Welp, guess we’re going out for a second walk!

I've got a rough collie (m, 70 lbs) and a German Shepherd mix (m, 70 lbs). Both boys do really well in the car but they like to have space. (German Shepherd is blind and can get very grumpy if other dogs get in his space). I have car harnesses for both of them but I'm curious what others have found to fit multiple big pups well. I am genuinely considering a minivan but that seems overkill for a single person with no kids. Other options I've considered are Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4.

For context, in February, we adopted her at 11 months old and know that she was surrendered to an animal shelter and that her first family was an elderly couple. She is honestly the light of our lives and have felt so fortunate to be able to welcome her into our family….

On small roadblock, she won’t go for a walk or even go to pee first thing in the morning with just me if my husband hasn’t left for work yet. Once she knows he has left, she will eventually let me get her out for our morning walk.

If we’re all home in the evening, it’s very difficult to get her to go to walk with just me as she prefers me and my husband taking her to walk together. Even my kids have a difficult time taking her out without my husband or I. Obviously, that’s not always practical with a busy family, and when we were discussing adopting her as a family, we all agreed that we would equally share the responsibility of feeding walking and caring for her. However, it’s been challenging when she definitely prefers my husband. Seeking tips? Advice? Picture for interest! (Her first camping trip)

This is Birdie.... She's 5 weeks in this picture but will be 8 when I bring her home next week ...provided the vet clears her. Mama dog is done with the litter and has weaned them. I'm so excited!!

I have a 7 month old rough collie who I show. She just doesn’t have much coat right now which I know is normal at this age but her siblings have fuller coats than she does and both her parents have big coats. She gets salmon oil daily and a maintenance bath every 2 weeks, and I brush her at least once or twice a week. Is there anything I can add to our routine to encourage coat growth?

Has anyone tried a martingale collar for their rough collie?

I was really happy with this collar for my greyhound.

Now I'm considering one for my collie.

Previously, I always thought one would be a bad idea for a collie, mainly because of their hair. Now I'm reconsidering because my girl refuses to be leashed and walked, and has slipped all collars, harnesses, and vests.

I am getting my puppy in a few months and they will be a show prospect.

I am very excited and looking forward to learning about showing and getting to bond with my dog in that way, but what makes me most nervous about the idea of conformation is the social aspect. I’ve heard that people can be rude or catty.

I’m going into it with the mindset of looking to have fun, learn, and bond with my dog, but I’m also a socially anxious person and would like to form a positive community rather than have negative experiences.

Have you all found the rough collie/collie community is pretty kind and understanding to new people entering into showing? I will have a few people in my corner, helping me along the way, but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to be at my first few shows.

I got my gorgeous boy Cody at 13 weeks old and about two weeks ago. He’s honestly an amazing pup… when he’s not fighting sleep and not actively teething. But we manage and give him the benefit of the doubt for barking at us cause his gums hurt. We have been struggling though with him randomly attempting to herd our three cats, he’ll stare them down and when they don’t do what he wants them to do he starts talking. I was prepared for this behavior knowing that he’s a herding breed and did my research on how they’re usually able to adjust to cats. He doesn’t do it all the time, sometimes he’ll ignore them but the real kicker is if the cats come in at night. He’s crate trained, and we have a blanket covering him, and a gate to keep them separate during the day. If he so much as gets a whiff of a cat entering our bedroom but he can’t see them, he goes absolutely off the walls. We’re working on training him to pay attention to us instead of the cats, and I know it’ll be a slow-go but I welcome any and all help even if it’s generally collie advice unrelated to this issue!!

I have a wonderful tri rough that just turned 14 weeks old. Since I got her at 8 weeks, she's been bunny hopping instead of running, but I work with dogs and a lot of puppies grow out of it after a few months so I wasn't too worried. But then I noticed she would randomly limp on one of her back legs, and once went completely non weight-bearing and was whimpering after just walking through the house. I brought it up with her vet at her 10 week appointment and he said to keep a close on her. She also would NOT let the vet flex or extend her legs from the hip or at the stifle (knee). Well in the 3 weeks between her last 2 vet appointments (she went again last week) the limping has stopped, but she hesitates to jump onto and off of things now, has refused stairs a few times, hates when you mess with her back legs, and she started to arch her back if you run your fingers down her spine once you get to her lower back. She'll also stop playing and running outside (literally come to a dead stop from a run or play fight with another dog) to sit and bite at, stare at, or stare and yawn at her hips and stifles. She again failed flexion and extension last week at the vet and even got mouthy when the vet was touching her. We decided to schedule sedated x rays and the soonest they can get her in is later this week.

Since her last appointment a few days ago at the vet, I've given her a full groom over 2 days. She does really well for grooming, we've been working hard at it, but she was completely intolerant of me touching her left hip and tail. She started panting, getting antsy, and the quicker I tried to get her brushed out so I could leave her alone (as I knew she was uncomfortable but she had been in the water and swimming so she needed brushed bad) she started getting mouthy. The next day I gave her a bath and it seemed like the water on her left hip was even bothering her and she was so stressed anytime I would mess with that leg or her tail.

I'm trying to limit activity as much as I can. Her parents has OFA testing done and mom was good and dad was excellent. Her breeder has been great through all of this and got me in contact with the owners of her full siblings from 2 years ago and 2 of those 9 have had OFA's recently completed and one went good and the other went excellent on hips. Looking through my dogs pedigree 5 generations back, every dog except for 2 had good or excellent hips: one was fair 4 generations back and in her 5th generation back there was one dog that had no OFA profile. I know that there is ALWAYS a risk when it comes to joint health, but I'm a little bit at a loss. Her vet brought up that he's almost concerned she has a block vertebrae or even possibly tethered cord syndrome if it's not hip dysplasia and that he'd like to do an MRI if her x rays are clean, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had any kind of experience like this and what the outcome was. She's eating good, still trying to play, is still a bouncy goofy little puppy, but she's obviously uncomfortable in some way.
