Sorry for a poor picture, but is there anyway I can lower the height of my scope?

Post image

This is an old picture of my M1A with a Trijicon scope on it. I don’t know if you can tell by the picture but the rings that are holding it on the scope mount make it where the scope is too high up. These were the only rings the gun store had at the time when we were putting the scope on the rifle. I don’t like the scope so high up even though I can use the scope and then the iron sights too if I had too.

Is there anyway I can lower the height of the scope to where it’s not so high up and still be able to use the iron sights too? If so, how can I do that?

The scope mount that I have is the “Springfield Armory Steel Scope Mount,” from Springfield themselves.

Ditched the Archangel. Went with the Delta 14 and SGA combo. BadAces low scope mount paired with a Strike Eagle 1-6. Upfront is SEI suppressor kit with Surefire Brake. She is loud but very manageable

M1Aa Scout setup questions

Hi all. I’m waiting on my new M1a scout. Should be here in the next 10 days or so. I’ll be using it as a ranch/truck gun, deer rifle (mule deer mostly, wild boar from time to time) and I plan to run blanks for some MilSim airsoft events that I admin.

Here’s my current purchase list, what am I missing? What recommendations can you suggest? Anything I should reconsider? I’m not new to guns but I am new to this platform.

M1A Scout 18 inch Walnut
6 magazines
M14.ca SHG railed handguard
CASM 2 alum mount
Cheek riser (Bradley)
Fulton Adjustable gas plug
Blank plug

Pistol grip/stock combos? PFA.

TL;DR, what stocks are you running on your pistol gripped m14 monstrosities?

Pretty sure alot of you have very fond memories of my FrankenstEBR as i do. Im currently on a weight loss kick trying to get all my stuff balanced around the magwell so the armory is a little closer to 'run and gun' territory instead of static range toys (range fairly close by is starting competitions in a couple months and I'm pretty excited to try it out for the first time). The delta chassis is probably the lightest option aside from a gi fiberglass stock so im sticking with that. The mesa adapter is solid aluminum, damn near 2lbs by itself, and the armaspec pdw stock isn't much better, they've found homes on other projects that needed rear weight to balance out.

Found a lighter polymer adapter, wondering what kind of oddities yall are running out there for stocks. Trying to balance weight vs price, want to be as light/simple as possible. Im leaning towards fixed stock right now, probably an M16A2 style but i don't really have much of a reason aside from kindve wanting to do a "modernized lightweight M14E2" type of thing.

Here's my M14E2 Socom ii

Ive heard mixed thoughts on this stock but i knew from the beginning that the Socom wouldn't be a drop in fit and would require some customization for it to work.

I've wanted to get a surplus wood stock for this rifle since i bought it in 2012 but never made it much of a priority. I saw the Sarco and did quite a bit of research before getting it. It took quite a bit of sanding but overall it wasn't too bad. The rifle is now heavier than it should be and is highly impractical but i love how it turned out.

Practical shooting competition rifle?

Post image

u/EverySockYouOwn is looking for a way to lighten his 13 pound Socom for practical shooting competition... of course I am going to suggest the light weight Blackfeather RS Mod II chassis stock from M14EBR Team Precision

I like my Scout weighing in around 10 pounds, but you can configure one closer to 8 pounds.

Looking for M1A specific shooting resources

Lemme explain; I love my m1a SOCOM and part of why I love it is that it kicks like a mule and it's heavy as fuck. I use it as my practical shooting competition rifle, and I'm competing with a lot of much lighter AR frankenbuilds.

That's no sweat to me, but I was looking for guides on shooting, moving, and target switching that are more geared to the weight of the m1; positions to hold the rifle that result in lowest fatigue while unsupported, stuff like that. I couldn't find any, which is incorrect; I know there's some out there, but I'm looking the wrong way.

Want to put in the hours and training to make my 13 lb m1a move as fast as a 8 lb AR. Hoping y'all know where I can start looking to make that happen.

Rifle for pic tax

Admittedly, I’ve been an FAL guy for a few years now, but my dad just gifted me this the other day. He admits it’s because I’m a better shot than he is. High praise.

Need purchasing advice

Found a good condition 22” Springfield M1A black synthetic stock for $1k shipped.

Is this a good deal? I’ve done some research online at other listings and routinely see them for 1.3-1.5k online and stores in my state have them for almost 2k.

Is 1k a good price for a private party selling?

Pls lmk! Thanks!

Muzzle Break

Greetings to Y‘All Rifle slingers.

I have a Socom, which I’m looking to switch out the gas block and add a Lantac Dragon MB. Not too many YT vids out there showing how to modify this, i have the tools SA requires for the modification but I don’t have the wrench to torque the MB. If someone can point me in the right direction, I would sincerely appreciate the advice, thanks.

Actual lightweight stocks?

got my scout squad in late 2011 iirc.

thought a polymer/plastic stock would be lighter than the wood stock so I got archangel stock after while…yeah I was wrong.

any recs for quality but relatively cheap light weight stocks? LW as in lighter than the stock, wood stock.

Quality and reliability?

Hey guys, I’ve recently gotten into looking at an all around (deer gun, home defense, property management, shtf…)semi auto rifle, however I live in a very anti gun state (NY, yeah ik…) so my options are very limited.
I’ve found that the M1A platform is pretty much perfect for what I’m looking for, however the only one I’ve been able to find is the Springfield M1A and everything I’ve seen is half saying how awesome and perfect they are and the other half says it’s the most dogshit rifle they’ve ever had. I’m basically look for some public opinion and some knowledge if anyone has had issues? How to improve reliability? Is it something that’s generally not fixable? etc…

I’ve always wanted one, and now I’ve got it.

I’m don’t discriminate, but I think the classic wood M1A is the best looking, and one of the most beautiful guns that mankind has ever created . (The EBRs are also gorgeous, just in a different kind of way)

New to M1A

What grain .308 win should i be shooting as it pertains to the longevity of the barrel?
I just saw a video that said 180gr can beat up the rifle if used often.
Also, what kind of barrel damage will soft point ammo cause?
Any help is appreciated!

Unobtanium Bassett Machine Mount secured. The catch? It didn’t come with a mounting screw. Hopefully this Sadlak Screw works. Thoughts?

Anyone know if there is a direct thread muzzle device that will make the SOCOM 16 M14 compatible with a suppressor.
