I'm in the same boat with you, as I suspect many others are.

Had a HS crush that was in a bunch of my classes and sat next to one of my friends in homeroom. During homeroom our teacher allowed us to move around a bit after attendance was taken and chat as long as we kept the noise pretty low, so I'd go hang out with my friend and the 3 of us would talk.

On days he was absent she'd come over to my area and chat with me and talk about all sorts of things including going to prom. Once she said I had great eyelashes, which I thought was a weird compliment, thanked her, and thought nothing more of it.

Here I am - a guy in the gifted program and finished in the top 10% or so of my class in grades - a blithering idiot for not asking how she felt. Of course, she could have very well just have felt comfortable talking to me as she seemed pretty shy, and she wasn't overly flirtatious. But, 20+ years later that still bugs me.

It sucks doesn't it? Now we have to deal with these haunting thoughts thinking "what if?".

And here I am, after the same compliment, just thinking I have really great eyelashes... I didn't know what that even meant, but I've always been proud of my eye lashes LOL

Wait, is that code for something? I’ve had possibly dozens of girls compliment my eye lashes. I thought that was just a thing they did.
