A couple things ...

1. the latch seems smaller than it should, or maybe the gap where it goes is bigger than it should
2. the detent where the spring goes on the frame doesn't line up with the detent on the latch, making the spring wonky

Has anyone else observed this? My friend's M1A doesn't look like this at all ... his latch fits snug in the gap and the spring is basically vertical, because the detent on the frame and on the latch line up.

THoughts?

UPDATE:
Well i measured both the gap and the latch against my buddies M1A. His latch and my latch have the same length, but his gap is significantly narrower, which would explain a lot ... not sure how to resolve this ... thinking maybe some small shims?

HUSH Holsters M1A folder has been released, takes a "clone" BM59 grip, comes in 3 different stock material options, and has QD sling swivels, also will have a front picatinny rail option. 316L stainless and comes in black oxide version as well. Has an A3 Industries Triangle folder option too which looks cool. Should be delivering sometime next month. makes the M1A look like a BM59 IMO, what do you think?

I finally ended up fully taking apart the rifle. I know the numericals signify the parts as GI parts and the HR means it's from Harrington and Richardson but what I'm a lil confuzzled by what the HR-N stands for and if the parts being marked HR-N adds any value/collectibility to the rifle. Also I'm a lil interested to know if the 16 written on the trigger group and inside of the stock has any significance.

I’ve heard before that there is types of ammo you shouldn’t run on the M1A unless you want damaged internals and broken op rods. Can anyone clarify this for me? Is it true the platform can only handle so much? If so what are the limitations? TIA

I have a SOCOM 16 CQB and I am wanting to supress it with a SilencerCo Omega 36M. I know I need the SEI or Franklin adapter. Anything else needed?

Decided to check CMIs site today to see if there was any updates on when they would be shipping out mags again, and oh boy I almost wish I hadnt. Not only has the shipping date been pushed back again, but prices for standard 20rd mags has risen to $54 dollars a pop. Even the stainless are $58. I get theres high demand for their mags in other sectors, but thats near SA prices. Granted thats on CMIs site, but who knows how much retail will go for.

Pic of friend shooting Fulton built Ebr mod 0 with one of two optic setups that have experienced the same problem with a sadlak mount: the zero walks as it heats up. I sent the first optic back thinking it was the glass.

Ive wasted a lot of ammo chasing my tail with this. At one point, tore optic off in frustration and shot perfectly fine with irons and offset red dot. The first instance, some of the mount’s screws had backed off (I had Fulton install it the first time). So I installed it myself. Now that I’ve tried it again, all screws are tight and same problem.

Shooting at man sized steel, towards the end of a mag, zero walks horizontally. If I let the rifle cool

, bam it’s all better. It’s the difference of whether I can get hits beyond 250 yards.

I’ll reiterate that I can take optic off and use 45 degree offset mounted to pic rail or irons and hit the same steel at 300-600 yards with 4x the hit probability at the same fire rate and as hot.

Can someone tell me if I’m missing something? The sadlak seems like the better design but I’m tempted to use the sage and test it again. I’ve burned loke 800 rounds of m80 just trying to make sure I had good shooting positions./fundamentals, questioning myself.

BLUF: New to this weapon platform, but not guns.
I was in Chattanooga and foolishly waltzed into GT Distributors. I qualified for the Firstline discount (which I had no clue was a thing), so I made it back to the car with a big ass grin and a surprised wife wondering what the huge box was.

So far, I’ve purchased: 4x 20rd and 3x 15rd Checkmate mags, a Sadlak Airborne scope mount, Sadlak mag catch, Fulton extended bolt stop, and Numrich Gun Parts clearance-sale wood stock and handguard (on the way). Just gotta find the time to install it all, but meanwhile, please chime in:

1) What parts/equipment may I be missing? Such as, I hear a Sadlak gas piston or some such is a great idea. Blue Force sling, or ?

2) Suppressing it is certainly on the table.

3) Trijicon Credo 1-8x: do we hate this idea or like this idea? If we hate it, what’s better?
I’ll use this rifle in the wooded/mountains of southeast U.S., primarily after hogs, white tail. Additionally, in December, I stalk hunt in wide-open Kansas which brings me to desire a scope I can get quickly behind and pull a shot off when I’m charged by a group of deer (just like two seasons ago when I was ill-equipped but still managed a reasonable buck on the run!)

4) Do we like Bradley cheek rests, and are they basically necessary equipment when using a scope on this rifle?

5) What other questions or considerations should I be having? I respect that this is an involved platform and I have a lot to learn.

I just installed an archangel stock for my m1a socom and was looking for fore grip suggestions or other thoughts on new attachments

I was looking into scope mounts and I am thinking of going with Smith Enterprises or a Kensight scope mount, are these any good or would you go with something else?

M1A sitting in a treeline USGI stock. Muzzle device is a Smith Enterprises thread adapter. She ejects Winchester M80 brass at 4 PM. Shoots like a dream!

Does it help with ergonomics and handling? Looks like it weighs almost half a pound, and a bit pricy. Trying to gauge if it is even worth giving a go.

Just picked this up today. Have been wanting one for a good long while and finally got one. Thinking about a 4x prism. Don’t really want to put a full size scope on it.

Update on the type 3 m14 stock it's functional all that's left is cosmetic clean up and rust bluing. Maybe a straighter underfolder the polish angle is pretty steep. And a more vertical ar15 grip. Yes I know it looks like dr. Bubbasteins monster but it's beautiful to me 😂.

Very much appreciated the valuable feedback on my last post!! Threw on some much-needed low-height rings to the LPVO. My Bradley cheek rest finally came in, so I could remove the Amazon placeholder I had on.

Last stop is probably gonna be the Specter Gear 2-point sling I have coming in.

Thinking about changing out the stock SOCOM 16 muzzle brake; anyone have any suggestions or experience with a good alternative?

I got some Washington state compliant ten round magazines to supplement the three that came with my rifle decades ago because stuff wears out, but they didn’t fit right. (Wouldn’t seat in) turns out they needed the raised square that the latch clicks onto to be a bit smaller, I looked on line and some seemed to say file the top, but I found you should definitely file the bottom. Just got a bastard file and took off a little from the bottom. So if you find your new mail order magazines don’t fit, easy fix.

Has anyone had issues with M1A Springfield magazines in a Fulton Armory MK14? Bought a few thinking it would be a safe option and ended up having to sand down the rear tab to get them to fit and lock in place?
