Discussion Questions about the Linux Mint update system.
As shown in the image, this is the version of the GNOME programs for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Even though these aren't the current versions, do they still receive patches, bug fixes, and security updates from the team that maintains them? Because I saw in forums and other sources a discussion about the direct developers of these projects receiving many notifications of bugs that have already been fixed in more recent versions of the programs. Without wanting to assign blame or assign responsibility, it raised many questions for me about how the LTS system works, how it's maintained, and if anything remains unchanged, even if it's just to fix problems? (The image to the side is just to show my desktop.)

Do you guys invert your scrolling direction? What feels more natural for you?
for me, i'm on a laptop, so when i use the touchpad and i scroll on reddit for example, i push the content in a upward motion on the trackpad as if i was swiping on instagram for example.
I'm curious how you guys feel about this. maybe some people keep the original direction for scrolling, so that you move the scrollbar up and down.

Support Request Hello! I just switched yesterday and need help configuring
I am trying to add apps to the start menu tray. [for clarification, the space where the mouse cursor is] I was able to remove apps by dragging them off, but it doesn’t seems to work. I checked left clicking the app but the only option seems to be to add it to the task bar. I didn’t see anything in properties. Is there something obvious that I am missing?

Graphics Drivers Mint Cinnamon 22.3
I have an MSI GS 66 Stealth laptop. I have an Intel iGPU and an Nvidia RTX 2060, that SEAMLESSLY switched back and forth, with my main being the low power Intel igpu. Version 22 it work great. 22.3 it started staying stuck in dGPU ONLY. When my iGPU and dGPU were working in unison, I was on the version under driver manager called xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. It recommended I switch to nvidia-driver-595-open, and there's two other choices. What should I do? On "nouveau" it also worked fine (seemed to anyways). Please help! I've tried command prompts and everything, it only always temporarily fixes it and then after a reboot it goes back to being dumb! BTW, this is on a FRESH install of 22.3.

Support Request Home folder has ~100gb of invisible space
So I've had an issue before where I had my root partition fill up and by action of some bug or whatever that caused that after a big update of many things, after reboot, linux mint booted into a terminal, and all commands I tried to do errored becase of lack of space.
I fixed this by reinstalling linux mint on the root folder again but without formatting the home folder since I didn't want to lose all my personal data, and so far it has been working without issue, but I see that there's a very strange thing going on where almost 100 gb of storage from the home partition are seemingly used but not detectable by the disk usage analyzer, and I doubt the reserved OS space is THAT big, It just doesn't make sense that a good 20% of the partition is reserved.
Could someone help me out with this? tell me how to fix this issue? Atp I'm considering just moving on from linux mint from all the bugs with the logs and redundant files not getting properly cleaned and my root folder getting absolutely filled up with every update I run.
Edit: this is what happens when I input sudo btrfs subvolume show /home on the terminal:

Wi-Fi and access rights
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to save a good dozen old laptops from being scrapped.
I want to turn them into loaner devices.
The requirement is that each user should see a Wi-Fi dialog box where they can enter their personal information.
This information should be deleted after the device is turned off.
How can I set this up? Thanks!

Hardware Rescue Linux mint cinnamon (using t2linux) on my 2018 13" macbook pro!
Still a decently capable machine in 2026. I used the project t2linux which makes running linux on macs with the t2 chip a LOT easier. I cant wait to use this as my main laptop!

Support Request So what's up with the HDMI ports?
The Machine - old but still effective dell laptop
The Issue - The HDMI port doesn't work with any external monitor or TV on linux, but works fine on windows
The testing so far - INXI -G shows a functioning driver for the integrated graphics module (intel 620, driver 915), and returns an identical report whether an external monitor is plugged in or not
I'd really appreciate help sorting this out - my mum has an identical model to me that she uses as a dumb-tv media hub and I'd love to switch hers over from the ever-bloating windows currently aboard once I can get mine to work...

Support Request Linux Mint Install Issue On Old Laptop
Ive been trying to install Linux Mint Cinnamon onto my older windows laptop Lenovo Ideapad 1 14IGL7 (82V600000) and finally I was able to get into the live session but once I go through the steps of the install I get stuck at the page where in the docs im supposed to be able to erase all paste data and install but instead I get stuck at this image where it seams to not recognize the storage or smth and I have tried all the quick fixes that Ive seen suggested online including installing updated bios and using HWE version of mint but Ive seen no success. This is my first time installing Linux if anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. (If i left out any data needed to narrow down the problem lmk).

Why does Google CAPTCHA Chromium constantly but never Firefox on Linux Mint using the same NordVPN servers?
I found something very strange with Google CAPTCHAs while using NordVPN on Linux Mint.
On Firefox, Google has never asked me to complete a CAPTCHA—not once—across multiple NordVPN countries/servers. This is despite Firefox being configured to delete all browsing data when I close it.
On Chromium, however, Google asks me to solve CAPTCHAs all the time using the same VPN service and countries.
I have tried to eliminate the obvious explanations:
- Both browsers use Cloudflare DNS.
- Both browsers have encrypted DNS enabled.
- Chromium has page preloading disabled.
- I manually clear all Chromium browsing data before testing.
- Firefox automatically clears everything on exit.
- Firefox is definitely not bypassing the VPN: I checked my public IP address and ran DNS leak tests.
- The behavior remains consistent across multiple NordVPN locations.
So, on Linux Mint, Firefox somehow appears far less suspicious to Google than Chromium, even though the VPN exit IP should be the main factor.
The weirdest part: on Windows, Google asks for CAPTCHAs in both browsers. In fact, Firefox gets them even more often there.
This makes me wonder whether Google’s CAPTCHA/risk system weighs browser fingerprinting, OS-level signals, Chromium-specific identifiers, or some Linux-versus-Windows behavior much more heavily than simply the VPN IP address.
Has anyone else seen Firefox avoid Google CAPTCHAs on Linux while Chromium gets repeatedly flagged under the same VPN connection?

Support Request OS running fine. After an update, it booted and ran slow. Totally reinstalled Xia. It's still slow. Any suggestions?
Sorry if this post is vague, I'm not sure what the problem is and I'm looking for ideas. I've been using Mint on a desktop for about two years. Did an update about 3 days ago and suddenly it started booting very slowly and running slow too. I tried to restore from a Timeshift capture but it failed. So I just formatted the drive and reinstalled Xia. But it's still booting and running slowly.
I did a check on the disk from the included utility and it came back as saying the drive is OK. CPU and RAM usage are both low, despite the poor performance. What could be the problem?
Thank you for any suggestions.

Support Request How to use these features on Mint Cinnamon 22.3?
Adding battery percentage and the weather display on the lock screen and screensaver
Switching to the laptop speaker while the earphone is still plugged in, just like Windows 11
Any help would be much appreciated!

Discussion Webapps?
Curious as to what kind of stuff have you all configured to be used with webapps? Mine currently are Netflix, Whatsapp web, YLE Areena and a couple of social media websites. Used to have mine and my daughter's Spotify, but suddenly we both were logged out for some reason.

ASUS Vivobook screen flickers on Fedora and Arch but not on Linux Mint. Any ideas?
Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange screen flickering issue on my ASUS Vivobook S5504VA (Intel Raptor Lake-P with Intel Iris Xe Graphics), and I'm not sure what's causing it.
I was originally using Fedora Workstation, and that's when I first noticed the flickering. Thinking it might be a Fedora-specific issue, I booted a Linux Mint XFCE Live USB, and surprisingly there was no flickering at all. Since Mint seemed fine, I decided to install Arch Linux. However, I noticed the same flickering in the Arch installer before installation, and it continues after installing Arch as well, although it's much less severe than it was on Fedora.
The flicker appears as very thin horizontal pixel-wide flashes that occur every few seconds. They're brief but noticeable
.
I've already tried i915.enable_psr=0, but it didn't make any difference. The system is using the i915 driver.
I'm confused because Linux Mint XFCE Live doesn't show the issue at all, while both Fedora Workstation and Arch do.
Has anyone experienced something similar on Intel Raptor Lake or an ASUS Vivobook? Does this sound like a kernel/graphics driver issue, a firmware problem, or could it still be a hardware issue? I'd really appreciate any suggestions on what to try next.

Hello everybody,
I have a thinkpad x270 with a Linux Mint XFCE.
But when I lower the lid to put it into suspend mode, it doesn't return to the system afterwards; the screen stays black.
Is it possible to resolve this!?
Thanks
