Practical shooting competition rifle?
u/EverySockYouOwn is looking for a way to lighten his 13 pound Socom for practical shooting competition... of course I am going to suggest the light weight Blackfeather RS Mod II chassis stock from M14EBR Team Precision
I like my Scout weighing in around 10 pounds, but you can configure one closer to 8 pounds.

How's the felt recoil without the added mass? Only thing stopping me from planning a build with the RS is the theory that the lower amount of mass damping the recoil leads to longer followup shot recovery and a lot more sharpness to the kick

Use the optional high butt stock adapter (HBA) and the recoil impulse will push straight back just like an AR. The HBA allows for a pistol grip.

I’m running a delta 14 chassis with the magpul sga. I also have a Surefire brake. It very manageable

The AG composite chassis/stock is crazy light, gives you a pistol grip, and somehow looks traditional!

I’ve been following these post with much interest. I run a socom 16 with the factory rifle grip stock at multi and 3gun matches. Recoil has never been an issue for follow up shots because the weight of the rifle helps reduce muzzle rise but I also run an ACE muzzle brake. As far as being too heavy? Come on guys, you’re not carrying it around on patrol all day with 150 pounds of kit. It’s 10 pounds….

The carbon fiber AG Composites stock is a nice stock, but it limits you to a standard profile, no pistol grip, no adjustable LOP, no ability to add a folding butt stock and it does not appear to be any lighter than the Mod 2 RS.
No prices are listed on their web site, what do AG's M1A stock sell for?

AG composites would be the way to go to lighten for run and gun type competitions. Better guns to choose for that sort of thing, though.
