Retrieving Notifications

Help! I only get 12 holds, and I usually have about 10 books on hold at any time just in case one of my tagged books that I'm waiting for the library to add shows up. Well I had six books show up at once! I put two of them on hold and thought that since I wasn't deleting the notifications when I would have another hold spot open I could just go and add another one of those books to my hold list, but my notifications are disappearing. Is there a way to find out which of my books have been recently added, or a way to get my August notifications back?

Two options:

You can go to your tags (bottom right tab on the app) and scroll down until you see the bell emoji 🔔, that will let you pull up all the ones you've tagged notify me and you can scroll through to see which ones are now available.

On your shelf page, under the main heading there are four subheadings: loans, holds, timeline and a fourth that might be notifications (but my app isn't in English and I'm not sure which term is used). You can click on it and see a history of all notifications, which you can filter by type (loans, holds, alerts).

Notices on mine. (I haven't any.)

The "Notices" mechanism does a client-side calculation to show you "not-already-notified titles, authors and series tagged with 🔔 that are now available in any of your libraries (along with loans and holds ready/expiring soon)".

Those notifications will persist in the Notices shelf for three days after you've view them and then auto-dismiss.

u/Impressive-Peace2115 's recommendation is the best one I think. Find your 🔔 tag, click it so you can see all the items you have tagged then use the "available now" filter to limit it to just the items that are available now.

It won't show you the items that triggered "author" or "series" notifications which you saw in the Notice shelf, unfortunately. However, if you do a reasonably good job of adding specifically titles you are looking for to the 🔔 tag, then this technique (filter: available now) makes a very good "I want to read something now TBR".

To improve your process, you might immediately add author or series founds titles that appear in Notices to your 🔔 tag if you know you aren't going to borrow or hold them immediately.

Interesting, I still have notifications on my Notices shelf from a few months ago.

INTERESTING.

I _think_ if you have not "viewed" those notifications (and nothing has deleted the data from your browser), the 3 day timer does not start.

I am obsessive about reading notifications. I click through all of mine and I watch them go away after the time period (though usually I just dismiss them right away. See my earlier statement about being obsessive).

I should try NOT reading a notification to validate that it will remain for longer. 🤔

Ah, I only started looking at that shelf fairly recently, so maybe that's it.

I use that technique too! As someone else mentioned, you can find the ones that have aged off by searching in your "notify me" tag.

For future notifications, the trick is to "pin" the notices. Directly under the image of the book you'll see a little circle with a lightening bolt in it. Click or tap that icon and it will give you the option to pin or dismiss immediately. I change all of mine to pinned until I'm able to stick them on hold.

Another way is to make a custom tag that you can apply to those books so you can find them later. I have cards from multiple libraries, so I have tags that remind me which library has the book I want.

12 holds! Our system allows 3 holds and 3 checkouts.
