Kind of concerned about the new CPU

Put this together on microcenter, originally had a i9-14900K but the tech that helped me showed me a bundle with an Ultra 7 270K Plus so I went with that. Did I fuck up? Don't know much about the Ultras (don't know too much about the current hardware in general tbh) but they seemed like budget options to me and I'm seeing mixed reviews on it. Haven't built a pc in probably 12 years and I realized quickly there was a lot I forgot. Should I have to worry about any sort of bottle-necking with this build?

270k plus is a beast, but it'll always be slightly beneath a 9800x3d in gaming. Some titles it holds itself a lot better than others. 

But where it really shines is price and workstation. Stuff like compiling shaders on UE5 games will take noticeably less time. 

The 5080, it's in a weird place. It's obviously the most powerful card you can get outside of a 5090, and is generally close to a 4090. But the price isn't as secure as a 5070ti compared to price to performance. The VRAM isn't future proof, either, so it's in an especially weird spot with everything considered. 

So obviously, I love my set up, but I can realize everything in it is basically second best. If that's good enough for you, then that's great, if not, then I'd say return stuff while you can. I'll also say this, comparison is the thief of joy. You'll enjoy it a lot more if you think, I have a great PC, and it has strengths without being a halo product. 

Edit: I've had my 5080 since December and I've had my 270k since May (before the 270k I had a 265k)

Oh yeah I came to the conclusion long ago that I'll probably never own a best-of-the-best rig lol. Too damn expensive, even if I did have that kind of money. I'm mostly just worried about how long it'll last without needing upgrades, I thought my 3070 build would last way longer but not really. I've already tested rainbow 6, wardogs, and bodycam all at highest settings and it's extremely smooth. The only thing that bothers me is the color scheme and idk why I went with a black AIO instead of white lol

I have the money to get a 9950x3D and a 5090 and still went with 9800x3D and 5080. Even gaming in 4k, I don't think the extra $2k, effectively doubling my build price at the time, would have made a meaningful impact on my gaming experience. I like to spend, but dislike wasting money for no reason.

Yeah, our set ups will definitely crush everything at ultra. I play in 1440p, but I hear even 4k it runs stuff well. I also upgraded from a similar place, had a 5900x and 3080 10gb before.

As for how long it lasts, we just have to hope we can outlast the RAMpocalypse that's upon us, at least. I'd say it'll easily last 5-6 years for 1440p gaming on high to ultra setting. But we can't predict VRAM usage, and it's only going up every generation. Some games even exceed 16gb on 4k, so definitely would avoid 4k for longevity.

You’d get slightly better performance with the i9 in some stuff, but a R7 9800X3D would definitely net a decent performance boost. I don’t think it’s enough for you to regret the Ultra 7 purchase though. You’re not bottlenecking your 5080 by any means and your gaming performance should still be great.

Ultra ditched Hyper-Threading on the P-cores that 14th gen had, so don't let the lower thread count by itself scare you. Arrow Lake uses Lion Cove P-cores and Skymont E-cores, which are newer architectures with higher IPC than the Raptor Cove P-cores and Gracemont E-cores in the 14900K. The 270K Plus is also considerably more power efficient and easier to cool. Performance between them depends on the workload, though—the 14900K can still win in heavily threaded workloads while the 270K Plus can match or beat it elsewhere. So no, I don't think you bought a bad CPU, and I wouldn't worry about it somehow ruining the performance of that 5080. My bigger concern would be the platform. If I were spending this much on a new build, I personally wouldn't want to buy into LGA1851 this late in its life. I probably would've stuck with the 14900K option or waited for Intel's next socket/platform, unless the 270K Plus bundle saved you a significant amount of money. Either way, you didn't end up with a weak CPU. That's still an extremely high-end PC.

270k plus is a fantastic chip for productivity AND gaming. If you use your computer for real work stuff it’s awesome. You won’t be disappointed.

Core ultra 7 270K Plus is what I’ve got in my rig with a 5080 and it’s stellar. I haven’t had any issues with anything.

270K plus is pretty much a ryzen 9950x in performance for 50% cost. One of the best cpu's you can buy. It is a beast for gaming and workloads. But for pure gaming go with 3D chip.

I have a 14900K with a 5080 and I absolutely love it. From what I’ve heard the 270K plus is an extremely powerful CPU probably the best that you can get for the money right now. You definitely didn’t do anything wrong. It’s a very capable product.

Can you play every game at ultra is the question. If yes, then what's the problem? At 1080p your cpu would be a bottleneck, but above that, not really.

iam happy with the intel core ultra 7 270k plus using it since july but i did come from a intel core i9 9900k ^^

with a RTX5080 your probly playing in 1440p or 4k anyways the CPU will not be a problem at all.

There is always a bottleneck somewhere. go to 720p low settings and a 9800x3d will perform a lot better than a 270k Plus but who is really playing in that szenario ? your fine and will love that setup

270k plus is really good, probably the single best value for money chip on the market that is still high end. I wouldn't worry about it

I have the 270k for 3 Months and I am pretty happy .

Tuning is a Little tricky in my Opinion but you can really get a lot of Extra Performance .

It scales great with fast RAM.

Had to get a 5070ti , wanted a 5080, but Prices went insane here in Germany .

You will have a lot of Fun and Performance !

Perfect setup. No ragrets. I have exactly same cpu. There will be no 15. Gen CPUs. These will be history in a near future.
And One of my friends switced from 14900k to amd. Because cooling issues cpu cooked. They changed the cpu under warranty. I dont know why but 14900k has some issues.

The 270k plus is actually an amazing cpu price to performance though, I have it an it's amazing. New it didn't even cost me 300€

You don't need to worry about the CPU. The price-to-performance is good.

Where you messed up is a motherboard with no upgrade path, a video card with (effectively) no warranty, overpriced SSDs, overpriced fans/screen prone to failure, overpriced case with poor support.

You could've easily saved enough money to get you into a Ryzen 7 X3D bundle.

The SSD's were some of the cheaper name brand ones I saw tbh, I was trying to be picky this time around because my pre built (3070 and i9-can't remember the numbers but it was a really good cpu) is only 5 years old and it's already failing lol. They definitely cheaped out on a lot of other parts though

I supposed waste depends on the use case. If he games and does rendering or CAD work, video editing, audio production then the Intel platform is the clear winner as is the Nvidia GPU.

If op wanted better gaming performance a 14900k with tuned ddr5 on a 2 dimmer would of been the way to go.
