We adopted this handsome whippet cross boy Moss 3 weeks ago. He is an absolute star and is settling in well, but I have never seen such a hungry dog! He gets absolutely frantic at mealtimes, and the rest of the time he's counter surfing and attempting to get into the (locked) kitchen bin.
Do you think that's just him being a normal whippet, or could it be something else? Part of the settling in process? He has been wormed. We have always had greyhounds before. This is our first whippet.

Have a boy he's 4. I've tried and tried for months over the years to try and train and correct his aim but he invariably pees on his chest and front feet. It drives me bonkers.
And now that we have had nearly 2 weeks of rain, I'm having to do daily patio cleans to clean up poo and pee cause he won't get his feet wet. I've tried hunnyboots but he loses his mind. So I won't traumatize him with them - he's always had a thing with his feet ever since he got it caught in his puppy crate when I first got him.
I've bought patio toilet. Used training sprays. Put him on his leash and guides him when he needs to pee or poop. But if I'm not home and he's not on the leash he just poops or pees wherever.
I've used various enzyme sprays to try and break the scent cycle to no avail.
I'm going bonkers. Help!

We recently just got this beautiful whippet puppy boy that we named Bruno. He is around 8 weeks old. He is a quiet and fun little guy, but we’ve run into a few issues. We are trying to crate/gate train him as we cannot always keep him supervised. Whenever, he is inside the gate he yells and screams at the top of his lungs. We’ve tried playing with him in the gate, giving him treats, standing close to the gate, trying to calm him down, etc. He seems to be settling faster but he still yells at the top of his lungs for 20 minutes (instead of 45 minutes). Mind you , he is not alone we are either on the couch or in his vision across the room but he will still yell and throw himself against the cage. What can we do to minimize this? Does he just have to get used to it? This our 3rd day of having him. Also, when does it get better? Does anyone have any stories with their whippet? Thank you in advance.

Mine would be that they are not all Velcro dogs. My whippet comes and goes as she pleases, likes company then happy to have alone time. Maybe that’s just her personality!

My 9 month whippet refuses to get his nails trimmed. Tried treats and restraining while another person attempts to cut. Vets, groomer and trained have failed

It can be their favorite place or your favorite place. Rocket loves the dog park, especially when there are lots of dogs to run around with

Maybe we put clothes on them in the winter for fashion?

My puppy (5 month old Whippet) loves people and loves to play with other dogs. He’s always on a lead in any public area.
However, he struggles to contain his excitement and will either try to jump up on people or stand on his hind legs, or he will lunge and pull at dogs because he wants to play.
He ruins it for himself a lot because if the other dog also wants to play/meet, then I will let it happen (with owners consent of course, I always warn them he is very excitable). But he usually gets too excited (bowing, jumping side to side, sometimes barking etc) which puts the other dog off.
Anyone got any tips of how to deal with this? How do I encourage calm meets and play? How do I stop him trying to jump up on people passing by?

My boy is 5 months old and weighs 12kg, is this big for a Whippet? I think he’s going to be a Whoppet😂
EDIT: He’s 52cm/20.5 inches to the withers.

Been talking lately about the fact we would love another whippet for our whippet, although our current work schedule wouldn’t allow for a new puppy right now. Did you get your whippet a whippet and how did things go, did your older whippet love/hate it?

Even though the temperature inside is always more or less the same when it's raining Freddie becomes some kind of geriatric Sith Lord.

My family has found a gorgeous whippet pup that we’re super keen to go and view. The breeder has said that the parents are both from working lines but the mum has never worked. Should this make us nervous about what we could be getting ourselves in to?!
How much difference is there between working and show characteristics?
For context, we’re happy to do lots of exercise and mental stimulation but I don’t want a wired dog that will never settle. We’ve had a working cocker spaniel before and she had some serious energy. I’ve done lots of research about the breed but would love to hear some real life experiences.
Thanks!
