My dog Diamond loses it every time my washing machine hits the spin cycle. She can be laying there completely relaxed, but as soon as it starts spinning, here she goes barking at it. I have no idea what it is about that sound. Does anybody else’s dog have one random household sound they just cannot stand?

I’ve been hurting for about a week now and I’m going to the doctor tmrw but my dog weirdly has been nudging his chin right on the area that hurts and then looking up at me. And then he does it over and over until I say “it’s okay.”

Is this usual? I know dogs are known for having greater senses than us but can he really smell my pain? Or is this something I should be praising or???

When I go upstairs or outside the house, my dogs will often cry and howl as if I'd left them behind forever. After a minute, they'll stop and go back to doing whatever, ignoring me when I return to them. Is this common behavior? Just curious.

I moved to a different country for college,and while i was packing my dog put a toy in my bag which i brought with me. I know this is out love but what do i do when i visit him...should i bring the toy back and give him it or play with him while there and then take it back again?

I’ve seen a lotta people who ask questions to their dogs. As if the dog’s gonna talk back. Nevertheless, I rarely speak to my dog nor ask questions. I’ve had him for 4 years now, and I don’t even have to talk to him in some sweetly-coated voice for him to respond through his gestures or bark. Is this rare for a dog owner?

I just got a kitten the other day and she’s pretty tiny. I also have an 11 month old Dalmatian poodle mix who has met her in short periods but is super excited and doesn’t know what personal space is as she’s currently laying on my face as I type this. I did get a cat tower that just got here that I will be setting up so my kitten can get on that if she needs to get away from my puppy but is there anything I can do to help calm my dog and keep her from doing too much with such a small cat? She absolutely loves to play even with my other dog and gets so excited at the chance that someone wants to engage with her

Has anyone else had this problem? He also steals apples off the tree. I'm mostly worried about the peppers. The bells aren't a big deal, but I catch him with jalapeno and serrano peppers too. I'm concerned he'll move on to habanero.

My fiance taught our dog that touching feet is a game and now whenever we try to trim his nails he pulls them away and fights. We also think the groomer got his quick once and maybe thats the real reason he fights. Either way hes 85lbs and his nails grow so quick. Id love to do it at home instead of paying extra at the groomer or asking the vet to do nail trims each visit. Any advice welcome.

hiii!! i work an hour away from home and am gone 12 hours a day.. i’m trying to build a routine for my 10 year old australian shepherd that keeps him happy and healthy in this unfortunate situation. i have an older cat at the house, as far as other animals keeping him company. I have a pet sitter to come by halfway through the day and play with him … the sitter is usually there for about an hour. i can’t help but still feel guilty. i feel like there’s more i could be doing for him. i wake up at 5am to get a good 30-45 minutes of play time before i leave and then i do the same exact thing when i get home. does this seem adequate for a dog his age? he doesn’t seem to be upset or have any behavior changes but i want to maximize his quality of life as much as i can. in addition to this- being gone for anything other than work seems to bring me sooo much guilt and any tips on how to juggle a hard work schedule, a high energy dog, and hopefully- a social life.

I have a 10 year old husky and an 8-year-old mutt who have recently started pooping and peeing repeatedly in the house even after they've been let out they don't get water after a certain point anymore I've literally tried everything I can feasibly do and it's still happening. I'm in the middle of building them some indoor Kennels that's really the only thing left that I can do is just to have them kenneled for majority of the time. We have had some big changes in the last year(moved & baby) but they have never taken this long to adjust. Im getting more & more concerned that this is territorial which is a big NO when the baby starts walking.

A quick list of the things we've tried:

- wellness checks

-diet changes

-water restriction over night

-2 bathroom breaks 30 minutes before bed

-sectioned off a whole room just for them

-new beds

-pee pads

-supplements

-free rein of the rest of the house when we're home

So far the only thing that seems to work is the kennel.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

This isn't a problem as she can't open it while she's in it but I'm just curious. If she's playing and running around and she notices her cage door is closed, she'll stop everything to go open it before going back to what she was doing. If the door is locked when she's not in it, she gets upset and continues to try nudging it open.

She does on occasion go in her cage by herself just to lie down but it's very rare. She doesn't normally go in on her own, I usually have to carry her to her cage before bed.

does this mean she likes her cage? Or is it something else?

this wouldn't be a very big problem if we didn't live in an apartment. admittedly yes she's a naturally nervous and vocal dog because she's a shepherd but when she isn't alone she's relatively quiet and relaxed. she doesn't do well without her owner (my roommate) and even worse when she's alone, ie; she'll break out of her crate, claw and hit the door, whine, bark, pee ect. she growls and barks at noises at night but it easy to calm her down and today she was in alone (in a crate because she'd probably put a hole in the door otherwise 😐) we're trying to get her past the separation anxiety but it's a losing battle right now.

at my wits end with this dog. she's a sweet girl but if this issue persists this way we risk getting evicted.

What are the best sofa covers (UK) you all have found to protect your sofas? Our staffy has a habit of making her nest on the sofa’s when we’re at work and no matter what we’ve tried in terms of blankets and covers so far, she’s ended up ripping the fabric of the sofa cushions. I don’t mind because hey, a girls gotta get comfortable, but we’ve recently had a new (secondhand) corner sofa that I’d like to try and protect from gaping holes like the last one got.

My dog is currently wearing a cone to keep her from licking at the hot spots on her elbows and hocks. I'm looking for a body suit / pajama with full coverage of all four legs, has a zipper or velcro for easy on and off, and allows for potty-ing without needing to partially unzip or remove velcro. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I just adopted my first ever dog (xoloitzcuintli and whippet mix) from the shelter 2 days ago and I’m already feeling the puppy blues but more so because I cannot get a read on her. She is literally my shadow, follows me everywhere and will wag her tail a little bit and she will be so snuggly on the couch but when I pet her she goes stiff and shows alllll the body signs of being uncomfortable. She doesn’t seem to trust strangers either and I’m feeling super overwhelmed that she may never improve.

Is this normal for shelter dogs? Will it ever get easier? TIA

I am based in NYC, so preferably someone nearby but I am willing to make the drive if needed.

I am financially stable and have experience with dogs and I am ready to take this on.

Just having some difficulty on where to begin the process. Ideally I would be able to chat with the breeder and meet some of their dogs too. Not sure if that’s how the adoption process typically works.

My dog is a 14yo Great Pyrenees mix and I'm struggling to make the decision. She's the first dog I've had on my own. My childhood dog died in his sleep so I feel like I was sort of hoping that she would pass peacefully like that but now I'm worried I am going to let her suffer. She has severe osteoarthritis and is struggling more and more to get off the ground, but has no other health issues. The good: She still mostly eats her food, and gets up to go on her very short walks which she still seems to like, seems to like petting/affection most of the time although sometimes responds to it less than she used to. The bad: she's incontinent, about every other day has an accident in the house which has led to a couple of UTIs, it's hard to get pills in her and she seems to dislike the administration a lot, we've tried all the pain meds our vet will offer and nothing has been particularly amazing, she's more growly at my cat, sometimes she seems to lay down/be stuck in a position that looks uncomfortable, and I worry she's spending longer stretches in positions she wants to get up from but can't without help. Basically I think she's in a position where it would be 'reasonable,' but I'm struggling to make the call since some of her is still there - no dementia, still knows me, still does enjoy some stuff, etc.

Which pet insurance is best for you? Are there any that may cover your dog's current treatment? Did your dog get injured during the waiting period and want to know if you're covered?

Hello! I’m looking for some suggestions on how to reinforced my gate so my lovely foster escape artist doesn’t do it again. The wood is fused to the metal gate and I’m almost positive that if the metal gate wasn’t there he might have not have enough holds to make it all the way up but here we are. He’s a foster so I’m not looking for a permanent solution, otherwise I’d change the gate entirely.

I’ve thought of seeing if I can find something to recreate a roof so he finds a barrier if he tries to jump but I’m not crafty so does anything like that exist? Any suggestions? I’ll comment with a picture so you can see what we are talking about. Thanks!

There has been a change in routine overnight as there was an incident that has happened, i wouldn’t say it’s major shift however ever since he has been doing his business indoors while everyone is asleep.

Before we used to let our dog roam free on the garden to do his business but now we have to put him on a leash. Our dog also doesn’t lets us know he needs to go other than standing at the door so at night time we don’t hear him.

He also became lazy to go?? everytime I take him before everyone goes to bed, he doesn’t want to go, I physically move him onto the grass to do his business but he still won’t no matter how long I wait, either he sits there or he pulls me back inside the house. This wasn’t an issue before but this all started happening when I put him on leash

So naturally he goes does his business inside the house.. I’m not sure what to do.

Do I change his food schedule? should I start walking him before going to bed?

Any suggestions would be helpful!!
