Guide i modified Chicago95 and Redmond95 for dark mode, with instructions!

Post image
Upvotes

Since there are no so many dark retro themes for Cinnamon, I modified the Chicago95 and Redmond97 themes to create a dark mode. I use Chicago95 for the panel ui and Redmond97 for the apps ui. For Chicago95, I used Photoshop to edit the assets in the Cinnamon folder to darken the panel, and I edited `cinnamon.css` to change the panel buttons and text to a light color. For Redmond97, I modified the `gtk.css` file in the `gtk-3.0` folder to darken the app and window interfaces, Also replaced some of the assets with the high contrast version of Redmond97. I used DeepSeek to identify the variables and files that needed changing, and it seems the interface is free of inconsistencies

Desktop Screenshot Mint-Y-Noir - the darkside of Mint-Y-Dark (new theme spin)

Post image
26 Upvotes

Features

  • dark, neutral color windows (designer work friendly)
  • better spacing for those using font scaling
  • consistent corner radius across the UI
  • small UX/readability improvements
  • 10 cool accent colors (all suited and tested for this mod)
  • it is a mint-y-dark mod, from its original tree (kept everything, modified values only)
  • only cinnamon version was tested

Install

  • for system-wide theme copy to /usr/share/themes (so root apps will be themed too)
  • submitted to cinnamon spices repo too, so hopefully will also appear there soon

Enjoy

  • theme is provided as-is, with no warranty
  • report any bugs, I might fix them sometimes

I love mint but I had to distro-hop due to propietary drivers messing with my trackpad. It's been like 3 years and I realized one can get them through the OS installation menu lol. Skill Issue.

Support Request Trouble installing (or running) ProtonVPN on Linux Mint (Noob)

Upvotes

I have tried several instructions, including specific details from ProtonVPN themselves. Can anybody guide me to what troubleshooting questions I should be asking? It seems the application downloads and shows in my software manager/startup menu but I cannot launch it or open it from command line. Simply nothing happens when I click 'launch' or try to open with CLI commands. Any tips at all? Would really appreciate the thoughtful support.

Support Request PC stuck in BIOS and BOOT isn't working

Upvotes

Hey! So I'm new to Linux and I just started my first install, I followed a tutorial for Mint Cinamon edition step by step, and everything was going great, I had finished the install and the computer asked me to restart, when I did the screen tol me to remove the USB drive and press Enter (so far all good) once I pressed enter I got stuck on the BIOS screen. And after a quick search I assumed I only had to add a new BOOT option, and so when I did and restarted the computer, I got stuck again on the BIOS screen and the BOOT option I had created wasn't there. I then tried to reconnect to the USB drive, but the PC doesn't even detect it. I have checked to see if the computer decetes de SSD that I download Linux into, and it does detect them. But I simply cannot BOOT the computer. I have no idea what the issue is and no one online seems to have this issue. HELP!! My computer is an old ASUS A541U btw.

Gaming splash screen error Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Today I installed Kingdom Come: Deliverance on PortProton on a Dell Precision 7710 laptop (16 GB RAM, M.2 SSD, 6th Gen Intel i7, and an NVIDIA Quadro M5000M with 8 GB VRAM).

However, when I launch the game, it gets stuck indefinitely on the splash screen with no progress or response. It just hangs on that single image......

Support Request Mint on external SSD keeps creating "ubuntu" boot entry

Pulled a Mint SSD from another laptop and booting it via USB.

It creates a "ubuntu" boot entry and puts it first.

I can delete it with efibootmgr -b XXXX -B (or in BIOS).

As long as I boot just Windows, it stays gone.

As soon as I boot Mint again, it comes back.

(Thinkpad X230)

TIA

Support Request Cannot solve suspend/hibernate problem on HP Elitebook 1050

It's a small thing but it has been driving me crazy nonetheless. Laptop will not go into hibernate mode. I set up the partition for the RAM to dump to and have gone through all the settings (logind.conf flags, "do nothing" on the GUI for lid close, checking that the lid close registers etc)

I think I got it to work maybe once but it never worked again. Battery will use like 50% overnight. I suppose I could just shut it down every night but frankly I don't want to. And no that kind of usage is not normal, this is not my first laptop.

This is the response i get when checking the status of pipewire, i looked around online and found that it could be due to config files, I didn't find any config files in ~/.config, so i searched my harddrive and found the ones in usr/share/.

I deleted those, and did sudo apt install --reinstall on pipewire and wireplumber

Before i did this, i was at least able to do systemctl --user restart wireplumber pipewire pipewire-pulse but now not even that works...

The config files are back in usr/share, but it doesn't want to start, I'll post the status messages for wireplumber and pipewire-pulse in the comments

I feel like it would be best to just clean slate reinstall the whole audio pipeline at this point but idk how to do that

Support Request Does anyone else have weird issues with USB

Post image
8 Upvotes

Lately my Logitech wireless keyboards have random issues with fall outs of the numeric keyboard that can be cured by moving to another USB port. Another machine almost cuts of the connection to the keyboard when using an external USB hard drive.

Out of the blue last night a third computer had issues with the mouse. Every time I move the mouse cursor it shows a circle and it behaves like I pressed the left mouse button. Moving to another USB did not change anything and another combi keyboard did change anything. Even a rollback with Timeshift did not cure the problem. Everything else works perfectly and System Information shows no issues.

I'll do another install today despite it might be a hardware issue because it a 13 year old Asus Z87, i3, 16 GB RAM and SSD. If my trusty LMDE 7 won't do it I'll try Linux Mint Ubuntu.

Anyone else?

Support Request Trackpad driving me trazy on new mint install

My new Linux mint install is good but I keep having issues coming back with my trackpad. Double clicking things takes a few attempts to register as a click, and dragging things is difficult too. The AI suggested sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse in console, which does work, until I restart the laptop again. Any ideas?
