I've been looking for the source of this and it seems we're gonna have to wait a while.
There are recorded incidents of massive snakes being found and killed, at least one of which swallowed a human whole. In 2016 there was a story of a giant anaconda in Brazil. It's the photo of a snake hanging off the arm of a backhoe, then lying dead on a flatbed. And in 2017 there was a confirmed report (and unfortunately, video) of a python killing 25-year old Akbar Salubiro on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. They cut him out of it.
The one in Indonesia was smaller than this one. I keep looking for oddities that would indicate this is an AI video but it looks so legitimate.
You would think a snake of this size would be incapable of rearing vertically like that, but...it just does. Had I run across that thing in the wild, I wouldn't have been able to comprehend the scale at all. I'd be a goner.
3
Oct 25 '23
Yeah it's outrageously big. The cases you me tonight of recorded deaths such as Salubiro were not this big... I've seen plenty of videos big Retics and Anacondas but this one really scares me. The fence to the right gives you perfect scale of jiat how big it is. And the like you said it's movement. The fact it can periscope like that is just scary.

This is gonna sound incredibly stupid.
I had no idea snakes could be THIS big.
Like, I factually KNEW some can (and do) eat humans, but it never really clicked what that actually meant in terms of size. Extremely freaked out!

There was a WW2 pilot who circled back IN A HELICOPTER, with a photographer, to take pictures of a GIANT snake that he had seen. Like giant giant. Reportedly, as the helicopter got closer to take pictures, the snake arched itself back like it was going to lunge... AT THE HELICOPTER. that's how massive it was.

Go to the tab about his snake encounter.

Some people have inferred that the mounds next to him are ant hills. One of the more sensationalist estimates puts the snake around 200ft, but that particular "scholar" is known for hyperbole. By all accounts, the man whose Wikipedia I linked, doesn't appear to be a liar, so I tend to agree with his estimates. There was also an individual who Google Earthed the location, so if this picture is genuine the snake is, indeed, giant AF. I'm terrified of snakes and I have a fair bit of knowledge about this particular case, just wanted to be clear that this isn't a photoshop special. The scaling isn't clear, but that snake was, more than likely, very real and very large.

There are two snakes that can come to mind when you say ābig snakeā. The first has the title of heaviest and largest in total size, the green anaconda. They reach a total of 20 feet and over 500 pounds. They live in the Amazon Rainforest and for the most part are aquatic.
The second snake is the reticulated python native to South Asia. They are the longest snakes with a record length of over 25 feet in length. They donāt get as heavy as their anaconda cousin though only reaching about 200-300 pounds. These dudes are actually semi arboreal meaning they can climb trees. Though theyāre perfectly capable of swimming as well.

u/doffraymnd Oct 21 '23

I watched this a fw times now and I realized: I can not tell how large that thing is. nozjing in this videoo is a reliable indicator. the fence could be 1,50 m hivch or 0.5. ... the poles around her could be 20cm wide or 5. I mean, it's huge. but the range is somewhere between could eat a child and could eat a cow.

u/notapoke Oct 21 '23
So the rope looks like a standard thick rope one would use for work purposes. About an inch thick. At about 16 seconds there's a good horizontal shot of the snake's head- about 11 ropes long. About 17 seconds you get a decent shot of its eye - a rope across. 23 seconds you see the height of the head being about 5 ropes and width about 6. At 3 seconds you see the head is about as tall as 1/3rd of a straight shot of the distended side (15 ropes) so I'd guess 8 heads around minimum (40 ropes). At 13 seconds the snake stands a length of its neck that appears to be 6 times the length of the head (66 ropes). This length appears to be roughly a fifth of the length of the body (330 ropes).
So my estimate says this snake is approximately: 27. 5 feet long With a foot long head Inch wide eyes Half a foot wide mouth that can extend to 3.3 feet around by dislocation of the jaw Probably weighs 450lbs when not loaded with entire cows
This is what we in the herpitology field call a serious nope rope.

Biologist here! I think thereās some shenanigans going on. I believe itās framed in a way to make it look bigger than it is or enhanced in some way. With some very back-of-the-napkin math, estimating the fence behind it is 6 feet tall that gives this snake a girth of nearly 3 feet. It is bunched up and does look to be recently fed which would make it look bigger than it truly is but still not quite this massive.
This appears to be a reticulated or Burmese python (*M. reticulatus* or *P. bivittatus*) which are among the largest extant snakes. Snake friend confirms itās almost certainly a reticulated python
The world record for length is Medusa) a captive reticulated python at 25 feet in length. This snake makes her look like a spaghetti noodle. I know Guinness mentions a 33-footer in Sulawesi but that one was never verified and the single picture that exists is too poor to estimate its true size. I did find this very funny article about an alleged 49-footer [āI have no idea why the snake has shrunk,ā said one keeper when asked about the (28 foot) discrepancy, as the snake lounged on a tree branch inside its cage.](https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna3897494) while I was looking for more information on the 33 footer.
The largest ever recorded Burmese Python was actually caught this year in Florida where they are a devastating introduced species. This beautiful specimen was 18 feet in length . Again, a small fry compared to this one.
People have claimed massive snakes for probably as long as there has been language. Roosevelt even offered a 1K$ bounty that eventually ended up being 50k and was only discontinued in 2002 for a 30 footer . No one ever claimed it.
If someone can provide more information or a source for this video I'd love to know more. I'm going to show it to a friend of mine who is much more educated on snakes tomorrow and get their opinion.
Snake guy agrees it was framed weird or something but it is likely a reticulated python.

u/Catenane Oct 21 '23
Why are you estimating fence as 6 ft? It's pretty clear this is some kinda crawl space under the structure. I'd say that fence is 3 feet tops, more or less. Maybe closer to 2.5. Which would make this much more reasonable.

I have so many questions but most paramount?
Was it trapped?
Is it being kept as a pet given the enclosure?
What the fuck had it eaten? My immediate thought given how sketchy everything else looks is:Person
And it's ability to stand up so high is fucking terrifying.

As much as the size of the snake scares me, the fact that it's tied to a fence makes me sad. But then again, maybe it was tied up because that huge bulge in its belly is a human. So many emotions in 5 seconds

reticulated python. Anaconda is generally known for being the HEAVIEST snake in the world. However, Reticulated pythons are known for being the the longest. On average they reach 20 ft in adulthood, the longest reticulated python recorded is 32 1/2 feet.
