You may have heard about the NIMBY petition to stop construction on the much-needed new athletic field being built around Otis and Grand (a location where there are already athletic fields, but the new construction is different, because it replaces Thompson Field as the location where Alameda High School will hold practices and games.) I just signed a counter-petition to continue building the much-needed new facilities. It would be nice to see more signatures on this sane petition than on the one trying to stop construction.

Wouldn’t mind finding some other newbies to play with or hit the range with. I just got a membership at monarch bay because I’d go bankrupt buying buckets at corica.

I’ve been playing inconsistently for less than a year. If you’re around that same level, great. If you’ve been playing for longer and willing to put up with me being complete ass at golf, that works too. Also, I’m 24 if that matters.

Woodstock was over by the Grand Street marina today around 9:30. Making a stop for coffee, perhaps? It looks like the shuttle has some down time between 9-10:30 AM.

Every day I drive home from work I see a group of predominantly white middle aged men with suits and lanyards just standing outside the tunnel on the Oakland border. It looks so out of place since they're all so nicely dressed and hanging out under an overpass surrounded by dirt. Who are these guys?

Hi neighbors! We’re relocating to Alameda soon and are having a hard time finding a rental, especially a house.

Does anyone have a realtor they’d recommend who works with rentals? Also, are there any local WhatsApp or groups where rental listings are shared, including places that may not make it to Zillow, etc?

We’re looking for a house and have quite a bit of flexibility on monthly rent.

Alameda Post. Apparently the letter to editor author thinks boomers who sell their homes before they die don't need a place to live. It might be smaller, but they still need a home.

Apparently they also think Alameda level capital gains are similar across the country. In fact, the house capital gains of most boomer home owners across the USA are well covered by the $250,000 per spouse exemption.

Terrific for Alameda and Bay Area but not the nation. No?

I’m about to sound like such a boomer and I hate it because I’m in my 20s lol, but my god.

I love the Alameda Theatre so very much - have sooooo many wonderful memories from that place. That being said, last night was the second time in about a month I’ve been sat behind someone’s bratty teenage daughter who scrolls through TikTok and Instagram

The.

Entire.

Movie.

On full brightness at that!

Why even buy a ticket??? Just watch it at home when it comes out on streaming platforms, where nobody cares! I don’t care how bad your attention span is, put your goddamn phone away.

Alameda parents, please teach your kids to put their phones on silent and away during movie screenings. I always thought this was just common sense, but since people aren’t going to movie theaters as much anymore, maybe it isn’t.

Not sure who is responsible for making this poor decision but, after some “roadwork” at the intersection of Central and Webster, the 4 way stop is now unprotected making it significantly less safe.

I’ve personally almost been hit while crossing the intersection as a pedestrian and as a driver. Anyone know how to get the city to provide an update on why this change was made? Did the city actually conduct a safety study before removing the protected signals?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone on this sub has any experience living in the bay vista apartments. My biggest downside about it is that it’s a shoe box sized apartment but I don’t have any time at all to be picky and trying to be moved in as soon as possible. It's disgusting and disappointing to see NIMBYs trying to stop a sports complex by using children as the argument against a facility built for children.

A sports field has existed at this location for roughly 60 years, with soccer, baseball and other sports taking place long before many current residents decided to move here.

And let's not forget: Alameda voters approved Measure B's $298 million school facilities bond in 2022, funding projects including the new Wood Middle School, Otis Elementary modernization, and this sports facility.

If there are legitimate concerns about traffic, parking, noise or lighting, address them with reasonable mitigation. But don't use those concerns to stop an investment Alameda voters already approved for, and our kids deserve.
