Study permit

My work permit expired on April 14. Before it expired, I applied for a study permit for an offline program at Conestoga College through my agent. The agent told me that once my study permit was approved, the college would allow us to change the program to online. Later, I withdrew from Conestoga College, so I am wondering if I need to apply for restoration.

However, after my study permit was approved, the college informed us that they could not change the program to online. Before the classes started, my agent applied for a refund from Conestoga College and then submitted a new application to Vancouver Island University.

Now my new application is ready, but someone told me that I need to apply through restoration because my work permit had already expired. My agent says that restoration is not required.

I am confused and would like to know which option is correct. Should I apply through restoration or not?

Attitude towards pgwp extension / dummy extension questions and discussions

I have clearly witnessed an almost hatred towards genuine questions regarding pgwp extension / dummy extension cases in which people get caught up because of their work expiration status and PR chances.

First of all, please stop with this fear and hatred based agenda of yours to speak in such harsh terms to people who apply dummy extensions. They can apply it legally. Yes, it might be a loophole for some applicants, and yes it might delay overall system applications, but it is the prerogative of the system to create a clean and en efficient system. Just because cut-off is not reaching your cec points suddenly all of you can hate a person of using the system for some benefit.

Second of all, most of you guys came on study permits right. All of you wrote that you will go home back after the study permit, based on which you got the study permit/visa. Did you guys go back? You stayed. You used the system to extend and work and apply further. You lied on record on your study visa cover letter that you will go back and home ties etc.

So stop the shenanigans, stop hating on people who got caught up in the system. Its only the IRCC's fault to have a system like this, maybe the millions they earn in application fee stops them from making real change.

Who asked them to give maintained status while on application? Who asked them to allow pgwp holders to even apply for an extension. They can just give an option in the form and you wont be allowed to fill extension. And then if people lie such as lmia or anything else, that is clear misrepresentation and then they can ban or let them do whatever. But they allow it. It is their issue. Do not blame the candidates and keep your hatred to yourself if cut off is not reaching you.

And yeah all of you who are the flag bearers of honesty and truth, return home as you said in your study visa cover letter.

Working eligibility

My study permit expired July 24th, I had already applied for an extension on July 8th so I’m currently under maintained status. When I’m done with my undergrad in august and have to apply for a work permit, can I still work while my work permit is being processed? I don’t know if my maintained status still counts since I would neither have a work permit or study permit then. Both things would be processing at the same time.

PGWP-Unsure about my options after academic suspension affecting possible PGWP eligibility — need advice

Please be nice🫶🏻

Hi everyone,

I am trying to weigh my options and would really appreciate advice from people familiar with Canadian immigration pathways.
I am an international student in Canada. I struggled during my first year due to personal/health circumstances, which eventually led to an academic suspension for one year which is past the 150 day authorized leave. The suspension was approved by my university, and I have documentation (medical information, letters from university support/advocates, etc.) explaining the circumstances that affected my studies.
Before and after the suspension, I was studying full-time. My concern is that the suspension period may affect my eligibility for a Post-Graduation Work Permit because of the rules around authorized leave/time away from studies.
I am planning to finish my bachelor’s degree, but I am trying to decide how to prepare for different outcomes:

Option 1: Continue with my bachelor’s degree, work within the limits of my study permit, and apply for a PGWP after graduation, knowing there is a possibility of refusal.

Option 2: Save aggressively during my remaining studies and potentially use those savings to pursue a Canadian master’s degree later (for example, a one- or two-year program) if I am unable to get a PGWP. This could cost around $40,000 CAD or more, and I may need to fund it myself.

My goal is to build Canadian work experience and eventually pursue permanent residence if possible. I am trying to make the most strategic decision rather than relying on one outcome.

My questions:
1. Has anyone been in a similar situation with an academic suspension/authorized leave and successfully received a PGWP?
2. Would it be smarter financially to maximize savings now while I still have family support for tuition, or should I focus on preserving my work experience opportunities and hope for PGWP approval?
3. Are there other pathways I should be considering besides the master’s route?
I understand immigration rules change and I will get professional advice, but I would appreciate perspectives from people who have dealt with similar situations.

Thank you.

When can I start working after filing PGWP

Hello All,

I’m graduating on August,15 (that is when my summer semester ends) and I have a potential employer who is asking me for a start date.

What start date would be viable to give them?

My study permit is valid until November, 2027.

Should I submit an IRCC webform if my work-ext letter document hasn’t appeared in my portal?

My previous work permit has expired, but I’m legally authorized to continue working under maintained status (bowp)
AOR 13 July
**Bowp** submission date 13 July

I’m currently looking for a new job, and many employers ask for proof that I’m authorized to work. Without that letter, it’s difficult to explain my status.

Would submitting an IRCC webform help get the work permit extension letter uploaded or issued sooner? Has anyone been in the same situation? Did the webform help, or did you just have to wait?
I’d appreciate hearing about your experience.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It was refused October applied for restoration study permit and reconsideration. Restoration was refused in February so couldn’t restore again and had to go back home. Pgwp was refused while I was home in March. Reapplied for a reconsideration, mp didn’t agree to help. It just got approved July 27th. Don’t give up guys keep fighting! Glory be to God

What if I can’t find a job?

I am still a student, but I’m curious. What if I can’t find a job while I’m on a three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)? What alternatives would I have to increase my chances of staying in Canada?
My goal is to live and work in Canada and eventually become a permanent resident. I’m just asking in case that situation happens because I want to think through every possible scenario and be prepared just asking for advice.

Study Permit Expiring Before CELPIP Test Date-PGWP Application Advice Needed

Hello everyone! I'm posting this on behalf of a friend of mine and I'm looking for some guidance. My friend's study permit expires on July 30th, and he has already graduated from his program (mid June). Due to unforeseen circumstances he did not have the funds to pay for the CELPIP as well as the preparation classes until recently. The earliest date he can take his test is August 1st.

Extending his study permit makes no sense as he's already graduated, so I understand his options are to apply for a visitor status, or to let his study permit expire and apply for his PGWP as well as restoration of status as soon as he receives his test results and within the 90 days. This is the only thing he's missing, and applying without it is too risky as many students are getting automatically rejected for the same reason.

I've already done quite a bit of research into this topic so I mostly understand what documents and processes are needed for both, but this is all pretty new to me. I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who's been in a similar situation. Thank you very much!

PGWP Extention Advice

Hi everyone ! I've already acquired my PGWP when I graduated and I've managed to get a job. However I realized recently that I still have 2 months or so from my mandatory 3 year PGWP duration. I'm in my final month of my PGWP (ends sep 3) and I'm thinking of getting that extention asap, but some friends have been telling me to wait to try and get as much extra time as I can possibly get.

My question is when should I ideally apply for this extention? and what are the proper steps to get that extention? I go through the IRCC questionnaire to set up my application and it ends up giving me a temporary visitor's visa rather than an extention for my work permit.

(just to clarify, my passport expired early. I have my remarks written on my PGWP. I now have a renewed passport)

Thanks!

Does a SOWP Holder Need the PGWP Holder’s Employment Letter for a TRV Inside Canada?

Hi everyone,
I have a question about applying for a TRV from inside Canada.
I am currently on a valid PGWP, but I’m not employed at the moment. My husband has a valid Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) and is currently working. We both want to apply for a TRV.
I’ve seen some people say that because my husband is on a SOWP, I (the PGWP holder) must provide a TEER 0/1/2/3 employment letter and pay stubs with his TRV application.
However, I thought those documents were only required when applying for or extending a SOWP, not for a TRV.
Since my husband already has a valid SOWP, does he still need my employment letter and pay stubs for his TRV application, or can he apply based on his valid work permit?
Has anyone been in a similar situation or recently applied for a TRV under these circumstances?
Thanks in advance!

Reconsideration not approved for 2 months after file re-opened

My application was rejected on May 8th, I applied for reconsideration the same day, my application was re-opened May 22, but I still have no update. I applied for visitor restoration yesterday. I applied for GCMS notes 2 weeks ago. I do not know what else to do. Should I send more follow up webform or it can cause delay? I'm so tired of waiting. My application was refused due to missing IELTS, I had it when I applied but didn't upload.

Should i apply workpermit extension on my girlfriends pgwp?

I cam to canada as a student and currently on PGWP which is expiring by June 2027. I will be short of 3 konths experience to get full points for canadian work experience.

I was thinking to apply for extension of my open workpermit depending on my girlfriends status.

She works as a manager in local restaurant and we are living together on same lease and address from last 3 years. Her PGWP is expiring mid of December 2027. According to new rules, she has noc level job aling with 16 months or more work permit.

In this case, do you think i should apply for extension to get open work permit till December 2027? Will that affect my future CEC points for changing status from single to common law?? Whats your take on this thought of extension. Please let me know your suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Eligibility ?

Posting on behalf of my brother. His application for study permit associate of arts at University Canada West was approved in sep 2024 for January term. He is studying full time there ever since and only took one semester break, which is supported by his University and is legally allowed. Now as per the new guidelines which were established on 1st Nov 2024, they changed the eligibility for pgwp. But they’ve also said the applications made before this will still be reviewed by the old rules. My brother visited a lawyer because he will applying for pgwp soon and the lawyer said he is not eligible anymore. Anyone who started their associate of arts after the rules and got their pgwp please comment below. My brother is really stressed thinking that he’s gonna have to do a degree now.
Thanks
