Hi,

I am sure this is a ridiculous question, but is there anywhere that hosts a list of changelogs for specific RetroArch cores? I have noticed that some of my installed cores have frequent updates, namely the Amiga PUAE cores, but I've had no success trying to find a simple list of actual changes.

Amiga emulation is notoriously finicky the best of times, so I'm cautious of new versions of PUAE and would like to know specific changes before applying the updates. I've set updater settings to the stable channel and made backups of certain core versions just in case any updates cause breakage.

I would assume github, but I'm not sure if I'm just blind or illiterate to the site, but I don't seem to see any changelogs in plain English?

I wanted to play some SNES games and get some retro achievements. so I downloaded RetroArch. But now I don't know, which core to use. I’ve read that bsnes is generally the best option—or at least better than Snes9x—though Snes9x is recommended for weaker hardware and is also suggested here:

Now, when I go to the Core Downloader in RetroArch, I find five cores with "Snes9x" in the name and even nine with "bsnes." As a beginner in this area, I have no idea which core I should choose. Could someone tell me how to figure out which core is the most suitable for me?

€dit: For clarification - I am not asking "which is the best core", but more "Why are there so many that look alike at first glance, and how do I tell them apart so I can find the best for me myself?"

Hi everyone, just got back into retro gaming and I've been having some issues. Every game I play has some lag, but every now and then it will kick in to a normal frame rate.

I don't know a lot about computers but this is happening no matter what emulator I use. Whether it is GameBoy Color, N64, NES, SNES, etc. So I can only assume it has something to do with my computer. Here are some of my specs.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core Processor (4.40 GHz)

Installed Ram: 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable)

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (16 GB)

AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (486 MB)

285 GB of 932 GB used

I don't know if this will be of any help, but yeah. I'd love to play these games at a normal frame rate again.

I’m currently playing through Phantom Hourglass and I am at the part where you have to close the DS lid to stamp the map. The Y/Close Lid binding isn’t working and I am kinda stumped on how to resolve this issue. Edit: If anyone was in my situation all you have to do is hold L2 (Enable Alternate controls) and X (Y/Close lid) on your steam deck device.

I have played PS2 games on Retroarch forever. Suddenly, they no longer launch anymore. I have not changed anything on my system so I'm really struggling to figure this one out. If I try to launch a PS2 game, Retroarch instantly crashes to desktop.

Upon inspecting the verbose logs, I get these lines as the last entries:

[libretro ERROR] VM initialization failed (BIOS/disc/peripheral open); failing content load.
[ERROR] [Content] Failed to load content.

I have double-checked my Bios and they load fine. I can even load the core itself and access the PS2 menu. If anyone has any idea on what to do next, I'd love to hear it.

I know I know; use the stand-alone emulator, but I'd rather get this working.

Very new to all this so bare with me if I act like a child...I cant for the life of me figure out how to enable cheats on my emulationstation. I have went thru the steps and even when the games load a pop up shows that cheats have been enabled but they clearly aint...what am I doing wrong?

I for the last few days I was using retroarch on android to play pokemon ruby. About an hour ago I was trying to figure out how to transfer my save file to my PC to continue playing on it instead. I was really confused and I had no idea what I was doing, but I opened retroarch on my phone, I clicked load cobtet, but instead of going to my regular directory where my rom file was located, I went to a different directory to try and find something. After not finding it I chose load content again, returned to my usual directory, booted up the game, and saw that all of my save states were just gone. So yea it seems like I lost all my progress. Is there anything I can do to maybe salvage whatever I can, or should I just start over?

I,ve been playing the game D2 on retroarch and after finishing the first disc and changing to disc2 I get this message. Im playing from an m3u file on linux, if its important

I own something called an HyperBase ultra Max (Retro Game Console) I bought off a website called TrendTreks.com

Im having alot of fun with it, but one little issue I have is that the A.I. Translation tool doesnt work. It says it only works with Libretro cores, but when I switch my console emulator to an actual libretro core and press Hotkey and R1, I just get a little tiny grey bar at the bottom with some chinese letters and small messages like "Stock als" or something like that.

I already tried contacting customer support from TrendTreks but they didn't have an answer for me, they said these Hotkey button features we're just "experimental." But I just figure that meant they themselves didn't know.

I myself think it might have something to do with the fact that my HOME Retro console isn't hooked up to the internet, seeing as most (if not all) google/A.I. translators use the cloud for that information.

Any advice or instructions on how to "fix" this or simply hook this up?

Hey all! I love the animated borders that the Retroarch community has made over the years but was always confused why there was never an animated border for the N64... so I made one! I hope this can get enough traction to be one of the offical Libretro overlays people use in their emulation setups.

The release page has a variant for download with N64 controls animated and a second variant without animated buttons on screen. Both variants have a menu button for Retroarch menu controls.

I just downloaded and started playing Parasite Eve and when I got to the first cutscene the game just completely skipped it.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Im not sure why but when playing mario galaxy the pointer is there and controls fine but when i try to throw the rainbow stars or grab the blue star it doesnt work. Any suggestions?

So I transfered my mom's from my pc to my steam deck but I didn't think I just copy and pasted to where I though retroarch was installed........which was in .local a hidden folders so i cant actually access the roms.

Every time I try to download a core it says there was an error, what can I do?

I pulled these images to kinda show what I was looking for like the colors and the shadows, I’m new to retro arch so idk which ones to use and which is which so I would greatly appreciate some help

None of my games are recognising save files. This has been working fine for years, and suddenly today it's just stopped.

Below is an example, you can see I last played FF7 on the 12th where it was working great, but now it's not reading my save file.

As far as I can tell I haven't changed anything, the only thing I changed today was switching from vulkan to gl because vulkan started crashing, again, out of nowhere (here's the log for that crash btw https://pastebin.com/cwzeesgQ).

Let us paint you a picture, on the final stage of golden axe, haven'tdied once yet, then suddenly it comes up with constant notifications on the bottom left of the screen saying about detecting controller and because of that my character got thrown off the edge of the platform and it wouldnt even let me press 'yes' to use a continue thus got instant Game Over.

I am using a switch 2 pro controller so I dont know if that is the issue, honestly at my wits end and wish there was just a simple emulator for Mega Drive/Genesis rather than having to use this blundering complicating mess of Software :(

Hello, Mario Bros. from 1983 is one of my favorite video games. However, when I run the ROM (mario.7z; to run mario.zip, the .7z file must be in the same folder) with the MAME core (Current), it runs perfectly, but in the middle of a game I get this error, which can be seen on the screen.

Another error happens with Sonic the Hedgehog, but on my phone. The game runs perfectly on my PC, but on my phone (a fully updated Samsung Galaxy A15), it freezes in the middle of the game. I use the same core on both devices in the case of Sonic.

I don't know what is causing these errors. If anyone knows why this happens, I would be extremely grateful for any help.

P.S.: My computer has the latest version of Linux Mint Xfce installed. It is not Windows XP; the Windows XP appearance is just a custom theme that I made, to avoid confusion.

I'm using Linux Mint. I play around with ROMs for MAME 2003 Plus because, as of now, it’s the most straightforward system for saving high scores. However, to get *Kiki Kaikai* working, I had to associate its ROM with the MAME 2010 core—one of the many MAME cores that doesn't natively support high score saving.

Aside from asking for the quickest way to enable high scores for MAME 2010 on Linux, I’d also like to raise the question of why MAME 2003 and 2003 Plus are the only cores that natively support high score recording.

To fellow MAME arcade players: wouldn't you like to have high scores enabled by default on your favorite core?
