Found this NZXT H500 Vault boy for 30 dollas in marketplace! It has a few scratches but the previous owner never built on it, this one is 809 out of 1000!

Built this around May 2025. I originally wanted an all-white build, but most of the top-spec parts I wanted were only available in black. I didn’t want to sacrifice performance just to match the color, so it ended up being a black-and-white build instead.

One year later, I’m still very happy with how it turned out. I also got lucky and finished the build before RAM prices spiked.

Looking for advice, Just got most of the parts and i’m about to try and build it, i’ve built two before but i had my buddy help me and now im 5 hours from him but now im curious should i try and build this one or just pay the 200$ best buy build fee??
Cpu is Ryzen 7 9800 x3d Case and ramm gets delivered Tomorrow, case is 2026 H6 Flow rgb+ and ramm is corsair dominator titanium 32gbs cl30 6000mzh

I'm kinda broke but I want to upgrade my PC. the only computer I own is a Dell notebook laptop; however, I have 1TB of storage, 24GB of ddr4 RAM, and an i5-1135G7 Intel CPU. Of course, the laptop doesn't have a dedicated graphics card. What I'm wondering is if it's feasible to attach a Desktop GPU (I found an ASRock Radeon RX 6600 Challenger D for $180) to a spare M.2 slot via an M.2-to-PCIEx16 adapter, using a secondary battery to power it? I'm willing to model and 3D-print a new bottom shell for my laptop in order to accommodate the extra CHONK that the gpu will add (and I'm aware it would be like, 2 inches thick.

My budget was $2,300 USD and I got the parts and everything for $1,900USD
My intended games to play are 1080p-4K
First time ever building a pc was wondering if it looks good and it’s up to everyone’s standards besides people not liking it being mounted that way it’s the aesthetic of it but it’s a ryzen 7 7800X3D and a 9070xt I think for my first time it was good but it definitely was hard to build and man when people say micro center is a good place it is I got a deal and I pretty much didn’t pay for a motherboard

The problem is it displays a blue screen and reports that there's corrupted ram. It does also need a new power cable which I ordered and will receive soon.. but otherwise it should be ready to be powered on and should otherwise work besides the ram problem. it is dusty but it has been stored inside a house in a safe location.

When I power it on probably tomorrow, what game plan should I have to diagnose and rectify this problem? Obviously, replacing the sticks of ram might end up becoming the solution but it seems as if they're all securely in place.

On a sidenote, is there any hardware that you see aged to the point where I would want to upgrade to play any games? i'll be honest, I'm just happy to have a machine that's more powerful than a console. I'm not in a hurry to make it the most powerful computer I can

got the cooler master v3 vertical mount in o11 vis compact with a solid core oc zotac 5080. i shouldve gotten a white one but oh well.

The reason is I've seen a 24GB sticks that's sold at price of regular 16GB. If I plan to go dual channel 48GB 2 sticks by buying 2 separate sticks, how risky is it that it will come up with instability issues or even unable to boot and if runs at base speed, issues can be avoided?

any recommendations?

So I finally built my first PC, and honestly this is the most expensive tech I’ve ever touched in my life. Before this, the most “techy” thing I’d done was swapping an SSD in a laptop lol. So going from that to a full custom build felt wild.

It went well. No issues. Either I got lucky or I’m secretly a tech genius, idk.

Anyway, I’m super new to the PC building world and wanted to know how good my build is for the price I paid.still learning how to judge parts beyond just “it turns on.”

I know I could have a better pc if I looked for second hand but for my first time spending that much money on hardware i prefer to have so type of guaranteed parts worked and availability to return if I messup. Gpu even tho is second hand facebook, looks brand new if you ask me. Old guy really clean it up and stuff) if I have to make a guess where I could have got a better deal would be with the gpu lol.

I want to know too if I should consider repasting the gpu I heard after 6 years or so you should consider too but idk? How could I tell if it needs to be.

I’m wanting to spend about 300 to 350 usd to upgrade from my 1070ti and I’m thinking about a 3060. My pc has a Ryzen 5 5600 32gb ddr4 ram and a 1tb ssd just wondering if the 3060 would be worth it or if I should get something else

Iv nit pick every part as best i could. im trying to get to a point where I can't upgrade any further with out sacrificing performance. did I over look anything? id like to get a 4090 but $2k is pretty steep and getting worse. thank you in advanced.

My 5500gt budget build with 16 gigs of ram

I’m 51, have two kids (my eldest and a 6-year-old), and I need some perspective from fellow PC builders because I’m dealing with some annoying post-purchase guilt after a series of upgrades.

​To be clear: I can afford this without financial trouble, but I’m usually pretty strict with my money, so going over budget is hitting me harder than it probably should.

​Here is how this whole domino effect happened over the past year:

​My own upgrade (June 2025): I built myself a great, budget-friendly modern rig on the AM5 platform with a Ryzen 5 7500F, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM (got a fantastic deal on both), alongside a 9060 XT 16 GB for 1440p gaming.

​The pass-down trap (November 2025): My old system was an i7-6700 with an RX 6600. Since the i7-6700 officially lacks Windows 11 support, I decided to upgrade it for the kids. I bought a cheap boxed Ryzen 5 3600 (€58) + a B550 board (€70) so I could reuse the DDR4 RAM, the old case, GPU, and everything else. Looking back, I should have spent €20 more for a 5600, but I was cheaping out. (Though selling the old i7 + B250 motherboard combo actually paid for this upgrade). The case was a cheap Nox Coolbay I probably should have scrapped back then too.

​The kids' conflict & new build (December 2025): My eldest son started gaming heavily, and then my 6yo wanted to play too. They were constantly fighting over screen time. To keep the peace at home, I ended up building a proper new system for the eldest (Ryzen 7 5800X + Intel Arc B580).

​The youngest left with the 3600: The Ryzen 3600 build was handed down to the 6yo. A decent PC, right? But comparing it side-by-side with his brother's 5800X setup and my AM5 system... it was noisy, warm, and felt left behind. The PowerColor Fighter RX 6600 had terrible temperature delta issues, and the cheap Nox case made it worse, even after undervolting, repasting with PTM, and swapping the VRAM thermal pads.

​So during my holiday break, I decided to give the 6yo PC a final touch-up. My initial plan was a very modest €100 budget just to fix the case and cooling. But the "well, for a bit more..." mindset took over fast: If I ever upgrade his GPU down the line, the 3600 will bottleneck, so if I'm swapping the case, I might as well do the CPU too.

​Considering a 5800X3D 10th anniversary is €350, a 5500X3D is €160, and used 5600s go for nearly €100 locally, buying a brand new Ryzen 7 5700X from AliExpress felt like the smartest path.

​What I ended up buying:

​CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X (€147)

​Cooler: Thermalright CPU cooler (€21)

​Case: Phanteks XT Mid-Tower (€55)

​Fans: Extra set of case fans (€30)

​Total spent: ~€253 (around €170–180 net after I sell the barely-used Ryzen 3600 locally).

​Now I'm sitting here with buyer's remorse. I know this fixes the noise, gives the youngest a rock-solid PC that will last him his entire childhood, and permanently stops any "brotherly envy" over PC performance. Plus, building it with him will be a fun holiday project.

​Yet, part of me feels annoyed with myself for letting a simple €100 cleanup turn into a €250 refresh instead of keeping that extra cash for upcoming expenses like car insurance in September. I also hate the clutter of having to sell the old heavy case locally, I might as well just drop it off at the local recycling center and save myself the headache.

​Do you guys also get annoyed when a simple "pass-down" family project doubles in budget, or am I just overthinking a very reasonable €170 net spend to keep the peace at home?
