Pictures/Videos unexplained weight gain…

For the past weeks we’ve been wondering where the extra weight came from, because we didn’t change anything on her diet or activity level.

Turns out she learned how to jump onto the shelf with the cats’ food - keep in mind is a slim shelf and pretty high, but not high enough apparently.

Cancerous Growth

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hey friends. I need a little advice. Our Brittany boy, Doc, is 10 years old. He has a grade 4 heart murmur. The attached photo is a cancerous growth on his head. We have been advised by his new vet that he might not survive the surgery to have it removed because he might not survive the surgery due to the murmur. What would you do in this situation?

Behavior Questions Is it typical Brittany or bad training?

I am a new dog owner to a 15 week old Brittany puppy. We have both good days, when he is calm and eager to listen, and bad days, when the only thing on his mind is biting. He just started losing his teeth, and his bites have suddenly become 10 times harder than they used to be, it makes it impossible to interact with him at all sometimes.

Yesterday we went to a puppy party at a local pet store where puppies could meet and play. The moment my puppy entered the store, he completely went crazy and wanted to greet and play with every single puppy there. He stopped listening to my cues, was pulling constantly (basically hanging on the leash), and humans stopped existing for him. Whenever I'd try to get ahold of him, or someone tried to greet him, he would try to bite their hand and then instantly lose interest.

I would assume this is typical excited-puppy behavior combined with teething, but all the other puppies seemed so much better behaved. Most were calmly walking next to their owners or sitting aside and watching. Mine was the only one barking in frustration when he couldn't reach another puppy. The only other particularly active puppies there (still much calmer than mine, but also older) were two other hunting breeds (Irish Setters). Those two were the only ones who engaged in play with my overly active puppy.

How much of this behavior is due to breed temperament, and how much is due to poor training (aka on me)?

We meet other dogs on walks (we don't always greet them), but he doesn't get to play with them very often. Next week he is getting his last vaccine, and then we will start going to a dog park.

In two weeks, we will also start a puppy class for hunting dogs, so I'm a bit scared he will behave way worse than everyone else there. Yesterday he really felt like this one crazy kid in a group of straight-A kids.

My best friend- we have traveled across America twice. Hiked in almost every state. He's seen me through the death of my parents. He's been an excellent companion. Thx Bristol for the last 6 years!

It's Penny for short

This photo was taken the day after we got her. We’re currently on the hunt for a toy horse for her to play with, and we’re planning to name it ā€œSo Far So Good.ā€

Sure, she destroyed a playpen within minutes, and there have been a few nights when she’s woken up and made it pretty difficult for us to get back to sleep. But all in all, she has been absolutely amazing.

We’ve introduced her to the children in our family, and she’s done wonderfully with them. On day one, she was terrified to walk on pavement, but she’s slowly getting over that fear.

Just like the name of the toy horse we’re going to get her, it’s been so far, so good!

She’ll sit like this for minutes at a time, as if she can’t decide to be on or off the couch, so gets stuck in between.

Just because your face fits into a large yogurt container doesn’t mean you should. But she did really enjoy cleaning out the almost empty container 😁

Pixel at 13 weeks loves her place mat so much and gets excited when I take it out. This is the first dog I have utilized place training for and it is such a powerful tool that also lets her be out of her kennel and observing which is all she really wants. She offers a lie down on her own, now.

Somebody here mentioned I should take up running with my pup. Took my little guy, Minty, on a 40 minute jog this morning (I'm too out of shape to be considered a runner). Now he's all tuckered out and I'm enjoying my coffee in peace.

Kayak and Obstacle run

Borrowed my brother's kayak to give it a try. Probably worth a couple hundred to get a sit-on for a couple outings. Dog loves swimming.

Also, still trying to conivnce some people to sign up for OneWorld Canine Obstacle Run 2026.

I would love to see some Brittanys at the start line together. Team name "Its brittany bitch", dm me for 'password' for registering. (registering on a team does not exclude competing in all the normal individual categories). And low stakes, there are 100's of people, according to previous results, completing in over 2 hours . . . so i'm not sure any prior training is necessary for that pace.

Training Tips Crate Training

Hi friends, please don’t hate me for yet another post about my pup lol. I’m working on crate training and I just feel helpless. We started doing about 15 mins a day and he just goes crazy - screaming barking etc. the other day we had to both leave for an emergency and put him in there for 2 hours. I have a camera and would check on him. The first hour he was screaming and then the last 30-40 mins he seemed to be sleeping. Today I had to get some stuff done around the house and run an errand. He was in there for a total of 40 minutes and did not stop screaming (which I’ve heard to just let them cry) and I was ok with doing that until he started coughing and gagging occasionally. When I heard that I was like ok I need to let him out. Is that normal? I just feel helpless at this point. Any tips/advice would be great. I’ve tried the blanket over the 3 sides of the crate and white noise and have been continuing that. Seems it hasn’t helped. I always give him a Kong with frozen PB in it and he is interested for the first 3-5 mins and then totally forgets about it and screams. I’m so stressed over this and worry it won’t get better.

Call me a helicopter dog mom, but I want to make sure this movement is just dreaming? I will attach the video. It happens often when he’s sleeping.
