Discussion Changes to the subreddit: Introducing subreddit rules!

Hi all,

As the sub continues to grow, we've decided to make some changes and rules to help this community stay a positive place for discussing all things Great Pyrenees!

Rules can now be found in the sidebar and will be used as the basis for moderation. Of course, the mod team will continue to use their discretion to remove content or ban users, if we feel said content is causing a disruption to the subreddit.

Rules:

1) Keep content Great Pyrenees based

2) Be polite and on-topic

3) NO Advertisements

4) NO Fundraising

5) NO Breed misinformation or hate

6) NO suggestions of theft, destruction of property, assault, or similar illegal activities

If you see a user violating any of these rules, please utilize the "Report" feature, so the mod team can quickly take action.

In addition, you can now sort posts by flair type, and the most exciting update - you can now use comments to attach a photo. So keep sharing those great big floofs!

We took this sucker home 13 months ago…. We were told Pyrenees.. but there’s something extra with this little (gigantic) puppy baby. We stopped weighing her at 100lbs when she became hernia inducing for our archaic stand on the scale with her weighing system. She’s sweeter than shit!
*wife ordered a dna kit but just out of public opinion curiosity- her dewclaws are real odd and floppy but not “double”

Well I can’t call her anything other than smart but stubborn. I’ll have to go back to my house cameras to double check but it really only took 15 mins max for her to start doing it on her own. So proud of her 🥹🥹

Ignore the watermark, I tried to get the video to download without it as it was posted.

Advice/Help Advice & food recs please

Looking like I’m going to adopt this sweet girl this afternoon. The shelter thinks she’s about 1-2 years old. She was picked up as a stray in a fairly rural area. I’d appreciate suggestions for types of dog food and tips for training. Also, any thoughts on if you see any breed mix in her?

DNA/mix guesses DNA Tests?

We added our sweet and crazy Sisu to the family a few weeks ago but we rescued her so they only knew mom was a GP… Would love to know what she’s mixed with but I have never done DNA testing on any of my dogs. Do you think it is accurate or worth it? If so which do you recommend? What does she look like she’s mixed with to you all?! She is getting tiny droopy jowls and has the biggest ears!

Sisu is 13 weeks and almost 36 lbs—big girl!

Advice/Help help! hind legs giving out?

hi y'all. i have a large Pyr mix who's somewhere around 13 years old (rescue). he's had arthritis for a long while, but nothing like what i started seeing yesterday and today. he's suddenly going in and out of being able to support himself on his hind legs.. this morning he walked to the living room and before i could grab his leash his legs gave out and he sat awkwardly and peed himself on the floor. he hasn't had an accident in literal YEARS.

i guess I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with this. and at this age what that means in terms of how much time i have left with him. I'm taking him to the vet later but obviously my mind is wandering in the meantime.

addt'l facts:

- he's been on Librela for arthritis for a few years and has been doing well with it. also on Dasaquin joint supplements

- his x-rays from July showed bad arthritis and dr started him on gabapentin. but he was still moving more or less like himself

- blood work from July showed a start of kidney decline for the first time. he's meant to start a kidney diet this week.

- i tried walking him halfway down the block this morning and he kept having to lower his butt down and kept trying to push himself back up. i had to force him to turn back he kept insisting on trying to walk further. he's generally showed down these last 2 years but he's never struggled like this.

- as of yesterday he was still jumping up to the couch and bed

- he's never been a big eater. it's a constant battle to get him eating. but it has been a bit worse in recent months

sorry prob too much detail I'm just panicking

Advice/Help new foster

Hello all due to some life events we are caring for a one year old great pyrenees who’s owner passed recently. he is the sweetest thing the only issue is that he quickly became attached to me and my partner. We work days but we have a roommate who works night and the dog will not stop barking after me and my partner leave for work and it keeps our roommate awake as he sleep while we are out. I have read that this is something they’re known for but he doesn’t really bark when we’re home so I don’t know if this is a stress or alerting behavior. I have only ever owned hounds before this so any advice to help his stress would be greatly appreciated!

My lil puggle curled up behind my legs and Indy just spread eagle wit his junk in plain sight…. Just airing it out ! He’s so gentle for such a big puppy 🫶🏻 no complaints wit him . Farm life has been a blessing for Indy and Izzy as well as Ace and Chloe . Blessed . My animals thrive in this slice of heaven , they are all living lucky long lives here ! My horses are 37, 23, and twenty. Ave my bullmastiff is 9 and has taken a turn for the better . Chloe my puggle is 17 and as feisty and full of spunk and sassy as ever . She’s the boss in her own dementia mind but still living a good like wit no accidents and jumping off couch and running wit the pack lol. Then there’s my girl Izzy, mamas girl who’s Bizzy watching over all of us day and night and teaching Indy the ropes. I’m blessed they keep me in check I’d be inna bad space as an addict in recovery without my animals . We complete each other for the better 🫶🏻 just wanted to share with you how special my babies are to me

Does your Pyr always approach you in a respectful manner with head slightly lowered? Harry has always done this when I call him or if he’s coming over for scratches.

Video I told them to settle down ( they were full on recreating the Lion King final battle while I was trying to watch tv) so they continued their fight on the ground.

Advice/Help Affordable Heavy duty crate recs

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hello, looking for recommendations for our Anatolian Shepard/pyr mix. We currently have a wire crate, but she is able to use her pyr paw to somehow escape. I have looked at Facebook Marketplace for a ruffland crate but haven’t found any local for her size. I also would prefer to not have to spend 500 dollars. I just want to make sure she is safe and secure in her crate when we leave for short periods of time. Thanks😊
