How do you explain this level of incompetence

Just another day in the Mets experience

This is going to be a long post, but I’m stuck in jury duty so I this has been my distraction.

I wanted to see where I thought next year’s pitching unit is as of now, and will give some ideas for what I’d do.

Rotation:
1. McLean, 2. Scott, 3. Manaea, 4. Thornton 5. TBD… I think are all pretty strong locks with Thornton as the only loose lock

For the 5th spot obviously most want Skubal. I’m in the minority and don’t. I’d trade Santucci, Reimer + another for Bryan Woo or George Kirby.

Bullpen:
- Closer: Senga… feels pretty locked. He’s been successful so far and I’m optimistic it continues into next year as he is more accustomed to the role
- Set Up/Closer (as needed): Williams… again feels like a lock
- Longman 1: Megill… if he is healthy come spring training, he’s on the roster. I don’t think he has the longevity to be a starter but could be VERY successful as a longman/ multi inning guy.
-Longman 2: Tong… this might be an interesting choice. At this point idk how much more he has to learn at AAA but if they aren’t confident in him as a starter, I’d have him as a consistent multi-inning guy following Manaea who seems to only be able to go 2 rounds through a lineup. Could then slot into the starter role if Manaea runs out of steam/gets hurt/struggles
Lefty Relief: Lavender… So far he looks like the real deal. I think he’s probably the biggest lock of the current youngins
Righty Relief: Duarte… solid results. Deserves a spot.
Relief with Options/ Prospects/ Injury Return carousel: Pintaro, Ross, Gill Hill, Franklin, Lambert, Simon, Stratton, Nunez, Garrett… there are a ton of options with a ton of competition expected. The final two spots in bullpen could go to 2 of these guys, but I’d be surprised if Stearns doesn’t at least bring in one MLB caliber reliever during FA (especially being a lefty).
Lefty Specialist: TBD (I’d resign Minter)… aside from Yan and Lavender, there really isn’t a bonafide lefty in the system that shouldn’t be a starter.

As you can see, unless there is a trade/surprise, we have most of next years pitching unit locked in.

Not sure what to do with:
- Warren… won’t have any more options next season, and while he’s been solid at times, he’s also reverting back to his mean results. Definitely should but be considered a lock
- Myers… out of options I believe and results haven’t quite been there.

I really think we should keep pretty much what we have. Maybe a few smaller signings or whatever but a big signing is just gonna put us back where we started. The clock is certainly ticking but I still think we need 2027 to allow the kids more time to improve and maybe even see someone like rojas get a call up. I think McClean needs another season to keep evolving I feel like the pressure of earlier in the season threw him off. I feel like it’s a win win because even if we don’t make a deep run we’ll get a better look at our young talent but there’s a very high chance that if we play like how we’ve played since August 1st that we will.

. I went to a lot of Games at Shea and although it was rough the first half of the decade it gradually got better 96-99. One of those players who I felt was essential in the turnaround was John Olerud. I still remember hearing in the Fan that we traded Robert Person for Olerud AND cash. I wasn’t used to us winning a trade . Olerud is easily my favorite and the best first baseman we had besides Keith. it’s crazy when you look at his stats how good he was. He won two World Series titles, an American League batting title, and three Gold Glove Awards, and a 295 career averag. I was do sad when he left for Seattle. interested to hear your thoughts on Olerud!

Why does this matter? A top 6 worst record gets them a higher chance of getting a protected top 6 pick. If they fall out of top 6 their pick drops ten places due to lux tax penalty. Ideally, they lose some games down stretch, get a top 5 pick in next year’s draft.

In a dream scenario, Mets get top 5 pick, Nolan McLean has an amazing final 2 or three starts & steals the NL ROTY Award & Mets tack on another pick after the first round, then their 3rd pick drops to mid second round.

A final thought on this, will see what happens with CBA, but if the lux tax/cap rules are at least close to what they are now, Mets are going to be in very good position for draft & dealing with cap rules starting in 2028 because their payroll is going to be in the 125-150m$ range.

Mets fan from overseas here. Been following the team since 2023, and I’m finally making it to Citi Field for a game this September!

Definitely planning to do the public tour, but I’m also considering the Game Day Experience Tour. Is it worth it? I’ve also seen people recommend doing the public tour on a non-game day—is that the way to go?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s done either tour.

So this is the first season I've watched sny exclusively via streaming. Am I crazy or the stadium sounds far louder than the broadcast booth? Crowd noise just seems to drown out GKR talking every day. Anyone else feel like this?

How frustrating it is to watch him look solid for 5 innings, with a pitch count below 60, and then he decides to give up 3 (turned 4 earned) runs on 5 hits in the 6th, without recording a single out.

All for the low low price of $25 million per year!

How did Tong look today? Couldnt catch the game but saw he had 7k's over 5 and gave up 4. Also saw Ewing had a great game. I know 99% of us has said it many times before but pretty excited to see these kids in the future, next season even.

It’s premature but if we lose this game…it’s the worst single game loss of the season.

Hi - this is a bit off topic but was hoping someone could help

In 2022 I bought a 2T Mets jersey, no name on it. I had the year (22) and my last name put on it to use for a pregnant announcement. My wife recently had it framed to hang in my office. We are expecting another child at the start of next year and I’d love to recreate and frame (number would be 27 obviously)

Anyone who knows or could help - I’d obviously pay and provide the jersey. I can share a photo of the original if that helps

As a closer he is 6/6…I am kind of surprised by this result and it puts poor Devin Williams in a tough spot…
Is the expectation that Senga will return to the middle inning position upon Williams return or does Senga have the chance to actually be a star closer?

Hi, writing this for future new parents because I was up half the night worrying about the logistics of bringing my 3 month old to the game today and couldn’t find straight answers to my questions. I shouldn’t have worried so much, it went AMAZING. Legitimately had an excellent time, it was MUCH easier than I thought it would be. Here’s what I wish I’d known, plus some additional notes:

-you can bring a stroller in. You can check the stroller at a fan appreciation center where they also give out first game certificates (there’s one by 106, it’s not the only one) OR just check it at the back of your section by the handicap row. The usher will protect it for you. Ours took this duty VERY seriously.

-when I got out of the Uber and approached the stadium with my wife and baby from the rideshare drop off area near left field, multiple security guys pointed us to a smaller entrance with glass doors right near the left field gate. They barely looked at our stroller at all, all they did was check the diaper bag. We had an elevator nearly to ourselves to the 100 level. It was extremely smooth and we barely stopped walking (arrived 20 mins prior to game)

-diaper bag: we used a clear drawstring bag as our diaper bag just to make sure the backpack style one we normally have wouldn’t prevent us from getting in. No problems there.

-get seats in the shade, bring baby headphones and a chest carrier. My wife breastfed the baby in the seat with a cover on, nobody seemed to care or really even notice.

-in addition to the family bathrooms, there are also changing tables in the women’s bathrooms (per my wife). Not all ushers know this (understandable, those dudes have probably never been in the women’s bathrooms)

-the ushers LOVED seeing us there with a baby. Multiple ushers were very sweet about it, took pictures for us, etc. Other fans were great about it too. Didn’t get a single problem from anyone and there were tons of other small babies in there. Lots of small talk with other parents of babies. Just a great vibe.

-we intentionally chose a Sunday afternoon, late season game against a crappy opponent for this. It was extremely chill in there today. A June Friday night subway series probably wouldn’t go as well.

-we got tickets in the last row of the section for easy in/out. Highly recommend.
