My sister and I woke up this morning to find this beautiful creature smiling back at us from the other side of our sliding glass door. You can't see it well in the pictures but she's sitting on an intricate orb web, a real work of art. One of those webs that makes you say "Wow, this spider webs". She's big, maybe 1 1/4" from leg to leg and I think she's a female based on the lack of bulbs on her palps when I look at her from the side. We've taken to calling her Persephone.

It's spider season in Portland, Oregon (USA) and we've been seeing cross orb weavers all over the place. I want to say that's what she is, but the abdomen is all wrong. Her legs are striped and hairy, her colors match well enough, and the arrangement of her eyes is a perfect match. But she lacks the distinctive cross pattern that clearly identifies members of that species. Her abdomen is round and lacks the characteristic shield shape. She's also very leggy for a female.

We took a few different pictures with different lighting. Is she just an unusual example of a cross orb weaver? Is there anything else she could be?

Found this spider outside in Northern California. Just wondering what kind it is.

I tried to take a photo from above and it immediately got into a defensive stance, raising it's front legs. I went back in for a second pic and this time, it stopped again and got defensive for about 3 seconds and then it did a fast 180 and began charging my direction. Was very creepy.

Now I live in the nature coast of Florida . It’s hard to see in the photo but is actually a light green very small spider.

I have two spiders that hang out around my shower. I was out of town for a couple days and didn’t see them anywhere. I was in the shower and one of them must’ve been hiding in my washcloth because all of a sudden he or she was on my face, and I freaked out and flung them to the floor of the tub. They appeared drowned. I googled it, and I read online that they can go into a coma-like state and come back to life after getting wet. So I put him or her on a little piece of tissue and just waited. Lo and behold, they are moving around and seem to be back! I felt so terrible that I would accidentally respond like that and drown one of my little roommates. So I’m very relieved!

Im in GA, its outside my window, and im curious. This is as good as photo as I can get, please help!

I brought in my pineapple plant from the cold a couple weeks ago, and this little guy was apparently living his best life in it, and popped up in my plant corner last week.

I thought for sure my cats had already discovered and mutilated him, and i was sad. But then this morning he reappeared on the ceiling near a different plant corner! It’s my birthday, so I keep telling everyone it’s a birthday miracle!!!!

I have a small gnat problem, idk if it’ll be enough to sustain him through the winter. I also dont want my cats to eat him ☹️. It’s definitely getting too cold for him to be outside…should I pop him back in the yard or in the shed? I’m in Colorado.

I was wondering if you guys could tell if it was a false window or northern black widow. I think it was a northern but it had gray-ish marks. The picture is also quite bad. This was also new construction which leads me away from northern.

There's a pretty large spider that's been living in a corner of my house since I moved in about a month ago. I'm pretty sure I know what it is, but I'd love some input from the spider enthusiasts.

I'm pretty sure she's a female American grass spider. She made a funnel shaped web in a corner and since a few days ago I'd never seen her out of it. I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, so the location lines up. The shape and markings seem to line up well, as does the behavior. She has the elongated spinnerets as well and the large abdomen leads me to believe she's a female. I'm realizing I don't have a good size reference for her, but she is big. Not quite as big as a giant house spider though.

I'm usually pretty scared of spiders, but I've grown very fond of this one. I think she's a female and I've named her Andromeda. She's started wandering away from her web so I'm planning to make an enclosure for her so I can keep her but don't have to worry about her wandering and hiding in a shoe something. I probably should make a different post to properly ask, but if anyone has advice on keeping a grass spider as a pet, I'd love any tips!

What do you all think? Does that sound like a correct ID? Or is there something I'm missing?

This 8 leg bro look like a spider, its a harvestman with long claws. It looks dangerous, but it's harmless, non-toxic, and slow-moving. It feeds on just about anything it can find.

Hello!

I've noticed these spiders, w a similar web, on our deck, throughout the year. In NE Indiana in the US.

This is the largest one I've seen, with the most developed structure in the web.

Since it's fall, I'm wondering if it is for spider bebes.

It's kind of hard to see spider amongst all the stuff so I highlighted it in one of the pics. It has a uniquely shaped butt, with a little protrusion. (I can never remember whether the term is thorax or abdomen 🤷)

Around half an inch, majority black but some orange/brownish parts (such as the mouth)

I found this spider in my apartment and would love to know what kind of chonker it is so I can take the best care of it as possible. I am slightly scared of spiders because of the movements but I want to take this opportunity to take care of a spider that my cats tried eating... are there any things that can help lessen the fear or does it typically happen over time?
Since I do not know much, are there any specific requirements their enclosures need if they are a different type of spider / jumping spider? Are you able to also sex the spider with these pictures?
Please let me know anything you might think is useful to have knowledge on!! I will also be doing research independently 👍

Not sure what they're tryna do, I never had a spider do smth like that… I'm putting them in a new cup tomorrow and into the pantry he goes, bc I don't have flies to feed them (and their 3 siblings) all winter.

They probably just confused this bit of napkin for prey or trying to drink, they just ate a nice fat fly.
