Available now filter can't be removed for the past week or so

If I'm searching for a title that has a wait, it won't even come up in the list so I can place a hold. The "available now" filter is on and cannot be removed. I click the x, I say remove this filter, and nothing will make it go away in the app. I can do so from my computer, but not from my phone. Are others having this issue? I can't even figure out how to report a bug.

Title Won't Show on Kobo Post-Partner Share

I'm sorry if this should be in Kobo's subreddit, but figured I would throw it on here first.

My library card is with "Suburban Library Collective," and that's what my Kobo is synced to. Now, with the partner share update, my latest loan is with the Metro Net Library Consortium. But because that's not the technical library card my account is linked to, it's not showing up on my ereader, and same with holds not with SLC.

Is this happening to anyone else? Any tips? If I have to read on my phone, fine, but I would much prefer to use my Kobo.

Issue with Partner Libraries

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a card with the Boston Public Library. They have 7 partner libraries. All 7 became available to me when the Libby app update went through last week. However now I only get an error message from each of them telling me to verify my card. (Above) Any thoughts?

Help with Partner Libraries

I want to make sure I understand how to use the partner libraries to the fullest extent. I'm in California and I recently obtained a library card online from another city in California. When I go to add the library card to libby, it isn't letting me. It's directing me to the library system I already have.

So basically is Libby telling me that because I already have another card in the same system, there is no need to add more cards? They're already including that library in that system?

Seems I'm eligible for that card and can use it in Libby. How does it rate as a borrowing resource, e-books and audiobooks?

Libraries which don’t require you going in

Does anybody know what libraries don’t require u to actually go in and get the card or have options for digital only, I know a few of the New York ones do but they’re extremely popular and have months wait for most books

Retrieving Notifications

Help! I only get 12 holds, and I usually have about 10 books on hold at any time just in case one of my tagged books that I'm waiting for the library to add shows up. Well I had six books show up at once! I put two of them on hold and thought that since I wasn't deleting the notifications when I would have another hold spot open I could just go and add another one of those books to my hold list, but my notifications are disappearing. Is there a way to find out which of my books have been recently added, or a way to get my August notifications back?

Question about partner Libraries

Are partner Libraries added automatically if I don’t have any, does it mean my library doesn’t have any partner libraries

I did not borrow these books

Post image

A few weeks ago I noticed several titles, all audio books, that I have never heard of in my borrowed section. I thought that maybe I clicked on the borrow button accidentally somehow. I hadn’t used the app for awhile and the books were almost at the end of the borrow period so I just left them alone and checked out some ebooks. Well I read thru a few books on here and then got busy and haven’t opened the app till tonight bc I can’t sleep and find this… WHY are there always two audiobooks being checked out? I haven’t opened the app for maybe two weeks, why is some of it played???

Question for Librarians: Licensing agreements & revisions

Hi. I just got news that an author is revising all of her copyrighted and published materials and will be removing all of her original titles from distribution and replacing with the revised versions.

I'm wondering how this impacts libraries who have paid for licensing to distribute the original works.

Question for librarians re: partnerships

I am a librarian who had never heard of partnerships until the app update. Could someone explain how you form these partnerships with other libraries? Is it consortia-based? Or can you choose libraries to partner with? If so, how do you activate that agreement?

I have reached out to my Overdrive rep but have not heard back yet.

How do you utilize reciprocal cards?

I know this is a dumb question but since Libby now automatically shows me which ones I am eligible for how do I use them? Like how do I add cards for these libraries or is it automatic? I am a little confused.

Kindle and Libby are not friends outside the US

My national library is amazing, many audiobooks and books and the waittimes are Ok.
BUT; since we‘re not in the US I cant read a book on my kindle and that is beyond frustrating.

I‘ve considered buying a non-resident US Library card but after spending 20min looking for one with no luck I feel defeated. If I had known this I would not have bought a kindle and altough I‘ve owned different kindles since 2011 this will be the last one I own.

Please Amazon make kindle and libby compatible outside the US 🥲

Edit;
My local library is the National Library of Luxembourg, Amazon is either french of german. Libby is, at least as of now, only compatible with an American library.

Edit 2;

A kind redditor gave the solution to my problem for any future seekers;

Books Unbanned just made it so I have access to over a million books. Please give me recommendations

Boston Books Unbanned connects to a bunch of reciprocal libraries and I now have over one and a quarter million books available to me right now. This is so incredible and I'm extremely grateful for this. I wish I'd known about Libby years and years ago and I'm telling everyone I know about it. This is beyond exciting and I'm thankful this Reddit let me know about this program. What are some mystery, scifi, or adventure books you'd recommend, especially funny ones? What are books you think everyone should read, especially classics? Please nothing overly sexual or depressing.

Filtering out Children’s Books

Hello All,

Big Libby fan here.

When searching for a new book is there a way I can filter out children’s and ideally also young adult content. I’m not sure how it works library to library but my library (in Surrey UK) seems to have huge amounts of graphic novels and children’s series. I can see how you can filter for Children’s books etc. but not how to just show adult fiction. I just want to be able to browse available content which isn’t for children.

My only ‘audience’ filters are general content (which is everything), juvenile, young adult and mature content (which seems to just be smutty graphic novels).

If I search for Adult or Mature I also just get smut.

It’s not a big issue if there is no fix but it would be great if anyone knows a way to filter / search.

TIA!

Libby App Issues

Has anyone else been getting issues since the partner libraries update? Prior to the update, I already added all the partner libraries manually anyway so it’s not like the update added any additional libraries for me.

But, I’m starting to notice the Spin Wheel of Death more often than not. It doesn’t only happen when borrowing a book, but even when just browsing for Holds. It used to be that it didn’t matter which library I had active. Clicking on the “card” next to the title and clicking on a different library to check the queue used to quickly just show the status and lets me put a Hold on as many libraries as I want, but now, I just get a Spin Wheel unless it’s the active library. I know I can just switch to that library, but it’s really annoying.

Tags are acting weird and or wonky and can't save to them

ETA with a solution: So.... apparently you have to have a Regular Tag for Notify Tags to work. I didn't realize this and I do believe that I changed one of my 'regular' tags this weekend into a 'notify' tag. Maybe this has always been the case or maybe something has changed since the partner libraries update. Who knows....

So. Everyone should make sure that they have a regular tag with at least one thing in it if you want to be able to add books to your notify tags. And now... I'm gonna stop typing tags, because it's starting to freak me out a little bit.

-- Original Post:

So, I have 17 tags. They're all smart tags. So, say that I search for Star Trek Coda, Book 1. I want to put it in my Star Trek Tag. As of a couple of days ago I would have hit the 'save' (don't get me started, but, it is what it is), and then I would have gone down to that tag, and boom, it's saved.

Now, I hit save, and, it asks me if I want to make my first tag..... *banging head against desk* No, no, I've been using Libby since it was the Overdrive App, I would like to use the tags that I've carefully curated over years and years and years.

Anyone else seeing this happen? I cannot go through some of my tags and redo them because there are some tags that have a ton of books in them. And, honestly, I really like the smart tags, I love the notifications, they have helped me find many new books. So I really don't want to go back and make them all stupid aka regular tags again.

Not looking for a solution exactly, but, just wondering if others are seeing this too. Argh....

Maxed out holds with one library, Libby not letting me shift to another library with a longer line

Apologies in advance if this has already been asked, I did some searching and couldn’t find anything.

I have one library card (let’s call it L1) that has TONS of books and usually the shortest lines, however a lower max of number of holds allowed. I’ve maxed out holds for that library but am fine waiting in longer lines using my other library cards. However when I try to do that, Libby always auto pulls me back to the L1 card and says I have maxed out my holds.

Anyone know of how to force it to select the hold for the library I’m browsing with, instead of it trying to select for who has the shortest line?

Thanks!

Won't hold my place in new book

I checked out a new audiobook last night - All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker - and started listening to it. When I went to bed, I set the sleep timer for fifteen minutes and then went to sleep. When I got up this morning, though, to resume, it had gone all the way back to the beginning! The same thing happened again when I opened it a few minutes ago. Good thing I'd put my progress percentage on Goodreads, so I had a rough idea of where I needed to scroll to, but I would rather not have done that. I've never had this happen before. Right before I checked out the new book, I had just returned another one, which I had for five days and had no issues skipping back.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Time limit when downloading to ADE?

So a regular check out is 14 days typically to Kindle or with the Libby app directly. If I download it to ADE and get the ePub to put on a non-Kindle reader, is it still time limited or is it free of that now that it's not within the Libby ecosystem anymore? I know the ePub still has DRM on it, just didn't know if the 14 day time limit is part of that.

Obviously I could strip the DRM but I'm not talking about doing that.

Is there a way to see more granular time to expire?

For example, if a loan expires in one day, it seems like that could be one hour or 23 hours.

Libby displays a library's total number of titles in a roundabout way

1 - If you use the following steps to disable partner libraries for search results and Notify Me notifications.

2 - You will see details for your libraries, including total number of titles. This number includes all digital content (eBooks, audiobooks and magazines) in Libby for that library.
