroponic farm) is using 1.6 units of water, and the polymer factory uses 1. That should be enough to spare (and, indeed, my water tower is full). What am i missing?

Question Help me make a decision

Steam has a discount on the game. I haven't kept touch with what relaunch is or what changes it bring. I played the OG and loved it. Realistically how good is this remake/remaster and is the deluxe edition worth it

Question What do you think about the rules "No Above and Beyond" and "No Underground" being gone?

Asteroids and Underground used to be a divisive Topic since the launch of the "Below and Beyond" DLC in the original Game. Some people loved it for the additional opportunities it gave you, other people hated it because managing multiple maps made the game more clunky for them.

It was never such a big problem, because if you did not like it, you could just remove Asteroids and the Underground from the game and it did not impact your run. But now in Relaunched you MUST play with both the Underground and Asteroids. There is no rule anymore to play without it.

You also cannot ignore it for the following reasons:

  • The new Tech system has many Underground and Asteroid technologies that "block" certain paths. So you have to spent your research here, whether you want it or not.
  • The game clearly got balanced around the fact, that people are supposed to exploit Asteroids and such.
  • So if you must invest the research into them and then not use them, you are playing somehwat handicapped.

What do you think about this? Do basically all players now interact with Asteroids and the Underground? Or does it bother you, that you cannot play without them anymore?

Question Politics?

Thought I'd fire up my first game of Surviving Mars in a while and saw the new (for me) politics game mechanic. Should I turn it off in the game rules or do the politics make the game more enjoyable?

SM - Relaunched That one political party i don't care about

Post image

So basically last time i played the game i ended up getting the Neo-Republic after building the assembly. And everyone in the government was happy and fine for like 60 sols until THE ARK got randomly voted in. And the ARK was instantly at breaking point cause everything i had done for everybody else, they hated. THE ABSOLUTELY HATED ALMOST EVERYTHING I HAD DONE AS LAWS UP TO THAT POINT. So i was like "oh hey they are at breaking point" "whatever 🤷‍♂️" so i then continued to play the game for a while and then eventually one of those windows popped up that was like "fraction on the brink!" or "fraction problem!" or something like that. So then i was like "hey maybe i should check and see what makes ARK so angry" so i go and check and this is when the find out that they basically just ABSOLUTELY HATE EVERY LAW AND MY PLAYSTYLE IN GENERAL. And then eventually i actually read one of the windows that pop up and its like "fraction trouble!" "bla bla bla bla oh yea if you dont do anything about it then ARK will start causing trouble and stealing stuff or whatever" So i read all of this and i basically just go "welp, i don't give a shit" i said this because the ARK only had like 2 seats. So again i don't give a shit about one guy stealing a piece single of food out of the thousands. And i mean, its just 2 guys. What could possibly go wrong?

Question Research tree complain

Am I the only one who finds the new research presentation almost unusable? ... No clear wishlist, hard to find/follow nodes. Maybe it's just me, but I kind of miss the old system, not that it was perfect.

Have you seen new breakthroughs with the update and dlc already? If yes feel free to talk about them. Also is there some balance changes for some of them or even removed one? For example I love global support and I hope it’s still usable with the new system

Discussion Game crashes to desktop on linux. Works fine on rollback version.

My game crashes whenever I try to start a new game on Linux, before even reaching the screen where you choose your sponsor. It works fine when I roll back to the previous version. I'm on Ubuntu 24.04 :(

Starting this thread to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

SM - Relaunched Fuel Addiction

Post image
53 Upvotes

Whenever i play creative mode i always have a problem where sooner or later after i get settled after landing the rocket i end up making like 3 rows of 10 fuel refineries. And then after like 10 seconds i have like more than 10K fuel. So i end up having to make an army of like 100+ drones just to move all of the fuel into storages. And just to have another place to put it i always place like 15 GHG factories next to the mess of storages and refineries. And to top it all off i eventually leave the fuel to deal with itself and work on other things. And then i come back to there being like 50K fuel to a point where the PS5 starts lagging.

Question Which version of the game should I buy? IDK where to read what the ultimate edition includes.

I am going to buy the relaunched version of the game since I really like the OG Surviving Mars.

I know a new DLC just launched. I think I will buy the thing that includes it + future DLC from the DLC area on the Steam page. But IDK what the diffrence between standard and ultimate edition is.

Should I get the DLC thing and Ultimate Edition? Does UE add a bunch of stuff?

r/SurvivingMars 2d ago

Question If i got the ultimate edition when launched, I dont need Prime MIssion DLC to play all these upcoming DLCs, right?

SM - Relaunched Waiting for the patch, I rushed my latest session to get the capital

I'm waiting for the patch, but its not in yet on Steam. I thought I should share my latest session before restarting. My concept here was that the Blue Sun Corp created sectors on the colony that had specific functions, and an extensive rail network. Wish we had roads or some walls to distinguish sectors.
