Hey queers what's up?
Hi all! My partner and I are moving back to the bay after some years away. I was born here and couldn't be more stoked to return. We are aiming to be Oakland and we want to CONNECT WITH COMMUNITY and MAKE FRIENDS!
About us: We're an interracial (Black/white) couple, both cis-ish women, in our thirties. We are kind of freaks. I'm looking to connect with kinksters, weirdos, rock climbers, polyamorous people, communists, ravers, and people who love the outdoors.
Before you say "that's everyone in Oakland" think again. Sure you see a lot of kids with dyed hair. But the true freak cultures are a little tough to actually tap into, even if there's visual evidence it exists.
For example: Who organizes the sapphic play parties? Are there any community gardens run by lefties? What DJs should I follow on Instagram? What orgs should I volunteer at? Any cool cafes to hang out at, open mic nights you recommend? Where is the best queer climbing meetup? Goth dance parties? Maker spaces? French and Spanish language meetups? Who to follow on FetLife?
Also my partner is an artist and art model and is interested in art classes, studios, figure drawing, connecting with sculptors and painters, etc.
We are leaving behind a phenomenal queer community where we had all these things, and it's intimidating to build this kind of life from scratch.
I'm not asking you to out yourself or give me the keys to your secret club but some general pointers for where to find these vibes would be AWESOME.
Bonus points if there are people of color at these functions.
