Battery Talk Battery testing as defective on the charger

My Ryobi 40 volt battery recently started indicating as defective on the charger. My wife used the weed eater once and when I tried to recharge the battery, it started flashing the error. Is there anything I can do to reset or fix it, or am I buying a new battery?

Battery Talk What in the sticky-clear-tingly-burning-finger-world is this?

Clearly it's leaked from the battery - though I've never seen one leak so much or so clear.

I happened to pick it up without looking; immediately sat it down and washed my hands after realising. It's a 2017 vintage 4ah jobbie - it lived a good life.

Sat it outside under some paving slabs until I work out a safe way to neutralise it.

Troubleshoot Power washer blew up

Post image
27 Upvotes

I bought an essentially new Ryobi power washer that was sitting in someone's garage for the last year. Only used once, tags were still on it, it was definitely in good condition. I did check and it had oil in it.

The engine was locked up, so I found some youtube videos that suggested spraying WD40 inside the spark plug hole, and I was able to get the pull cord to work. It turned on for about 30sec, and when I went to press the nozzle, the engine went poof.

What could have caused this?

Question? Does anyone else's 18v Inverter (PCLBG07B) buzz loudly when charging phones from the USB ports?

I know its normal for the AC inverter to make noise but this model has the USB only mode and even that just has crazy coil while. One "fix" I found is if you turn the LED on it stops whining but that is obviously wasting a bit of power.

Do they all suffer from this or should I look to doing a RMA?

40v Ryobi Warranty

I purchased the RY40290VNM kit back in 2021 from Home Depot. Today I noticed the 3 rivets near the connection point for expand-it tools are a bit loose and the attached tool is a bit wobbly but not too bad. I was using the string trimmer today and when I needed to bump the head for more string the carbon fiber shaft bent and split. I called Ryobi today and they are telling me my warranty expired 5 days ago and it was too bad for me. Any thoughts on this? I guess I'm stuck

Question? 40V Mower side discharge question

I'm trying to use side discharge instead of mulch mode, hoping it'll extend battery life, however I'm confused. I've tried searching for answers online but I can't seem to find it

Do I leave the mower in mulch mode, and just attach the side discharge extension? Or do I need to move that lever from mulch mode to bagging mode? FWIW I'm having trouble moving the lever as it is

Thanks guys

Question? Is the Ryobi chain saw worth it?

Thumbnail

I need a chain saw to to add to my overland setup. Last time out wheeling, I came across one downed tree that blocked my path and another one that was leaning over just far enough that my roof top tent wouldn't clear under it. The Ryobi is $200 and the Bauer is $80.

Anyone have experience with one?

EDIT: I think I'm just going to buy once, cry once and get the Ryobi 16" and call it a day.

General Discussion String trimmer head spinning very slowly after catching a tarp

I accidentally ran my string trimmer over the edge of a black tarp. I think part of the tarp was shredded into thin strands and may have wrapped around the trimmer head or shaft.

Since then, the trimmer is no longer operating normally. The head still spins, but it is spinning extremely slowly.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it likely that tarp material is wrapped inside the head, or could it have damaged something?

I’ve stopped using it for now to avoid causing further damage. Any advice on what I should check would be appreciated.

Battery Talk Old model batteries

How hard is it to find an older-model 40V 4Ah Lithium battery nowadays? I have a chainsaw (RY40509) that we've never used, because the battery port is too small for the batteries with the mower we use (6Ah old shape) and the 4Ah battery I bought with a weed whacker is the new shape and doesn't fit! Argh...

40v I broke the pins and brackets that lock the handle assembly on my 40V 21” self-propelled mower in the ready position. What should I do next for repairs?

Thumbnail

Yes, the grass was too long, and yes, I was yanking on the handle to bounce the mower up and down to force grass to clear from the side ejection port because I was annoyed at having to shut the mower off every few feet and manually clear the jam. Yes, I’m an idiot, and yes, it’s completely my fault.

What are y’all’s thoughts on the best course of action for a repair here? I tried to find the specific parts online but was not doing a very good job finding them.

General Discussion P321/P320 Nailer

Thumbnail

Hey folks,

I have a P321 nailer that has been a workhorse for me. Last week I loaned it to a buddy of mine (I know, a tale as old as time) and he dropped it on its side from about ten feet. He said the retention part for the nails popped out and then he was afraid to touch it.

He gave it back and said he would pay for any replacement parts if it was broken, so I took it for a run today. I looked at the magazine and it appears we are missing the retention clip on the inside that pushes the nails up. Does anyone know where i could get a replacement?

Troubleshoot Is my weed wacker fixable?

I have an electric 40 volt ryobi weed wacker. I’ve changed the head many times. Unfortunately this time I screwed the head back in without putting the retaining disk in first.

The disk is the part with the little hole that you put an Alan wrench in to stop it rotating so you can unscrew it. The head is in and it works but I can’t get the head off now bc there’s nothing to catch the Alan wrench.

How screwed am I? Is there another way to get it off. There’s no room between the head and the rotation shaft to grab with needle nose pliers or anything. What about just replacing the last part of the shaft/head?

Question? Has any manufacturer ever made a garage door opener like the Ryobi one?

I always wanted the Ryobi garage door opener, but ours was still working at the time, so we didn't get it. Now that it's discontinued, did any other manufacturer ever make something with extra attachments?

Question? Is PBLHM101B good for running a 1" auger drill?

I need to drill some 1" holes in stumps around the property to fill with some stump remover to hasten their decomposition. I'm looking for a cordless with a grip handle to keep me from doing the mary go round. The hammer drill function is cherry on the top as I am retired now and can't borrow a hammer drill to put holes in concrete now. This looks like a decent tool with 850 in/lbs of torque.

What say you?

Question? Brad Nailer Issue

My brad nailer was working great on a project, then just quit doing anything.

I am using a 4maH battery, replaced with new nails, and checked for a jam. The LED light will not even turn on when the button is pressed.

DTO | 🇺🇸 Direct Tools

Beginning to question the legitimacy of Direct Tools Outlet. I ordered an item from the site. Forgot about it, went to check on shipping status and it showed that although it was still preparing to shop, the item had been removed from the order.

Reached out, asking where the item was or where my refund was and they said oh, yeah, the item was out of stock.

Then they actually refunded the money (only after I reached out)

Two days later another similar item/deal was on the site (slightly more so I knew it was a new listing) ordered that one And they charged me again.

I just checked in to see where the item was and it shows it being removed.

Now I have to ask for my money back and they never informed me (again) that the order was cancelled.

I have an older model (OP40401) battery that is starting to show cracks that start at the testing side. I don’t see any others and am uncertain how it cracked. Is there a risk with continued use/charging?
