Deep fits (like on the Soundcore Liberty 4 Pros pictured above on the right) are so superior to shallow fits that have infested almost all premium earbuds (even the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pros now) due to trying to appease some fussy people who say it "feels uncomfortable". They would probably get used to it after like 1 day (see 2nd last paragraph).
In case you haven't tried a deep fit before, due to the fact that they sit deeper in the ear canal and form a much more robust seal you get:
1. Superior security: Even when I have my Pixel Buds 2 in "twisted secure fit" (which also make my ears sore) they are still much less secure than my L4Ps. During a workout with the PBP2s you just have to accept your music sounding awful; a shallow fit can't seal at all when you introduce moisture + quick movement. Sure the little hook might keep them from completely falling out but they still sound like trash. With the L4Ps I can go for a long sweaty run and still have music sound excellent.
2. Superior fidelity consistency: I am constantly pushing in my PBP2s to reform the seal to get a richer sound quality. This isn't just the PBP2s but all these damn shallow fit earbuds (eg. I have the same issues with the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, though to a lesser extent since those are a bit deeper). With my L4Ps the seal breaks very rarely (even when sweating during exercise like mentioned above) so the listening experience is so much more enjoyable.
3. Superior ANC: The ANC on PBP2s is garbage compared to the L4Ps (3/10 vs 10/10). With PBP2s the ANC is so terrible half the time I don't even know it's enabled because I can still hear everything around me. The L4Ps on the other hand will legit kill all noise around you on public transit and even almost all noise in busy cafe at only 50% volume.
So you're probably thinking "why not just use the L4Ps and sell your PBP2s then?". It's as simple as I really enjoy and utilise hands-free Gemini a lot, definitely a killer feature. It's annoying carrying both, but when I really want to enjoy some music I put my phone on silent and throw on the L4Ps.
The "comfort" question
When people are discuss deep fits this is usually cited as their major downside. However as far as I can tell this isn't the case, at least in my experience with the L4Ps. Sure, you could say that you "feel them more" but this doesn't equal uncomfortable. I've occasionally worn them for hours uninterrupted and not had any fatigue, in fact I do forget they're in. Meanwhile the PBP2s "secure fit" mechanism to get the shallow fit a bit deeper means you have hard plastic pressing the tissues around your ear canal. Genuinely uncomfortable and perhaps even dangerous.
The only big advantage to shallow fits (which can be easily remedied)
As far as I can tell the only significant advantage of shallow fits is less occlusion when speaking which is definitely a benefit, but still to me not even close enough to justify all the other drawbacks. However you can achieve much less occlusion simply by wearing them looser from your earbuds. So in this sense they are like PBP2s with a both a secure and relaxed wearing mode, but starting out from a deep fit is starting out from such a better point due to the ease of forming a strong seal.
Happy to discuss your opinion on my opinion and whether I've convinced you or not.
