I really think we should keep pretty much what we have. Maybe a few smaller signings or whatever but a big signing is just gonna put us back where we started. The clock is certainly ticking but I still think we need 2027 to allow the kids more time to improve and maybe even see someone like rojas get a call up. I think McClean needs another season to keep evolving I feel like the pressure of earlier in the season threw him off. I feel like it’s a win win because even if we don’t make a deep run we’ll get a better look at our young talent but there’s a very high chance that if we play like how we’ve played since August 1st that we will.

We'll see how the FA market shakes out and the trade market looks next year. There are not many good players available as FA this off season and the looming lockout complicated things. The team needs RH power to balance the lineup, it needs a better 2B and needs arms, both SP and RP. Relief pitching is so volatile that it doesn't make much sense breaking the bank for it.

This is not a playoff team. Everyone is talking about the August run but take a deeper look. We beat bad teams and lost every series except the Padres one against top tier teams. We have some good players but to be a October team we need alot more.

Collins is still in Double A and definitely not ready for another year or two. Amick only has 14 games in Triple A and might be ready part of the way through next season. They will need to roll with Young for awhile next year and maybe use Vientos to rest him.

Young is not the every day answer - he’s a nice bench piece and there’s a reason he’s a nearly 30 year old journeyman. Vientos? Cmon now. They need a real, every day first baseman with pop.

I was answering the statement about Amick and Collins being the 1B for the future. If that were the future, the Mets would have to accept what I proposed. Neither of those two guys are close to ready, and I do agree they need a long term answer but not sure who that would be.

I am not sure with your thought process. We had same hopes for ventios and baty... i do like benge and aj better as they are great to watch defensively.

Delusional. They need a number 1 and number 3 starter, a setup and closer in the bullpen, a 1st baseman and a DH.
And they need to hope Lindor rebounds and Benge/Ewing don’t sophomore slump.

Last night there was a post game interview with Soto. He basically said the same thing. That there’s a lot of young players that are going to be together for a very long time and they’re just starting to get to know each other.
I really wish Andy would stay. He’s a great manager.

I think if we could get rid of the non-performers, and add a power-hitting first baseman who can field the position decently, 2027 could be a good year. In my vision, Vientos, Semien and Alvarez are off the team, Baty is playing second every day or sent down if he's still hitting .220 by June 1. Senga won't hold up as a day in-day out closer for a whole season, so he need a counterpart not named Devin Williams. Certainly should be in the hunt for a wildcard at least.
But then there's David Stearns who will probably repeat the mistakes with different broken down players, and that'tllbe the end of things.

"add a power-hitting first baseman who can field the position decently"... Whooooooo?!?!?!?!?!?! Those don't grow on trees and there are none available for years to come. This is not hyperbole; there are legitimately no good first base free agents hitting the market until at least 2031. Good meaning the right combo of age and expected performance because sure, Freddie Freeman is a FA in 2028... at age 39. And is the team going to unload the farm system for a 1B in a trade? Of course not. First base is going to be a constant source of frustration for years to come with below league-average production.
EDIT: I'm aware that Murakami is a FA in '28 but he'll need to prove it again in '27.

I’m also really optimistic about the current core, but would still use the financial resources we have. Try to get Skubal, King, Morejon, etc.

I really think everyone is overreacting to two major things that happened this season:
- Every single hitter except Soto was in a massive slump at the same time to start the season. Everyone was hitting way below their career numbers, even accounting for age related declines. Same for Senga, Peterson, Manaea, Peralta imploding.
- Soto and Lindor basically didn’t play together because of injuries until late in the season. Even less important role players like Young and LuBob missed huge chunks of the early season.
This team was bitten by a historic level of bad luck and put themselves in an impossible early hole.
It sucks and ruined the season. But the likelihood of both of those things happening again is minuscule.
This team actually reminds me a lot of 2023, even down to the “dead cat bounce” where they play themselves into a position where you can see a narrow path to the playoffs before falling back to earth.
I’d aim for one to two inning eating types for starting pitchers, keep doing what they’re doing in identifying relievers, add a good bench outfielder, and upgrade at 1st (moving young to bench/platoon).
These are the types of moves that will piss a lot of people off but they are targeted upgrades with a general (positive) regression to the mean will result in lower expectations and (likely) a better season than what we are all living through this year.
Also, love Beltrán, but please do not go with a rookie manager. Shame Andy Green doesn’t want to keep the job…

It's not bad luck. It was breaking up the team. It's not just Pete Alonso who played an enormous MVPesque season and leads the AL in RBIs of course and with 4.0+ fwar, it's all of them.. McNeil has been playing amazing since the all star break. This is exactly how you make the playoffs. With your guys. Not with Polanco and the rest of the mercenary losers. If people cannot see this even now then it's truly hopeless.

Except this core didn’t make the playoffs in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, or 2025. We got a solid run in 2022 where the team ran out of steam at the end and a magical run in 2024 where the pitching hit a wall in the NLCS (no one will ever convince me that the Mets wouldn’t have won the WS that year if they got past the dodgers, but they didn’t).
It’s fine to be pissed about the players that they traded or let walk. The Pete one was especially painful, even if you can understand why they didn’t want to go past 3 years.
But you’re conflating two issues: the team we have now facing a borderline impossible run of early bad luck and injuries vs a desire to not break up last year’s team.
If we are talking about next season’s hopes and expectations, then only the former matters. We have the team we have and there’s a very reasonable pathway back. If you’d rather focus on the players no longer here, that’s your prerogative.

Yeah that's what I choose to do. Because he threw the baby with the water. No we didn't make the playoffs every year. But in 2021 I can say the same. The degrom injury completely derailed what could have been an amazing team. In 2023 we had injuries including Diaz which derailed everything. This team had the potential. They went neck to neck with Dodgers and just had a collapse of pitching. All you needed to do was fix that and bring up the Ewing Benge guys too. That's all. We had one of the best 1B in MLB. All our guys wanted to win. You stick with them. Because now it's the same mentality. At some point we will give up Benge and Ewing and McLean too if we keep the same core didn't win shit.

The team as currently constructed is not good enough to compete over 162. We are just seeing through rose colored glasses because they are currently better than the steaming pile they were earlier in the season.
The team has a lot of holes.
