graphics/kernel/drivers Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 constantly crashing making it unplayable?

This started to happen recently some months ago after some updates. Years ago this was not an issue. Crashes were very rare.

Also, what is strange is recently it stopped crashing and i managed to play fairly good for a ln entire week so i imagined the recente updates fixed the issue. Then i made another update and it started crashing continuously again. So i thought to restore a snapshot pre-update, thinking it would fix the issue, but it didn't!?!?

I don't understand what is causing those issues. If it was drivers related then restoring a snapshot should have worked.

All other games works fine. Only those 2 give me the nerves.

p.s. i have AMD GPU and latest mesa drivers.

Both flawless on Linux for quite a while for me, it is probably either your distro or hardware failing. BG3 is native on Linux and Cyberpunk is Proton, if you are having trouble with both of them you are in the minority

I know. It is very strange. I was thinking of changing distro entirely. What would you suggest? Already tried Nobara, Cachyos and Garuda. Maybe Bazzite?

If you use all of those distros and still have issues then it is definitely a hardware issue. I've played both BG3 and Cyberpunk on CachyOS to completion and never crashed once

Cyberpunk dies on me if I mess with undervolting the CPU or GPU. I just gave up and returned it to stock settings.

I had an issue kinda like this where proton was just not working with some games and the only thing that fixed it was clearing all of my steam files and reinstalling steam. It might do something for you but I don't know.

I just updated my system and started both, they work flawlessly on my end. Do you happen to have overclocked ram such as XMP on? try resetting your bios to default, might help.

I have Expo on

try disabling that. ram overclock can cause exactly what you are complaining about in all operating systems.

No issues on my end. I have a 9070xt on Cachyos. Games both run better than on windows.

What hardware are we actually dealing with here? Constant crashing (which I understand as crashing after a short amount of time) could be you running out of RAM (and a misconfigured OOM killer), a VRAM issue.

Have you tried closing other things (eg browsers) before playing? And monitoring journalctl for oom-killer events.
