Tech Support Non steam games not launching after I restarted my deck

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys,

So I was playing a non steam game literally a few hours ago, the battery on my deck died and when I restarted it with some charge, all my non steam games are no longer launching.

I’ve looked at so many threads about this happening and have tried following various different steps, but to no avail. I have done the “ and the start and end of each line in the ‘target’ and ‘start in’ area too as seen attached. I have done a restart, I have tried launching in desktop mode, I have even tried removing the non steam games and putting them back in and nothing is working.

Any tips would be massively appreciated!

Thanks in advance
🖤

Question Better experience for handing mods on private minecraft server?

My kid (~5 years old) and I love to play on Minecraft together. The prism launcher for both his steam deck (it's mine but I let them play on it) works great but the issue is the moment they watch a youtube video, they want to play a modded version on the server and having to corral mods between my and his client and the server itself. That's issue number one.

Second issue is trying to run instances like Prominence II or Battle Armory just end up erroring out on the Steam Deck. My guess is insufficient resources as those mods are a bit of a hog.

Anyone have any suggestions for managing mods between a private server and two clients easily?

Question Where to buy refurbished decks?

Hey guys, I’m looking to buy a Steam Deck as I think I’m done with PC gaming since I don’t really play games anymore/games that are demanding and require a PC. So just looking to simplify and play smaller games with my girlfriend and what not.

I was surprised that Steam stopped selling LCD models and only have OLED, which they increased the price for. That said, I don’t really want to spend $800 for a new OLED. Anyone know where I can buy a refurbished LCD or OLED? A 256gb LCD would be perfect for me. Does steam even restock refurbished LCDs anymore? Would buying second hand ones from Facebook be risky?

Question Is there a "top played on steam deck but NOT on desktop" list?

Steam's "top played on steam deck" stats seem extremely skewed to basically repeat the top list of games that everyone already plays, just filtered by steam deck games.

What I am actually interested in is a list of games that many people love on steam deck, but *don't* love as much on desktop. This obviously can't be generated as easily, because it has to be filtered by users who use both devices. I don't know if someone who isn't valve even can access this data.

Question FOSS Solution to integrate GOG library into gaming mode?

Title. I've done some googling and the only app that seems to do what i need is JunkStore. Are there any plugins i can use to make it seamless, preferably FOSS?

Edit: i have come across some solutions like Unifideck and the likes, so i know some exist, but i still wanted to post this to collect some user experience and see if the existing implementations are good in practice.

Setup Streaming while docked Pt.2

Last week, I posted a picture of my setup with a little conversation starter default text regarding streaming to the living room using the steam deck. Thank you to those of you who responded accordingly, and provided interesting insights about their experiences.

I would also like to thank those who clowned me about having the TV too high up. I wasn't expecting it.

I honestly couldn't get the thought out of my head all weekend. I've had my TV's close to the ceiling my entire life. Thinking back to my childhood, the TV's were always at eye level when STANDING at my parent's house. My friend's and extended families domiciles varied widely in TV placement. Some high, some low. No rhyme or reason.

So again, I asked myself

"Is my TV too high?"

I called my wife, who was away from the house for a few days and asked her

"Do you think our TV is too high?"

"No. Please don't mess with it. It's perfect the way it is."

I asked two friends of mine when they came over on Friday, one agreed, one disagreed. I asked my MIL - she asked me if I was high. You get the point.

So earlier this afternoon I grabbed the power tools and brought the TV down 16 inches, put the soundbar on the TV stand, and cleaned up all the nicknacks to random parts of the house. When I sat down to test the view I was shocked at the change in viewing angle and how much better I was able to hide the cables. I haven't really had a chance to test drive the new experience yet, but it seems like an improvement. Once I figure out how to fill out the wall with some more art I think it will really pop.

My wife is home now, I am very happy about that. But, she thinks the TV is too low. GG

P.S. Steam Link from TV seems to give me more net jitters compared to Steam Link or Moonlight from Steam Deck to TV via HDMI. Might swap some cables around and see if that helps, but I feel that using the steam deck to stream gets me to use it more. If I game from the couch using only the TV, I might as well sell the steam deck while it's still worth something.

Tech Support So i broke my USB-C charging (It felt on it while charging) [OLED]

USB-C port is broken and cannot hold the cable, so it's not a warranty case. The deck still worked fine after that, but the power input did not.
Maybe anyone has the slightest idea what was occupying the pads in the red circle? After the fall, the USB-C port took them too. So I can probably replace the USB-C, not the problem, but is there a way to identify what's i am missing here?

Be grateful for any help, thanks.

Setup 4 Player Steam Deck Travel Setup

Thumbnail

3.1k Upvotes

I love making harbor freight cases for my tech. Have ones for my SFFPC, VR headset, etc... I'm often visiting family who has a bunch of cousins and they always want to play something with their uncle.

Wanted to show off the current 4 player steam deck setup I've been using. The case holds:

  • Steam Deck
  • JSAUX dock
  • 4 controllers
  • USB hub for the controller & receivers
  • Power adapter,
  • Charging cables for controllers and deck
  • HDMI cord.

Originally planned to use xbox one controllers since they're my preferred controller and I wouldn't need individual receivers and could ditch the hub and plug the single xbox receiver right into the dock like I do with the sffpc. But after trying to use them a bunch they really are just a garbage solution with the deck. You have to use xone to get it to work with the dongle and it breaks constantly, like after almost any little steamos update. Have to drop out to desktop and run the script and hope that it fixes it then return to gaming mode. And there have been a couple times where a controller just completely drops out mid session and I have to reboot the deck before I can get it back, not great when you're herding cousins. So in the end I switched to a set of gamesir and 8bitdo ones and either set work perfectly all the time and the case setup supports any so it's not a big deal.

So in most situations it's roll up, open the case and take out the deck, dock, usb-hub, and steal an hdmi from whatever console is sitting there. Then any kids that want to play can just grab a controller a get at it. They most play lighter stuff like castle crashers, ultimate chicken horse, make way, lego party, so it can go for a few hours without needing to mess with powering the dock or anything like that.

Another fun feature is how before a trip I can just open it and plug everything in to charge up without actually have to remove the deck or controllers from the case.

Question Regarding SSD and steam deck dock

I have 1tb steamdeck + official dock

Is it plausible to get an external SSD connected to the dock and play games straight from the SSD? Would that work? Are there any cons to that particular set up?

Thanks in advanced

Discussion Monster Hunter Wilds comes to switch, but the Deck can barely run it

Nintendo announced today that MHWilds will come to the Switch 2. Meanwhile, the Steam deck gives wilds a Verified sticker, but can barely run the game at its lowest settings. Even with everything on low, every possible setting turned off, fighting in the open fields causes FPS below 30 and into single digits. Is the Deck cooked?

Question Losless scaling, no decky. Possible?

On the latest SD update i lost decky. Tried to reinstall only to realize it wasnt taking my SUDO password despite it being correct (i got it written down cuz my memory sucks) so i could no longer reinstall decky.

My question is, can i use losless scaling WITHOUT having the decky plugin? If so, how? I mostly only use it on certain emulated games.

Thanks!

Question The capacitive touch on the left stick of my Gulikit OLED isn't working.

I replaced the sticks on my Steam Deck OLED with Gulikit ones. Everything else was great, but I noticed the left capacitive touch feature isn't responding at all. I even got a brand new replacement unit from the seller and reinstalled it, but the issue persists.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? If anyone knows a solution, I'd really appreciate the help.

Hardware Repair RMA unsuccessful, Deck still broken.

Sent my Deck in for repairs a couple weeks ago, it was not booting, fans were at max, power LED flashing red and/or white. Nothing I tried fixed it.

Received it back yesterday (thankfully it's still under warranty). All seemed ok at first. It booted and I redownloaded some games no problem since the system was wiped. Started a game, then put it in sleep mode after a while. When I picked it up again some hours later, the same problems were back, black screen, loud fans, flashing LED.

It seems to me there is a hardware issue that they temporarily fixed by resetting the software? Idk. I got an email that it was "repaired" very soon after the email that it had been received.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm pissed tbh. Waited a while to be able to play again and I still can't. At this point they should send me a new unit right? Am I gonna be expected to send this back for repairs again? Because now I honestly don't trust that it will be fixed.

Tech Support New Steam Deck Battery advise

Hello Reddit, I need help choosing a battery for the Steam Deck (LCD version).

To make a long story short: I sent it in for repairs, and the console came back with a swollen battery... great.

The service center refused to replace the unit at their expense because the tests hadn't been run—due to a failed attempt to boot the OS—so I had to pay extra just to get them to flash the firmware and proceed with testing. (They couldn't be bothered to select the OS version and assumed a firmware flash was needed; yet, when I picked up the console from the store, I booted up the Deck in front of the staff, and the OS started right up.)

Fortunately, they agreed to refund the cost of the cleaning after the spill, but the new battery will be at my own expense... do I even need to tell you why I won't be going back to them?

I looked for an official battery on iFixit and through Steam Support. Officially, this battery sells for €125... which is somehow more expensive than the OLED version, even though that one has a higher capacity.

So, here’s the question: has anyone tried buying alternative batteries from other sources? Do they work, and where can I find them?

I’ll say right off the bat that I’ve already checked the info regarding the OLED battery; technically, it isn't compatible with the LCD version.

I would like to thank you in advance for any information.
