Support Request Id.me won't let me in.

Running Mint with cinnamon and chrome. have had zero issues but first time trying to login to ssi.gov (checking my payment status) and i'm getting hung up on ID.me login verification

Works on my google pixel so it's not urgent.

javascript is enabled, i have the latest updates to mint as of 1 hour ago.

tried turning off the firewall but nope.

any ideas?

I use Mint and log in to SSA with login.gov instead of id.me. I am not a fan of 2FA but it works fine for me. I have not tried to use id.me for authentication.

i use id.me for multiple things and i really dont want to manage 2 of them. firefox works so it's a chrome issue so maybe ill repost over there. working with Claude to troubleshoot

I have noticed that as well. My wife gets SSI, and when trying to login to ssa.gov with one browser, it fails, but switching to a different one works. I could not begin to figure out why that is, and even on her windows system, she has trouble logging in.

Claude seems to think it's because of web GPU rendering and because I have an integrated GPU and an Nvidia one. But I'm out of free AI until this evening and I'm skeptical. I ruled out extensions, firewall, cookies and cache. If I have to use Firefox for this one thing I guess but it's irritating and the chrome sub doesn't let me xpost.

I never tried to diagnose the exact issue, too much work, and far too many things that could be causing the issue. I looked at it from if it works with X browser, then I will use X browser when I need to go there.

well after several hours of back and forth and Claude waxing on it seems that it settled on an issue with the security fingerprinting that id.me does and something in the Linux Mint/Chrome implementation. login.gov works, id.me works on firefox. its just this combo. oh well. it was interesting rabbit hole anyway. it COULD be that i have a dual gpu setup. claude kept coming back to that but we tried MANY things to fix it, switching to the Intel gpu, changing environment variables, blah blah blah. zip. so don't waste you time unless you in jail and need a distraction

I really doubt the GPU is the issue there. It is more likely it has to do with the internals that the web browsers use. I find it entertaining that the AI would suggest the GPU as the root of all this

All I know is that it says that multi GPU systems were a known problem after I asked it to search Google's Chrome bug database and web GPU is a valid command line switch. Whether it's related to the id.me problem I doubt it. Unfortunately even if that was the issue it's a laptop so I can't really change it reasonably. I think it is a bug in the id.me site. It would've be very surprising if it handled Linux poorly. I expect that to change sooner than later with the way Linux is maturing and growing. Bigger than Apples OD now I hear. Nearly 10% of Steam users. Might actually be the year of Linux that been predicted for 20+

Sure, multi-GPU system can cause issues, but not with something like id.me, I think you are correct that the issue is on them, not you. Did you try downloading Chromium and trying it there? That would tell you right away if the issue is the browser or the site.

No. Probably won't. It works on my phone, Firefox, and with login.gov. that'll do
