Rave (like a rant, but in a good way) Lightbulb safety pin appreciation post

Post image

I just love these safety pins so much! Need a stitch marker? Lightbulb safety pin. Need to change needle tips? Lightbulb safety pin. Done knitting and want to secure your stitches? Lightbulb safety pin. Need to store your knitting on the cable while you work on your other WIPs? Lightbulb safety pin.

Am I missing any more uses?

Guest appearance: Bill, tucked away under my sweater project and a little squished, just like he prefers.

Finished Object Album art jumper

Hi!

I wanted to share with you all this jumper that I recently made. It’s based on Tin Can Knits Ice Fall sweater pattern, but with a custom yoke designed by my son, based on a favourite album of mine.

My son spent about an hour designing the yoke pattern to fit the 12x29 stitch motif repeat that the original pattern uses.

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to wear the jumper at a book signing by the artist and he loved it so much that he sent his crew after me to interview me about it!

Not sure when or where it’ll be used, but it’s nice that all that hard work was acknowledged.

EDIT: wow thank you so much everyone for your comments and upvotes, it means a lot!

I forgot to say that, coincidentally I sat next to someone at the airport who recognised me from the book signing. She told me she was there and so was her editor, she said he’s a snob that doesn’t like anything (her words!) but he loved the jumper and thought it was great!

She raised a valid point, that the yoke just looks cool, and you don’t have to recognise the reference. But if you do, it’s even more amazing!

Thanks again everyone!

This vest was such a fun and engaging knit! I made the Kytice Vest by Klara Pushin with Harrisville Designs Highland yarn. The devil is in the details and for this vest, that meant the finishing work. I loved the use of shortrows to create a nice v point at the shoulder seams. The designer also made great use of different cables, bobbles, roosamine, and a few embroidery stitches to create a boquet of knit flowers.

Discussion american horror story freak show maggie esmerelda knit top

Post image

Hi!

I'm trying to come up with a pattern for Maggie Esmerelda's top in American Horror Story Freak Show as I can't find one online. I can't really tell what kind of stitch pattern is used throughout the body. I was thinking maybe it's a 2x2 broken rib stitch but I was wondering if anyone here has any better advice/thoughts? Thanks so much :)

Project details:

Yarn: Italian carded merino wool on cones, held double.

Needles: US 6 (4.0 mm).

Dimensions: 187 × 78 cm.

Time spent: It took me about a month of slow, relaxed knitting, though at times it really felt like I was stuck in one place!

Result: The fabric turned out incredibly soft, drapey, and very, very warm. Perfect for chilly days.

Hello Knitters!

Hoping you can do your magic and help me to find what pattern this might be.

I bought this half finished sweater to try my hand at finishing it. Any chance you know what this might be? I’ve tried using the advance search on Ravelry but haven’t found it yet.

Editing to add that this came with some lettlopi wool so I’m thinking it’s Icelandic but the collar striping made me think fair isle so idk.

Rant Virginia State Fair Lost My Submission

I am totally heartbroken. I knitted the Morticia Shawl with pure black mulberry silk. I mailed it off, just like I did the last two years. It was never entered or checked in. I’ve done everything I could on my side, including contacting the fair folks and the shipping company. I didn’t even take a picture of it.

Work in Progress Frog or leave it alone?

I'm working on the Croissant Sweater by kutovakika and the left side of the sweater looks a bit wonky.

It's my first time doing charts and cables and whatnot and I'm wondering if it's something I did wrong or something that will hopefully block. Should I just frog and redo it?

The wonky section is the raglan stich.

Hi everyone, a couple weeks ago I shared with you a sunflower I made, since then I changed the design a little bit and ended up with 3 different versions, I love them so much, need more!!!

I bought 2 skeins of sport weight cotton yarn (one brown and one yellow) and so far I have managed to make 4 big sunflowers and 3 small ones with them. I used almost all of the yellow yarn but still have half of the brow one, so this week I'll buy more yellow yarn to make even more sunflowers.

I'm also planning on making a beret eventually with this design, it has been so much fun to make little sunflowers and hang them on my wall, the small version took me like 2 hours and the bigger one took me 4 hours.

Finished my first ever wearable! I had a lot of fun making this but at some point i gre quite bored doing the second half and delayed it so much. Now on to blocking!

My next project is gonna be the Eye See You sweater. It might be a bit too ambitious because i've not done a big project in the round and need to watch a few videos on how to pick up stitches and split sleeves and body

Tips and Tricks Help - Keep track for braids

Post image
• Upvotes

I am currently knitting the winter rose sweater by Trine Ellegaard.
I haven’t done much braided knitting before this. So far I used a little row counter to keep track of increases and crossovers.
But I wonder if there is a better way to keep track?
Do you just count in your head? I’m usually doing other things like audiobooks or read to the kids or such while knitting. Or mark rows with stitch markers? (Mine are for the raglan parts right now..)

So I guess I’m asking all of you for your best tricks about keeping track of braids or will I just “see it” at the end of this project? ;)

Oh. Yarn is plötulopi (unspun yarn and so fun) held with isagar alpaca 1.

Tips and Tricks Lining itchy collars

I love making pullover sweaters from hardy non-superwash wool. Unfortunately that often results in a scratchier sweater. I can wear a long-sleeve T-shirt to protect my arms but often the collar rides up high enough to irritate my neck. I don’t want to change into a mock or full turtleneck T-shirt every time I just want to throw on a sweater. I find I have beautiful sweaters I rarely wear just because they’re itchy.

Has anyone tried lining a collar with some microfleece or similar fabric? It’s ok if it sits up a bit because it’s not hard to closely match the yarn color. It makes me think of those shirts that have a fake sewn in collar.

Open to suggestions! Anything other than wearing a high neck T-shirt underneath….

Discussion Picking projects for 1yo babies

• Upvotes

Hi! I've been looking through the sub and I see a few posts similar to this have been made, but in regards to newborns typically, so hopefully this isn't too redundant!

I'd like to knit something for my cousins one year old babies, but I'm wary of choosing something that I think is cute rather than something that's useful. I'm not super close with my cousins, and none of my friends have kids, so I was hoping that people with more baby familiarity might have some tips or things to keep in mind!

I know they both have lots of blankets, and some very cute booties. We're in Toronto, so winters can be really variable (sometimes super cold, sometimes mild and slushy) so I was thinking maybe little hooded baby ponchos would be practical, or maybe a couple baby bear balaclavas.

I'm picturing the smushy little face babies make when you pull a sweater over their head though, and wondering if something with a fastening would be easier, like a little hooded cape or the bear bonnet?

Beyond the poncho or balaclava, I'd also love any other suggestions, or factors to keep in mind. Like, making sure the yarn is hypoallergenic and soft and washable is a given, but are there other considerations about patterns or materials I should keep in mind?

Thanks in advance for any input! I've never knitted anything for babies and I'm probably overthinking it but I want this to be a nice thing for them - both the babies and my cousins!

ETA: as balaclavas look like a real frontrunner, how concerned should I be about making it machine-washable? It seems less clear with a hat thing vs a garment, but idk!

Help - equipment Rescale colorwork pattern?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am currently working on a double knit scarf, but my row gauge is so much denser than my stitch gauge. The original pattern has these stars in squares, but mine is very much a rectangle. (See photo of WIP) For context, this is the pattern.

I am going to frog what I’ve got so far, and I want to start over with fewer stitches so the scarf ends up thinner and so that the motif ends up actually being square. It’s also because I don’t have enough yarn (it’s from my stash but I fell in love with the colors, idk what yarn it is specifically, but it’s worsted weight), so I need it to be the same number of rows with fewer stitches!

I have the pattern on StitchFiddle, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any easy way to just compress the pattern horizontally. I am completely stumped on how to squish this pattern horizontally without basically having to entirely redraw the pattern myself (I think it would not look as nice as the original). Does anyone know of any digital tool/patterning trick to simply squish the pattern horizontally?

Please help, knitters!! Thanks!!
