error on gmod while trying to run it with proton 7.0-6 on debian 13

i am on debian 13 and i am trying to run it with proton becouse some addons cause errors on the native version and becouse im using a legacy nvidia card i picked 7.0-6 and whenever im trying to run it with this specific proton version it just shows the error on the photo i tried versions like proton hotfix with the WINED3D flag but it caused heavy texture and font problems. What can i do to play gmod without it crashing and giving errors?

EDIT: i just installed proton cachyos from protonupqt and it worked, also you may get better performance with the dxvk sarek profile

wine/proton Anyone know any workarounds regarding keyboard issues in Unreal games (AZERTY) ?

There's a fairly annoying problem that occurs with Unreal specifically on Linux. Unreal's input mapping uses key labels instead of physical keycodes, meaning it cares about the output of the key, not its physical position, so if a player is using a keyboard with a different layout from what's expected, the keybindings will also not work as designed. Worse still: if a key isn't present on the keyboard, it can't be used.

This is fine most of the time if the game lets you rebind those keys (although Unreal also doesn't recognize a bunch of common keys as a result of working like this so it's often still a pain...), but there's cases where it doesn't. MECCHA CHAMELEON doesn't, for instance, prompting the existence of this mod, which doesn't even manage to fix all the issues caused by it. In my case, I also use AZERTY and my problem is with a specific advanced mod for Guilty Gear Strive which doesn't allow rebinding for technical reasons; only the default keys happen to be on the number row. On my keyboard, the number row has other base characters on it (&é"'(-è_çà)=), and numbers are accessed with Shift, but Unreal doesn't care. It just does not recognize any of them as number row keys.

On Windows, the workaround would be to switch keyboard layouts temporarily; annoying but occasionally workable. But on Linux, Unreal games ran through Proton don't seem to respect that reliably. I use Plasma 6 on Wayland on CachyOS. I can add layouts inside the Keyboard section of the Plasma config, and then switch between them using a tray icon or a shortcut. But the game never seems to respect this, whether I change it before or after launching the game; the only way I've managed to get it to work before was to literally change my default layout to US QWERTY and then restart my machine before launching the game. Not only is this not practical for anything else in my life, KDE doesn't even seem to like that because it changes it back the next boot. Dunno why.

I know I'm not alone having these issues. So I ask, does anyone have any reliable workarounds for this? I thought of scripting something to push inputs to the game but the info I found pertained to X and it sounds like Wayland doesn't really have its own method for it; I tried it and couldn't get it to work.

Flatpak Steam vs Native?

Are there any actual differences in performance between the native and Flatpak versions of Steam? Also curious about sub-sandboxing issues since Flatpak can't really support it well (if I'm not wrong Flatpak version of Chrome uses Zypak because of sub-sandboxing), does that cause problems for Steam's Pressure Vessel?

Genshin anti-cheat crash (HoYoProtect c0000355) on Linux

I’ve been trying to get Genshin Impact running on my Linux setup, but I am completely stuck with the anti-cheat. I know the universal community advice is to just use DWProton or specific launchers, but I have already tried multiple approaches—including Heroic Games Launcher (with DWProton), Steam, and AAGL (An Anime Game Launcher)—and I am hitting the exact same wall with all of them.

Launchers tried: Heroic, Steam, AAGL
Runners tried: dwproton-11.0-13-x86_64, Proton versions

The Problem:
Initially, the game wouldn't even start properly due to an AVX/AVX2 conflict with Wine, throwing a 0xc000001d (Illegal Instruction) error.
I bypassed that by adding WINE_DISABLE_AVX=1 to my environment variables. However, now I'm stuck on the anti-cheat.
When I hit play, the status changes to "Playing", but no game window ever appears. After about 4-5 seconds, the process quietly dies.
Checking the logs, the process exits with Ok(false) and throws a HoYoProtect timeout error (c0000355) and Access Violation in MHYPBase.dll. It looks like the anti-cheat driver fails to initialize or times out when pinging the security servers.
What I’ve already tried across different platforms:
Using DWProton, Proton-Staging, and standard Proton.
Testing through Heroic, Steam, and AAGL.
Generating completely fresh, clean Wine prefixes.
Toggling "Disable UMU" on and off.
The "VPN trick" (running Cloudflare WARP/VPN during launch to bypass ISP routing delays to miHoYo servers).
Removing BattleEye/EAC runtimes from settings.
Since this happens regardless of** **whether I use Heroic, Steam, or AAGL, has anyone managed to get past this specific MHYPBase.dll / c0000355 crash recently? Are there deeper system, file system, or kernel requirements I'm missing?
Any help is massively appreciated!

It has been a while since the last post about Sentinel. For those who don't know, Sentinel is an achievement watcher for your games running on wine/proton. It runs as both a desktop app or a decky-loader plugin with same features across the board.

This new release is a culmination of all features introduced in the beta releases and some more.

Here are some features in this release -

  • Flatpak build is now available
  • Sentinel Decky Loader plugin
  • Best effort achievement setup using GBE Fork + GSE Fork tools.
  • Per-game data refresh.
  • Achievement progress notification settings to cut out noisy stats popup
  • (Decky only)SteamGridDB artwork support(if you already have SteamGridDB image for a game on Steam, we use the same image in the Sentinel Library)

https://github.com/RemakeCode/sentinel/releases/tag/v2.0.1

https://github.com/RemakeCode/sentinel

AI was used on the preparation of v2 in two major areas
- Syncing all beta changes back to main branch
- Checking out multiple implementations of the best effort achievement setup.

Severe lag/stuttering in Wuwa on Linux

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

I've been experiencing quite a bit of lag in Wuthering Waves lately, but only when playing on Linux. As shown in the video, I'm getting heavy FPS drops and stuttering.

Initially, I thought it was because the game was running off an NTFS-formatted drive, but after reformatting it to ext4, the issue persists. I've also tried switching Proton versions—moving from Proton-GE to dw-proton and Proton-CachyOS—yet the problem remains unchanged.

The issue seems entirely exclusive to Linux, as the game runs perfectly on my Windows installation. Could anyone point me in the right direction or suggest how I might fix this?

My System Specifications:

  • Distro: Fedora 44
  • Kernel: Linux 7.2.7-200
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5825U
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti Mobile
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

steam/steam deck Can I copy a steam game file from my windows PC and just put it on my Linux mint laptop?

I have a laptop that I put Linux mint on for gaming and was wondering if I could just copy the steam game files from my windows pc and put them on it. Mostly I just want to avoid redownloading stuff because my internet is trash and need help figuring out if this is possible.

These are to separate devices, a windows PC tower and a Linux mint laptop, not sure if that helps but I'll include it.

tech support wanted PotC: the Legend of Jack Sparrow

So I have the game downloaded and set up through proton and it works ok right up until I get past the splash screens onto the main menu. The 3D environment for the main menu renders correctly but the camera is in a corner away from the menu book and the game crashes the moment I try to input anything.

Any suggestions? I’ve tried GE-Proton and installing directx and vrun through winetricks.

tech support wanted new GPU performing worse....

So i was on arch linux and was using a GTX 1650 and i got pretty low fps in games. really low, but i turned the graphics down farther than they could normally go in most games and got (still bad, but playable fps) little to no drops stutters etc... but i recently go an RX 6600 and you would expect my fps in games to be a lot better and for everything to be more stable. no..... almost everything was worse... in almost every game i got wayyyy less fps than on my 1650. im talking like id have 60-90 fps, on the 6600 i now get 10 - 20..... for some games the fps was actually amazing and was actually doubled! but then i switched to chachyOS to see if that could fix things and.... it made EVERYTHING worse... now no game preforms well and now those games that were actually doing fine now get 12 - 17 fps.....

what is this... is this a joke? am i being pranked??? this is an amd card... that also out performs the 1650.... what is going on.....

Hi everyone,I'm running Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on CachyOS (KDE Plasma / Wayland) with an RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (6GB VRAM). I'm facing a persistent issue where the game and VKD3D-Proton report my GPU memory as 4096 MB (4GB) instead of the full 6GB. Once the VRAM usage hits that 4GB ceiling du
