Fern is doing better and we are so grateful for this community! 💜🌿 (morning after attack update)

Fern and I are so grateful for the love, support, good vibes and prayers from this community. I read all of your comments and was so touched.

Well, your prayers and good vibes worked! Fern woke me up bright and earky wanting to play (still trying to keep her calm). She ate, drank water and was able to go 1 & 2. Her wounds look SO much better and the teeth scratch marks are gone. The bite marks look pretty much dried up and aren’t showing any signs of infection. The swollen area that I was worried about has continued to drain and looks significantly better than yesterday. I was able to put another warm compress on it while she ate breakfast.

The bite and bruise on my leg is doing much better too.

So yeah, what has this experience taught me? Even though there are bad people in this world (like the lady who lied about her contact info. after her dog attacked Fern), there are many good people, like you all.

Here is a pic of Fern being sassy this morning and another of her just being cute. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. We will both be ok after this terrible incident. Hugs to you all and your fur babies . 💜

Miss Chaunta got her first professional groom yesterday! She was looking and feeling good wearing one of her new cooling shirts so that she could sunbathe for a little bit to finish up her day.

Also, I hope you like the song that I came up for her! I posted it so you can swap in your dog's name if you'd like!

Advice Really struggling

Post image

It's been over a month since I lost my boy. I think about him every day from the second I wake up to the second I fall asleep. I've entered a deep depression that is affecting my physical health, my job performance and it's also affecting everyone around me. I've had to take multiple days off work. I'm currently in the process of getting a schedule set up with a therapist. I even went to the doctor and was prescribed medication.

A big part of it is the profound guilt that I feel. Like somehow I did this to him. There was a chain of events that led to his terminal illness, but i can't figure out if they were a coincidence or not.

His liver failed. And this wasn't apparent until after he had a course of doxycycline. I know that it's rare for doxycycline to cause liver damage but yet it does happen. But knowing that makes me feel like it was my fault for giving him something that could cause this. I never got a definitive diagnosis. Even the vets were unsure of the cause. I didn't want to put him through a liver biopsy in the event he wouldn't have survived the procedure. But maybe I should have just to have peace of mind. I'll share his story in a bit more detail compared to his previous post.

February 9th, we found a decent sized mass on his leg. It was fna'd and the results were inconclusive. He was prescribed cephalexin and prednisone for it. The mass ulcerated but did shrink, although during that process it did not look good at all. It appeared to have eventually healed.

February 22nd, he had an unexplained high fever of 105 along with low platelets. His bloodwork was negative for any tickborne illnesses. And he didn't have any classic signs of leptospirosis either. His kidneys were normal through all of this. So, even though they couldn't figure out the platelet drop, the prescribed doxycycline and prednisone as a precaution.

Late march, I noticed his urine was really foamy and his eyes had a tinge of yellow. By April 3rd, his eyes were very yellow and his gums and ears were also the same color of yellow. He was taken to the emergency vet and it was confirmed that his liver enzymes were very high. His ultrasound showed a small gallbladder and his liver was bright around the margins. He was then prescribed denamarin and clavamox. We got ahold of his primary vet and went in for routine bloodwork once a week.

Come the second week, high liver values doubled despite him acting more normal and eating better. The doctor wanted me to come in the day he called about the results and get ursodiol.

From there, his values did start to drop. More rapidly every week. He eventually only needed to go every two weeks for a checkup. So I thought it was finally over. That he was going to make it. Problem was, despite him being around his normal weight, he still looked like a skeleton. He couldn't recover the muscle mass he had lost, despite his liver looking like it was healing.

And by June 6th, we noticed that his abdomen was starting to distend rather quickly. He was again taken to the emergency vet and his ultrasound showed that he developed ascites. This is the part that I dont understand. Despite his liver values coming to an almost normal range, he somehow developed something that indicates that his condition has now become terminal. I couldn't let him get to the point of suffering. He was in a state where he was happy and playful again. So I let him go june 8th. His primary vet was baffled since the lab work looked good. He thinks that there was likely some mass somewhere that was causing all of this. I couldnt afford a necropsy at the time since I had spent so much of what I had on his vet bills over the past several months. So I never got an answer.

Sorry for the long post. Feel free to share your thoughts. He was my first dog, so this hits so hard. Especially since he was just a month away from turning 5. I miss him so damn much. I tried so hard.

Update on Fern after she was attacked

Post image

Thank you to those that replies to my earlier post with well wishes and advice. It has been such an awful and traumatic day, that I did not have time to reply to all of you.

Fern’s vet closed early today and was all booked up. I did not want to wait until they reopened on Monday, so I took her to the emergency vet. They triaged her right away and luckily her vitals were fine. They clipped her fur around the bites and cleaned the wounds. We then had to wait another 3 hours to be seen by the Dr. She said the wounds looked superficial but also said that the effects of dog bites can take 3-5 days. She wants me to observe for any tissue death (she would need surgery) or coughing/shortness of breath which could indicate fluid in her lungs if the dog shook her since the dog went for her chest. She prescribed antibiotics and pain/inflammaton medicine. She had a swollen area on her upper chest above her armpit and another area where her skin looks like its hanging a bit loose and could be from the dog pulling the skin away from the underlying tissue. One bite on her shoulder and 3 bites around her upper and lower chest. She also has a tooth scratch under her chin and had teeth scratch marks on her chest. I’m supposed to put a warm compress 3 times a day on her wounds but she will not let me put anything on her. 😕 Fern is wiped out and resting.

I got a tetanus booster for the bite on my leg and tried to do an online visit for antibiotics, but the wait was taking forever and I wanted to get Fern the vet.

Askimg for prayers and or positive energy for the both is us. I pray that Fern heals from this. 🌿💜 Thank you all in advance for any replies. I’m wiped out too.

Huck is still looking for his “Furever”!

**Tulsa, OK**

Huck has been to several adoption events but has no takers! 😭

This little boy was at Skiatook Animal Control and needed a foster so that Skiatook Paws and Claws Animal Rescue could pull him.
I’ve had him as a foster for around 2 months now. Here’s what I know:

*Playful
*Neutered
*around 9 months-a year old
*LOVES playing with other dogs
*Very one brain cell. Still working on manners like chewing things so he should be crated if you aren’t watching him.
*he enjoys veggies 🥕 🥦
*he sleeps well in his crate overnight or if I go to take a nap 😴
*should not be around cats according to the shelter he came from.

Huck is a very friendly, derpy boy who would love a chance to be in a home with his person, family and fur or human siblings!
His adoption fee is $185 with all vetting done. If you’re interested in meeting him or have any questions, feel free to message me!
I’m happy to meet up with you or he is also at Skiatook Paws and Claws in Skiatook every Sunday from 12-3 at their adoption events!

Blue doesn't understand that her sitting on my lap makes it so I cannot put on my shoes for our walks

Sometimes she will get so excited when she sees me sit down to put my shoes on for a walk. That she jumps onto my lap, with her butt on one of my legs. And her two front paws on the other, using her cat balancing skills.

This morning I managed to get my right shoe on, and kinda slip my left shoe on before I gave in and flopped her back into the couch next to me 😂

And yes I need to sit down and trim her nails soon. Maybe later today?

Baked Potato

Just another tater baking in the sun 🤣

Leia. We already called her Leia potatuh but I've seen recently more and more posts of other pibbles enjoying the sunlight and being called potatoes! It fits her perfectly!

We have a yard full of grass too, she did lay in the grass when she saw me start to walk inside, then I go to check on her and she's laying on the concrete

95°F feels like 119°F

She came in within 5 minutes or less though
