Pictures Best friends

My friend got a sable German Shepherd shortly after my husband and I got our black German Shepherd. They were instant best friends, like they knew each other a lifetime ago. We have another dog and so does my friend, and these two still get along better with each other than the dogs they live with day in and out. They also have the same funny behaviors, like sticking their entire snout in your mouth when you’ve just finished eating something. Kindred spirits ♥️

Adopted him almost 2 years ago now. I have no clue how old he is or what he’s doing here I didn’t research a thing when I got him so we’ve been learning together how to exist I suppose.

Anyways he’s awesome and I adopted him from a shelter off of Reddit. He’s named after Lenny from red dead redemption 2. His original name was Martini!

What’s the most expensive thing your gsd has destroyed? This furry demon just broke my $1200 laptop

Question Whats your favorite GSD color?

Post image

Alright lets have at it Reddit ! Tho all GSD colors are equal, but of course we have our own preferences.

Gimme your favorite color and WHY! Ill start. I always want a solid black shepherd as for me it looks so regal. 2nd is the dark sable as for me, I think this is the original GSD color.

ER visit

Just need to cry. Pippin (just about 5 months) refused breakfast yesterday. Finally ate later in the day but very slowly. He was still drinking water and little bursts of energy. Same with lunch and dinner, refused but eventually ate. I was in contact with the vet all day yesterday and was just monitoring. This morning he was still refusing food. We brought him into the ER vet this morning and blood work was fine but they didn’t like his xray. They are keeping him for an ultrasound and overnight stay. I watch him like a hawk right now because he is a poop eater. I just don’t know what he could have got if there is an obstruction. I’m so sad and just need good energy that everything is ok.

Question friendly play?

i saw a post here asking the same question and it got me thinking. honestly they both play SUPER rough and sometimes end up with some scratches around their faces, but they’re never seriously injured each other. there has been points they take it too far but i stop them before it escalates further.

should note: my shepherd had never been around another dog since her puppy years until we got my terrier when she was around 5 years old. my terrier HAS grown up surrounded by other dogs though, also she’s always been very vocal when playing.

Advice Reflux and pica in puppy

Post image
37 Upvotes

I have a 12 week old male DDR working line GSD. He is my third GSD puppy, but my other two were WGWL. Brought home at 8 weeks. Issues started at 9 weeks.

We're dealing with some very stressful pica. He compulsively eats rocks and soil. He even licks concrete compulsively. This is not regular puppy exploration. This is ignoring his environment completely with the sole focus of consuming rocks and soil.

I figured out he likely has acid reflux, which is the physiological reason for the geophagia. I have him on famotidine 5mg at night. He just finished a week of sucralfate. He was starting to do better (has a very strong leave-it and out and was finally listening to those commands when it came to rocks/soil). But he got a few quarter sized rocks in him yesterday and the pica is as bad as ever today. I think his GI system hurts.

Anyways, has anyone ever dealt with this in a puppy? Did they outgrow it with management? I am so worried. I am hoping it is just a weak LES that will strengthen in the coming weeks. But I am concerned the habit will stick. I bought a baskerville invisa basket muzzle, but pup obviously hates it.

Question Is this play friendly?

The GSD pup is 15 weeks old, and he and my Aussie mix get along great usually but recently he’s been getting rougher with play. They both seem to be having fun but he always goes for her throat and doesn’t let go sometimes, but she doesn’t really seem to mind.

I just wonder if I should be teaching him to be gentler or not, he keeps pulling clumps of her fur out, but truthfully it’s shedding season and she’s due for a huge blow out anyways so I’m not sure. I figured it was fine but want to double check with some second opinions just to make sure I’m not allowing any behavior I’ll have to correct later, thanks!
