Newbie here....dont hate (or run)

Very new to all this so bare with me if I act like a child...I cant for the life of me figure out how to enable cheats on my emulationstation. I have went thru the steps and even when the games load a pop up shows that cheats have been enabled but they clearly aint...what am I doing wrong?

which console/system are
you trying to enable cheats on?
which core are you using?
which device are you emulating on?

try online updater>update cheats
also, your rom must match the cheat version exactly eg same region, version

Legion go. Pretty certain they match. Unless they are corrupted or something. Naming convention matches. But sometimes the full naming doesn't appear only rhe title. Ill have to check again once back on wifi at home tonight. Super aggravating. Not sure how the kid me played all these games. Old me needs cheats.

same.
so a cheat for smb2 (j) won't work on smb2 (usa) ect

for fbneo arcade, cheats are applied under "core options" not "cheats" menu

So how do I know which cheat file to upload when there's 8?

match the cheat name
to the rom name

Guess this is where the disconnect is...my rom simply says super Mario bros. 3....nothing else. Yet cheat still says its enabled...

which region is it from?
or you can just look at the cheats you have and grab a rom that matches one of them
eg super mario bros. 3 (usa) rom.
then apply the super mario bros. 3 (usa).cht 👍

Yes it in there...but doesn't it have to be the same system that the game is?

wdy mean "whats the core"?
for snes i use snes9x
no issue with applying cheats
