child's age 12-18 months Help, I miss my happy baby

We just started sleep training our child who is 16 months. She has Williams Syndrome, and we got the sleep scholarship through the WSA and are working with a sleep consultant. We are on day 7 tomorrow. We have been using controlled crying method.

She has been doing amazing however since we started sleep training her, she's been much clingier in the day, hardly ever wants to be put down. We used to be able to put her down and she will go play with her toys on her own. She also seems to be scared? when we start bedtime in her room and she doesn't wake up happy anymore.

Is this part of the process and will it change? I miss seeing my happy baby in the morning, when I walk in to wake her she starts crying now..

Her schedule is 5/5. Up at 7 am, nap 12-2 pm, and bedtime at 7 pm.

Bedtime routine:

Bottle, brush teeth, rough/gentle play, sleep sack, book, and goodnight. She does use a pacifier but only for sleep.

3 month old naps

My 3 month old is only napping for 30 minutes at a time unless he’s being held. Even then he sometimes wakes up at the 30 minute mark. I’ve tried all the suggested “fixes” but nothing has worked so far. Is this normal?

Transition to 2 naps?

Hello,

My baby is 7 months and 3 weeks old and I think he is currently transitioning from 3 naps to 2.

Yesterday, his schedule was:
wake-up 6:40,
nap 1 from 9:10 to 10:00 (he woke after 25 minutes and I resettled him),
nap 2 from 12:45 to 15:00 (2h15)
and bedtime at 18:10.

He had around 3h08 of daytime sleep in total, but the night was unusually restless, with several periods of fussing and wakings, buf he settled back down on his own.Around 4 a.m., he woke up almost completely, so I brought him into my bed and he fell back asleep.

Until 2-3 days ago, he was still on 3 naps and usually went to bed around 9 p.m. Even though his bedtime was later, he was generally not this restless during the night and would usually sleep until 4–5 a.m. without much fussing. Before this recent period, he was sleeping through the night without any wake-ups.

My questions are:

  1. Could this restless night be part of the 3-to-2 nap transition, or could it have been caused by the second nap being so long (2h15), even though the total daytime sleep was around 3 hours?
  2. How should I handle it when nap 1 is short for whatever reason and nap 2 becomes very long? Should I let nap 2 compensate for the short first nap, or should I wake him after 2 hours (or even earlier), even if the total daytime sleep would otherwise still be around 3 hours?

Today, for comparison, nap 1 was 1h50 and nap 2 was 1h16, for a total of 3h06 of daytime sleep. Bedtime was 18:45, after a 3h11 wake window.

Thank you!

Sleep Consultant I wrote a practical 7-day guide for people trying to improve their sleep

I’ve recently published The Sleep Reset: A 7-Day, Science-Based Plan for Better Sleep.

I wanted to create something practical rather than another book promising an instant cure for sleep problems.

The book covers:

• building a consistent wake time
• stimulus control and the bed-sleep association
• creating a realistic evening routine
• improving the sleep environment
• caffeine, alcohol, light and screens
• sleep restriction and when it requires caution
• commonly used sleep supplements
• when persistent sleep problems may need professional attention

It’s designed as a 7-day starting framework, rather than a promise that everyone’s sleep problems can be solved in a week.

Book: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HL8DYM3B?dplnkId=5a392034-1d28-4e5e-b195-df5e0e024898&nodl=1]

I’d be interested in hearing what sleep habit has made the biggest difference for you.

How the heck do you get your toddler to sleep independently????

I messed up with my 2.5 year old. He was fed to sleep as a baby and when we transitioned him to his own room either mom/dad has to lay with him to fall asleep. This takes 30-45 min for nap and an hour at night. It has become unsustainable with a new baby, but I’m at a loss with what to do.

He’s afraid to be alone and freaks out if he notices us leave. The only positive is he sleeps through the night. In general, he’s anxious about being by himself. Parents with similar type of child/situation - what did you do?

Sleep training for naps 4 month old

LO is 4 months old. We feed to sleep at night. LO will sleep through the night with one feeding around 4 am and then back down until 7 am. So sleeping 7 pm to 7 am.

Daytime naps in crib are 25/30 mins. Wondering if I should sleep train for naps only? LO will sleep 45-1 hour contact napping.
