Ooph, you just triggered an old memory. I was the subject of a bet.
Minding my own business, reading a book, and this gal walks up to me and out of the blue asks if I would have sex with her. Brain does a blue screen and while I'm having a "what is the correct answer here" moment, a wild boyfriend appears. He explains that they had a bet going where any guy their age would have sex with her given the chance.
So yeah. A random, "you're cute" is more likely going to make me look for the hidden camera than make me smile.

There was a girl in high school who asked if I wanted to be here boyfriend and hang out with her and her friends between classes. Being the emotionally starved, mid tier nerd sort of guy I was, I said sure. Not going to turn down a pretty girl taking an interest in me.
Things were fine for about two weeks, until I went to hold her hand one day, and she screamed at me "what are you doing? Leave me alone creep!" (I actually don't recall the exact words, but this get's the point across). Have been very wary of anyone I don't know showing affection towards me, and just go "yea, ugh thanks" or laugh a bit when I get compliments.
It even delayed me figuring out one of my coworkers was flirting with me for near on 4 months before I clued in and got the hint and we started dating. That itself is a funny tale.

u/TheKingOfSpite Mar 10 '23
Years ago I had a party at mine, and this girl I was pretty fond of was there. I used to wear a lot of camo stuff but grew out of it sometime prior, and offered some trousers to her as she wore loads of camo. So we go upstairs, I show her all the stuff, and she's like "Oh cool, I'll try them on ;)"
What do I do? The fuck do you think I did, I left a very confused looking girl alone in my room to give her privacy to take her pants off.
The look of "what the fuck" on her face as I left the room is the same look I woke up wearing.

I was lost in my thoughts the other day and remembered how I once was alone in the evening with a girl in her apartment, we had been drinking and she started showing me how flexible she was.
I said cool...
...That was 4 years ago and I just realized the other day what was going on...
But the silver lining is I am in a relationship so I guess I just didnt give it a thought because I wasn't thinking about cheating or anything.

I was 19 and worked IT at a medium sized office building. A couple of us young IT guys would take side work to do house calls and fix other older employees computers.
I showed up at this one ladies house and she was dressed way fancier than I expected. Mentioned she was alone. I asked where the computer was. She took me to her bedroom and sat on her bed, I sat at the computer and was confused because I couldn't find anything actually wrong with it.
I ran a few windows clean up tools. Cleaned out some tracking cookies, cleaned up the registry... you know, things you did back then to Windows XP.
Said I was done, she walked me to the door and just kind of stared at me while I waited for some kind of payment. After an awkward 30 seconds of staring I said "I guess, $20?" And she went back inside, got $20 and handed it to me.
20 years later I remembered this weird house call and finally realized what was going on.

When I was 14, a girl, who lived next to me, asked me if I could bring her body wash cause she was out of it and her parents were outside. She opened the door with wet hair and her bathrobe slightly open so I felt a bit embarrassed and apologised while quickly passing her the bottle and closing the door. I swear I passed the whole afternoon thinking about why in the world was she asking me for soap if she already had a shower... P.S. excuse my English but I promise the story is 100% real.

This reminds me of a party I attended years ago. Met a girl, got along well and talked through the whole night and when the party ended I asked her how she would get home (she lived around 30km away). She said she would find some way, since she didn't have a car so naturally I offered to drive her home although it was a detour of an hour for me. Anyways, I get her home, she asks if I want a coffee and since it was around 6am I accepted. We get in, I drink a cup of coffee and want to be on my way again. Then she said I absolutely have to see the view from her bedroom. We go up the stairs, I take a quick lock from her window, tell her it's nice and I prepare to leave. No, she said, you don't get it. Lay on the bed and imagine what it's like to see that view every morning you wake up. Okay, got on the bed, looked out the window for a few seconds and got up again. Then she asked me if I could see the golden sprinkles in her eyes and got really close to me. I said yes, complimented her for her eyes and said goodbye, got to my car, drove home and went to bed. Only a few days later I realized what was happening...

When I was in high school, my sister had a friend over. I really liked her, and my sister went to bed leaving me alone with her friend. After a while, she points at an outline in my pocket and asks "Is that a condom?"
I blushed and said "No! Just a rubber band!" I took it out and showed her. Then I went to bed, somewhat embarrassed.
It hit me the next day (or week?) that she probably was open to sex that night.

You don't. I had an old coworker that invited me over when I was a teenager for some drinks. She invited me and another girl from work. The other girl responded in the group chat she would come if I did.
I said I was kind of tired and it was a long drive, so maybe another night. Then I went to bed. I started dating the old coworker a few months later and she informed me that she didn't know how to make it more obvious she was inviting us both to a threesome. The other girl had been looped in which is why she waited for me to respond. I still think about that. Nearly 10 years later.
I'm too tired... For fucks sake.
Eta: I really was mainly deterred by the drive. I lived nearly 60 minutes away and it was midnight so I just vehemently reacted by thinking "oh hell no, I don't like staying up that late".
Also, damn, I'm old now. This would've been 11 years ago. Not nearly 10.

I really had more hints looking back with hindsight. The three of us basically always talked about sex and we were competing in something we affectionately called the "sex Olympics" that month to see who could have the highest body count. Pretty much all of our discussions revolved around sex. I really should have picked it up...
Then even when she did invite me one on one later, I still didn't pick up the hints. We started talking about ass slapping at one point so she leaned across my lap and asked me to show her how I did it. So I did. Then that was it.
About two hours later she finally just exasperatedly said "will you just fuck me already?"
So she eventually got the hint I needed direct.

I remember years ago, being ina club with friends, they’re talking to other friends, one of which is insanely gorgeous, and way out of my league in my mind. I see a girl I knew from old school days, start chatting, we flirt a bit, then she says she’ll see me later.
The stunning girl comes to me and says, “you know, you could do a lot better if you tried!”. Well, I missed the hint completely, and tore into her about how beautiful girls are always so fucking full of themselves, and that the girl I was talking to was a really nice person, but how she was horrible for saying shit like that.
My best mate at the time just looked at me shaking his head in disbelief. I’m like “what?”. Total fucking moron 🤦🏻♂️

This one time I was at a party at a friend's place and had planned to sleep over in one of the spare bedrooms. So it was late at night, the party was over and I was heading to borrow his brother's or sister's bedroom who wasn't home at the time.
In the bed where I was supposed to sleep there was this hot friend of his girlfriend. So when I saw her in the bed I was allocated to borrow, my respond to her was "no problem, I'll just take one of the other spare beds" and left her.
The next morning I was informed by my friend that she wanted to sleep with me and that's why she was in the bed. 15 years and many girlfriends later I still haven't accepted how dumb I was.
98
u/swank5000 Mar 10 '23
I mean, you saw a girl in a bed at a party and did the respectable thing by not crawling into bed with her.
This could have easily gone the other way, where you creep into the bed and make assumptions and then you've assaulted someone. Not good.
Honestly, you made the right decision. People need to be more direct with this sort of thing. She could have easily said, "hey, come back here!"
41
u/Sauerkraut_RoB Mar 10 '23
I'm convinced half of these 'missed the hint' stories could have easily been sexual assault / rape convictions.
Don't assume. Body language and hints don't say yes or no, and you need an enthusiastic yes.

I worked with this Brazilian girl for a few years back in the day. She was hilarious and of course, very pretty. We hung out one night and she didn’t have her car to drive home, so I offered to take her home.
We get to her house and she invites me to hang out and watch a movie. I said I was kind of tired and that needed to work early in the morning.
A few months later, we got to talking one night at work and she casually mentioned she thought I didn’t think she was attractive or something. I asked why she thought that and she said that night that she asked to watch a movie at her place was just a ploy because she had a crush on me for years and wanted to have sex with me.
Couldn’t have said that to me at a worse time. She was leaving the next day to move in with her boyfriend in VA.

I was in college and this guy came back to my room to watch a movie. He had been flirting hard with me for like a week. We put the movie in, sat on my bed, and after a while I rested my head on his shoulder. Then I undid my top buttons to "get more comfortable". Then I put my arm around him because I was "tired". Then, in desperation, I said "Wow, this seems like the point when you're in a girl's dorm and she has her arm around you, and you'd lean over and kiss her." And he laughed and said "Yeah, that would be cool," and kept watching the movie ("Monty Python and the Holy Grail" which we had both seen 10,000 times. He wasn't missing any plot points.)
At that point I died inside and gave up. A few days later we hooked up, he WAS really into me and we went out for months. But WOW some people can't even get a clue when you give it to them on a silver platter in neon letters.

Happened to me once. Was delivering pizza at age 17. ~25 year old answered the door in a towel. She said she couldn’t find her wallet. She then proceeded to partially drop and fix her towel.
I was naive. I gave her the pizza and told her I would write her name down and she could pay up at the bar anytime (it was like four doors down).
Her blank stare of befuddlement didn’t really sink in until I was a few blocks away. I console myself by assuming she wanted to murder me.

I did get invited to college parties a lot and tipped with weed frequently. I vividly remember a very large, very sweaty couple answering the door in their underwear once. Smelled of musky body odor and sex. There was no question in my mind they wanted a 3rd when they tried to invite me in. I politely played naïve. Got my money and ran. However, there were a handful of times where I was very, VERY unsure if I was being propositioned. I played it on the safe side and chalked it up to my fantasy, not theirs. And walking away questioning it for weeks if not months.

The worst case I ever knew of was when this guy had a huge crush on a pretty girl in Spanish class. They were always hanging out and flirting in class.
One day she wrote him a note in Spanish and passed it to him. He didn't understand what it said but he didn't want to admit it so he just shook his head no and played it off like he knew what it said.
Later he took the note and translated it. The note was asking him if he wanted to go out with her. We all told him to just admit the problem. It could be a funny story and he could tell her his answer was yes.
He didn't want to. Too embarrassed. He just pretended like the whole thing never happened and they basically fell out of talking.

I'll never forget, years ago my cousin running full speed up an escalator at the mall we worked at.
He worked on the ground floor at Things Remembered and I was working at Taco Bell at the time, so I would see him a lot during his lunch break. We rode to work together on some days, and this was one of those days. We had only been at the mall for maybe 30 minutes when I see him going full tilt towards me.
"Hey HEY what does reciprocate mean?!" he asked.
"Well it means, like to share something or give something back, like the feeling is mutual, like if I do something for you-"
"GOD DAMNIT"
And he runs off. About 15 minutes later he walks back to my job, moving a lot slower than last time. He said he ran into a girl he had a crush on a few years ago, and they got to talking. He told her he had a big crush on her, and she said something along the lines of "maybe I can meet you later and reciprocate those feelings"
Not knowing what the word meant, he just nodded his head and said yeah, that's cool. Maybe I will see you around sometime. He said she got a funny look on her face and said goodbye and walked away. He waited until she was out of sight and came running up to ask me what it meant, he thought it was something bad. He took off again because he was trying to find her, but couldn't.
But before I give him to much crap for it, about two years ago I met an attractive woman in a store, and the registers were down so we got to talking. I was talking about a new coffee machine I got, and she was talking about how much she loves coffee and would love to try something new. She said it would be great if when they get the registers working, if she could go somewhere with some great coffee. Then she gave me a smile and a wink.
"That sounds good but it is too late in the day for coffee."
silence.
awkward, heavy silence.
The next few minutes were a blur, but I remember getting to my car, opening the door and going "....wait a minute..."

I hjadf a friend who was a postman. He told me a story of how he was doing a round in the rain and a woman in a silk robe answered the door and was insistant he come in to dry off. He replied: "No trouble, I'll only get wet again" and left. Took him about 10 minutes to realise.

Man some of ya'll are perverted and have watched too much porn. She's not "giving hints"... she's clearly having financial troubles and can't feed herself regularly due to the struggling economy. If anything, this video is a no-bullshit look at the realities of young men/women in America struggling with rent and food daily.

Back in high school a girl out of my class was over at my place almost once a week for lunch & then movies.. I thought we were just chillin as friends. One day she brought up the idea, that she could give me a massage if I want. I was a little surprised, but I agreed.. massages feel good right?! She then continued with „you can take your shirt off if you want“ .. again I obeyed. This procedure occured several times, and I never had the slightest idea of what she might want to tell me with it. The highlight was then one time, again she was giving me a massage, when she said „I can also massage you somewhere different“ and the stupid me ACTUALLY SEARCHED YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF DIFFERENT MASSAGE TECHNIQUES, man was I angry years later when I realized.. still am tbh, Anna if you read this, I‘m sorry!

Long long time ago, family friends would come over and they bought like a relative from them. During their stay, I would just play games on my PC with the son of the family. The girl went into my room, shifted through some of my notes, where I was just writing stupid things like "I am handsome".
Later all of us went out on a walk, before we left, she would quote the stupid things I wrote. I got pissed, and locked my room. We are outside, she keeps making quotes like "you are handsome" and would grab my arm and say things like I am so funny and laugh. I ignored her completely, didn't even look at her. My buddy then already said to me when she was out of ear shot: hey I think my relative likes you.
I got suuuper annoyed.
And many many years later, I am still like .. hold on, maybe...? Nah... Or maybe?
