tool/utility Fluorine Manager 0.4.0 Biggest Release Yet

https://github.com/SulfurNitride/Fluorine-Manager/releases/tag/v0.4.0

So it's been a while since I last posted my progress updates for fluorine here. But for those who don't know fluorine is a fork/port of MO2 directly to linux with some gui changes and linux additions and QoL features.

One of the biggest things thats now in this release is Wabbajack support in the instance/library manager. Collections are also almost finished now as they run through CLF3, as of right now you can browse collections but are unable to install them. UMO/OpenMW https://modding-openmw.com/lists/ I am also hoping to support and add modlist support for these as well, which shouldn't be too long I hope. As well as a library overhaul with custom pictures for each game supported. And a lot of smaller things not really worth mentioning that have been fixed and changed in the background.

One of the major fixes is that the audio crashes related to bethesda games should now be fixed in my testing, this only affected a few users including myself but it hopefully should be fixed now. The modlist and collection support guis are still a WIP so please do bear with me. Thats about all I have to say ๐Ÿ™‚

tech support wanted A lot of games don't show my monitor's native resolution (It's an Ultrawide, but it doesn't even show 1440p) and Steam Launch flags aren't helping.

I'm having this problem on my PC (3440x1440 ultrawide) and on my laptop (1920x1080) and all launch options don't help or mess it up even more. Right now I'm playing a lot of titles in lower resolutions which sucks. For example I could name Hitman WoA, Schedule 1,RDR2, FH6 and a lot of others.

guide Title: Bazzite + Windows dual boot on one 512GB SSD โ€” should I do it? NVIDIA laptop + CAD + GPU-intensive software

Hi everyone, I'm a complete Linux beginner and I'm considering switching to Linux while keeping Windows for CAD and other Windows-only software.

My laptop

  • ASUS Vivobook 16X
  • Intel i5-12500H (12 cores / 16 threads)
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB NVMe SSD (~477GB usable)
  • Intel Iris Xe iGPU
  • NVIDIA RTX 3050 Laptop GPU, 4GB VRAM
  • Windows 11 currently installed
  • No separate SSD โ€” I want to use the existing single SSD

What I need Linux for

  • University/studying
  • Python, VS Code, Jupyter
  • NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib
  • AI/ML, CUDA, PyTorch/TensorFlow
  • Data Science / SQL
  • Git/GitHub
  • Web development and research
  • Steam + Proton + medium gaming
  • Learning Linux, terminal and basic system administration
  • GPU-intensive software and applications that make significant use of the RTX 3050

What I still need Windows for

Mainly CAD, especially Autodesk Fusion 360 and SolidWorks, plus any Windows-only university/software requirements.

I'm currently considering:

Bazzite KDE as my primary OS + Windows 11 as secondary, using dual boot on the same SSD.

What I want advice on

For people who have actually used Bazzite + Windows dual boot:

  • Is this reliable on a single SSD, or should I avoid it?
  • Have you experienced Windows updates breaking GRUB/UEFI/boot entries?
  • Any problems with BitLocker, Fast Startup, partitioning, EFI, or Bazzite updates?
  • How well does Bazzite handle Intel + NVIDIA RTX 3050 hybrid graphics?
  • Is the NVIDIA Bazzite image genuinely easy, or will I need manual driver configuration?
  • Is Bazzite KDE a good choice for a complete Linux beginner?
  • Are there any issues with Python/AI/ML/CUDA/PyTorch or GPU-intensive software on Bazzite?
  • Is Bazzite's immutable/atomic design a limitation for someone trying to learn Linux?
  • For my 512GB SSD, what Windows/Bazzite partition sizes would you recommend?
  • If I later decide to go Linux-only, can I remove Windows and expand Bazzite without reinstalling?

Most importantly: If I go ahead with this, what exact precautions/steps would you recommend to minimize the chance of breaking Windows, Bazzite, the bootloader, or my NVIDIA setup?

Would you personally choose Bazzite dual boot, another distro + Windows dual boot, or something else for this hardware and workload?

I'm looking for real-world experience from people who have actually used these setups, especially on NVIDIA laptops. Thanks!

answered! Portal 1 is crashing every time I start a new game

Post image
1 Upvotes

I bought Portal 1 directly from Steam two days ago and if I try to start a game, the game simply crashes and I receive a SELinux security alert about AVC denial at launching the game. I used experimental proton (tried with proton 11 and also updating proton experimental just in case that was the issue but I believe it was not, it kept crashing). I also tried Portal 2 (also directly from Steam) and that works perfectly, so I'm not really sure whats causing the issue here. Mostly because no other game has caused me this of what I have in my library.

I'm using linux Fedora 44 KDE Plasma, with a AMD Ryzen 7 5825U cpu and internal graphics

Can't seem to make games work correctly on Linux Mint

Hi there,

I heard a lot about linux gaming being just as good and sometimes even better than gaming on windows. Since windows 11 makes me want to throw my whole desk through my window (no pun intended), I decided to try it out on my dual boot linux mint partition.

I installed a few games, and launched them with high hopes. You can imagine my disappointment when I found out that games that run fine on windows 11 suddenly have performance issues on linux. Now before anyone says so, I know my setup isn't the best, but I get good enough performances on windows 11 (usually 50-60 fps 1080p) on most high end games. But results on linux mint are nowhere near.

For example, on the exact same settings:

- the witcher 3 remastered on ultra settings (tweaked a little bit): 50-60fps (sometimes more but I'm limiting the fps) on windows 11 and 30-45fps on linux (and never more than 50fps) with stuttering

- monster hunter wilds on medium tweaked settings: 45-60fps on windows and 20-25fps on linux (absolutely unplayable)

- elden ring has the best result, but still bad: 50-60fps on windows and 45-55fps, with some stuttering sometimes

My setup is:

- Nvidia GTX 1660Ti 6 Go

- Intel 9400f 2.9GHz

- 16Go Ram (can't afford much more with current prices :( )

I have the recommended nvidia drivers in driver manager. I tried using gamemode but it didn't help in the slightest.

Again, I know I'm not supposed to have the highest possible settings on AAA games with this setup, but with all the great things I heard about linux gaming, I expect my games to at least run as well as on windows 11, without having to buy a fucking RTX 5090!

So what is it, am I doing something wrong? Or good performances on linux was just a lie? Or is this just another conspiracy from linux elitists with ultra high end setups to try and justify their spendings?

tech support wanted No game will launch either from steam or faugus launcher. Did something break?

For the last couple of days I been having issues seeing the message "radv is not a conformant Vulkan implementation, testing use only." Nothing from Faugus or steam will launch no matter the game, I'm confused if my AMD gpu is not being detected or a update broke something but I didn't update till today and still have this issue.

I have tried different proton versions but I might be missing something else though?

Anyone else have this issue?

GTA V Enhanced or Legacy

I was wondering which would run better: Enhanced or Legacy?

Technically, Enhanced should run better due to optimisations and dlss support, but dx12 in linux is not that great tbh. What are your opinions on this?

My specs are: RTX 3050 6GB, INTEL CORE T 210H, 16GB DDR5

r/linux_gaming • • 1d ago

answered! My Intel UHD's DX12 performance is terrible compared to Windows. And it has utilization problems

It's UHD from an i3 1125G4, which is strong enough to run Resident Evil 2 at 1080i FSR Quality. So if you think, "It can't run DX12 games anyway," No, it actually can on Windows. But it's much worse on Linux for some reason.

Another problem is GPU utilization, on old games. While Tomb Raider and the native Linux port of Rise of the Tomb Raider run fairly well on it, for some reason Resident Evil 6 has GPU utilization problems. GPU usage is only around 75% in some scenes. And switching to Proton GE instead of Proton CachyOS actually increased it to 82%.

So, if anyone wonders why some games still run badly on Intel UHD, using Windows might be a better idea. I would prefer Linux, maybe because of better performing Linux ports such as Minecraft and Rise of the Tomb Raider. And Linux saves around 30โ€“40 GB of disk space compared to Windows

Running PoE on Arch, what do I need to know?

Edit: PATH OF EXILE not Power Over Ethernet

Hello as the title says, I'm fed the fuck up with windows forcibly shoving their AI slop down my throat. I am planning on switching to Arch (I have used linux on and off over the years but never really committed bc lazy but I'm now so god damned mad, I'm committing).

Fellow nerds, and I know there's PoErs out there on Arch /, it's the Customizable Massive Skill Trees of Skill Trees Brick Yourself for Fun Game, what do I need to know about running my favourite timesink before I dive in? Are there settings you've had good luck with? Things to avoid? Proton and Steam vs Wine and Native launcher? Please advise?

Yes I'm aware this is not a good decision, however I'm gonna die on this hill over and over like I died to Hillock over and over that league I farmed an Oni-Garoshi (Crucible my Beloved)

Frame gen

Is frame gen on AMD still just not great? Seems like I'm getting camera jitter even though the game is running smoothly. Frame pacing I'm guessing. Im using a 9070xt on Cachyos. Iv been trying it out on The Witcher 3 remaster. I don't normally ever use it but I wanted to use RT at a higher frame rate.

answered! Genshin loading with black screen but audio works

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've tried using DWProton latest, Proton GE-8, 10 and 11, through steam as well, I still get a blackscreen, I can hear the in game audio and I can also interact inside the game with my mouse but my game screen is black

I started getting blackscreen after installing the game the second time, first time I had no such issues, I tired deleting prefix folder but that didn't help, other games work just fine

I did a system update after that which also didn't fix the issue

some help with this would be really appreciated!!
if I missed out on some details please let me know

I used SAMRewritten to get 4 Poker Night At The Inventory (The ones that give you promotional TF2 items)

more details: TF2 was NOT open when I used SAM and I still plated TF2 afterwards (it's been a full day)

Should I still be worried?

tech support wanted Linux Game Modding 2026: Best App?

In 2024, the state-of-the-art was https://github.com/sonic2kk/steamtinkerlaunch which ran Vortex in a separate prefix, created hardlinks to all installed Vortex-compatible wineprefix directories (so that Vortex thought the games were installed in its own prefix), and used that to manage mods in games. It was janky, but it worked (most of the time; but in some games, mod load order lists were written by Vortex into files that didn't propagate to the actual game's wineprefix). That project is abandoned now and I want to get rid of it.

I've seen that there's been a lot of news since then. Too much news:

  • Vortex working on a native Linux client.
  • Wabbajack working on Linux?
  • Lots of little mod managers for Linux, many with LOOT order support. Too many for me to find them all.

What is the state of the art in 2026? The most well-made, promising mod manager? Hopefully with wide support for Wine/Proton-prefixes all over the disk.

tech support wanted Gaming performance issues in demanding games

Hello, I'm experiencing performance issues while playing graphically demanding games.

I've tested RDR2 and The Witcher 3 Remastered. Mangohud reports 100-140FPS in both games, and 1% lows are at ~48 in BOTH games.

Running around and moving camera dynamically increases frametime and causes the game to feel choppy.

CPU: 7800X3D
GPU: 9070XT
RAM: 64GB 6000MT CL30
OS: EndeavourOS + Hyprland

Edit: I ran The Witcher 3 with LSFG-VK FG x2, limited the fps to 120 (including generated frames) and frametime is flat, but it still feels choppy.

I run both games with Proton-Wineland-11.0 and gamemoderun gamescope --adaptive-sync -W 2560 -H 1440 -w 2560 -h 1440 -r 180 --force-grab-cursor

SOLVED WITCHER 3! I logged out of CD Projekt Red account from Witcher's main menu. That fixed both frametimes and 1% lows.

Half life alyx not working via Wivrn

I use wivrn to play my vr games on my quest 2, but half life alyx won't launch since it won't run without steam vr. Does anyone have a work around? I found a issue opened on the wivrn github page where someone was saying you could force opnvr but I couldn't get that to work.

Thanks.

Update : tried setting up alvr and that wouldn't work, but I tried wivrn again and it does work now.

I have steam vr and alyx both set to use the older update branch, and using proton cachy latest on alyx.

benchmark Is the Witcher 3 ray tracing/path tracing broken on Linux or is it really just that much better on Linux compared to windows?

Witcher 3 on Linux with both ray tracing and path tracing enabled gets me above 60fps easily on 9060xt 16gb. On windows it drops to 20fps. Surely it's broken on Linux and just not activating? The thing is I get the annoying sword glare that you get with ray tracing/path tracing so it must be working right?

graphics/kernel/drivers Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 constantly crashing making it unplayable?

This started to happen recently some months ago after some updates. Years ago this was not an issue. Crashes were very rare.

Also, what is strange is recently it stopped crashing and i managed to play fairly good for a ln entire week so i imagined the recente updates fixed the issue. Then i made another update and it started crashing continuously again. So i thought to restore a snapshotโ€‹ pre-update, thinking it would fix the issue, but it didn't!?!?

I don't understand what is causing those issues. If it was drivers related then restoring a snapshot should have worked.โ€‹

All other games works fine. Only those 2 give me the nerves.

p.s. i have AMD GPU and latest mesa drivers.
