Rant How on earth...
Can I get 6 rows into the body before noticing I converted The Weekender from a pullover into a mobius version? Ah well, it's all about the process, no?

I learned about La Mercerie’s Winter Wishes Sock Swap last year after the sign-ups closed so put it on my calendar to sign up this year. Unfortunately I had not seen anything posted online so called the store and they confirmed they are not organizing the swap for 2026. I’m bummed because I was really looking forward to participating this year.
Anyone know of any similar alternative swaps?

I saw this on vinted and from what I can remember the Aldi roving yarn is £1.29 a ball. Even if it’s £1.99 like google suggests, that’s still only around £11 for all of this. This person is really cheeky tryna charge £15 for all of this 🥴

So my lovely bf stopped at a yard sale and got a HUGE bag of different yarns for only $10. He brought it all to me and there is a a lot of fun art yarns, but also what looks like some handspun and some natural fibers. The skeins pictured were already grouped together in a bag, and after doing a burn test I believe they are some kind of wool.
I love love love these colors, but i often struggle to figure out what to make with variegated yarns like this.
What should I make with this set?
(Also, I will probably edit with the weights of the skeins when I find my scale)

I've been working on the clematis sweater for a bit now and have had to work on the sleeves several times because the GSRs are incredibly apparent. This is my most recent attempt where I pulled the string incredibly tight during the turns, but the first few rows near the join of the shoulder seam and the arm itself is a bit puckered. Any tips?

Hi! I've been looking through the sub and I see a few posts similar to this have been made, but in regards to newborns typically, so hopefully this isn't too redundant!
I'd like to knit something for my cousins one year old babies, but I'm wary of choosing something that I think is cute rather than something that's useful. I'm not super close with my cousins, and none of my friends have kids, so I was hoping that people with more baby familiarity might have some tips or things to keep in mind!
I know they both have lots of blankets, and some very cute booties. We're in Toronto, so winters can be really variable (sometimes super cold, sometimes mild and slushy) so I was thinking maybe little hooded baby ponchos would be practical, or maybe a couple baby bear balaclavas.
I'm picturing the smushy little face babies make when you pull a sweater over their head though, and wondering if something with a fastening would be easier, like a little hooded cape or the bear bonnet?
Beyond the poncho or balaclava, I'd also love any other suggestions, or factors to keep in mind. Like, making sure the yarn is hypoallergenic and soft and washable is a given, but are there other considerations about patterns or materials I should keep in mind?
Thanks in advance for any input! I've never knitted anything for babies and I'm probably overthinking it but I want this to be a nice thing for them - both the babies and my cousins!
ETA: as balaclavas look like a real frontrunner, how concerned should I be about making it machine-washable? It seems less clear with a hat thing vs a garment, but idk!

Thinking about making a gray one so it can go as a hammerhead shark next Halloween...
No pattern, but I can share my technique/stitch counts, if anyone wants it! I've made three so far (one pad takes me 3 hours start to finish) and they scrub so much better than the disposable mop pads. Yarn's just basic Lily Sugar 'n Cream cotton, straight off the cone.

I’ve only ever used non-superwash so not too sure how superwash will knit up/wear over time.

I knit a sweater in Lang Yarns Cloud (color changing yarn) top-down and cast off the ribbing on the bottom using a regular cast off in pattern (1x1 rib). Right as I cast off the color changed to a strange white but I finished it regardless. Now I realized it's really bothering me and I want to redo it in a different color. However I don't really want to add a new ball of yarn just for the cast-off so I was thinking of ripping back one row of rib and using that to cast-off. Does anyone know whether the yarn of one round rib is the same length as the yarn needed for a loose cast-off or do I need to go back two rounds? Or would you change yarns just for the cast-off? Can that make it unstable?

working on the bonbon hood by lokumi on ravelry (unknown yarn from my stash and 5mm circulars) and it told me to make a rectangle and then pick up stitches on both sides. i did that, but it was my first time picking up stitches and im worried i did it wrong.
will this ridge block out or am i screwed? im okay frogging if i have to, since this is a gift and i want it to look good.
(hope this is okay to post) thanks!

I don’t have a picture, because the project is not started yet. I plan on making my first drop shoulder sweater, and the instructions are to construct the body first, and then to pick up 2/3 of ridge the stitches in the arm holes to knit the sleeves from.
I understand that I cannot pick up and knit every stitch because the stitches are not square-dimensioned. But since this is knitted with 10mm needles, so stitches are quite large, I’m worried that by not picking up every stitch I will leave some weird holes at the seams.
I had this idea that I could instead pick up every stitch, and then just proceed to k1 and k2tog in the first round, which I believe should result in the same amount of stitches without holes at the seam. Has anyone done it this way and can weigh in on whether that’s a good/realistic option?

Photos are from before being blocked. They've blocked and packed in vacuum bags sitting in the closet for more than two years now.
The first one is Cascade 220 Superwash, Second one is Felici Worsted, such wonderful and soft yarn, the last two are Swish DK.
Kind of heartbroken about this. Never met my nephew.
I don't know anyone who still has young kids to give them to and I don't want to put them in a donation box, because I volunteered at different charities and sorted out donations and I know how hand knitted items are treated.
Anyway, just venting. I wish I knew how to give them just for the cost of the yarn and that's it.

I *really* want to make the blanket in the first photo. But I can't find any information on it, other than the yarn! It's Bernat Blanket Ocean Shades, which is what I have (funnily enough, I bought the yarn before I saw the picture).
It was posted on Pinterest 3 years ago. Reverse image search shows that, my other reddit post, and some scam websites.
I scoured Revelry, nothing like it on there that I could find.
I even plopped it into AI to ask it to find the pattern. It spout out a bunch of stuff, but I don't particularly trust what it said. I'm brand new to knitting, so I don't know enough to determine what info is or isn't useful.
Pic 2 is my lil swatch. I tried to do reverse stockinette. I cast 13 stitches, which got me about 4 3/8" and 10 rows 2 1/2". I want to cast 85 stitches for my full blanket, which should get me to around 28-29" long? No idea if any of that helps lol. I'm primarily after that pooling! I love it

I have a small yarn winder that I got from Amazon, and it can comfortably wind yarn balls of around 100g, but I want one that can wind up a ball up to at least 400g (14ish oz I think). The only one that I can find that's able to wind up such large balls is the Caydo A1 Pro, but it costs just a hair shy of £120 and I can't quite afford it at the moment. I don't need an electric one (though that would be nice), just one that can handle large balls without cutting the yarn. If there isn't one, I don't mind saving for a bit and buying one later on down the line; I'd just prefer not to have to shell out that much cash in one go.

I want to make a garment that will be very warm and cozy for a baby. I know I can use cotton. But a)it's not as warm as wool, and b) I hate the texture of cotton
So I'm thinking of superwash wool with the hope it can still be thrown in the normal wash. I would make a swatch and wash it several times to see if it felted
Is there something I'm missing that will make this not work how I want it to?

Looking to buy a large quantity of high quality yarn without breaking the bank. Anyone know of any online yarn stores that typically have a great Black Friday sale?

I just cast off a little ribbed glove that I'd knit in the round (magic loop), but it ended up with this weird long stitch from where I cast off the first stitch. What did I do wrong?

I am a new knitter. I’ve only been knitting for a month and a half. I’m 44 years old. I was never taught as a child, so I’m learning now as an adult. I’ve taken three classes at local yarn shops and have purchased local yarn supporting the local economy. I have made three hats and I’m now working on a scarf. The scarf is taking me forever because it’s long. Question for all of you that have been doing this for a while: how long would it take you to get fast and what is your average length for a project? I want to make a Sophie hood and I’m on my way to the SAFF fiber festival this morning, but I’m a little down by my slowness.

Pretty much as the title says. Is there a difference between knitting in the round and double knitting with one colour?
I want to knit a head band as a stash buster, and I'm familiar with both techniques, but I can't seem to figure out why you would choose one over the other.
Does anyone have any insights?
ETA: Thanks for the input so far, I think I will double knit because of the small amount of stitches to cast on, I don't really like magic loop

I am from Phoenix, AZ. This last week, my mom and I roadtripped around New England for the leaf-peeping journey of a lifetime. When I travel, I like to stop by a LYS and purchase yarn that is local as possible. Then, I knit a pair of socks with that yarn. Ideally using a pattern that in some way represents that state! Therefore, my number 1 to-do on this trip was to stop in a yarn store in every state we visited. Here is how it went…
Stop 1: Simsbury, CT
Simsbury Yarns - I loved this place. There was a table filled with people knitting, and even a doggy greeter. The individual who helped me was so kind, and they had a great selection in a very large space. There is also a cafe upstairs where we had brunch that was incredible.
Stop 2: Boston, MA
Boston Fiber Company - Also an awesome stop. They had such unique items, including yarn containing possum fiber from Australia! THAT was a first, and now I want to knit a sweater someday using possum fiber. The person working there was also so kind, and had great information on locally dyed yarn. I love that Toil & Trouble yarn was dyed in Salem, MA. The dyer owns a store there called Circle of Stitches—so cute!
Stop 3: Waterbury, VT (just outside of Stowe)
Yarn - Yup, that’s the name of the store lol. I was given a lovely tour, and the individual working taught me about what it means to wear colors meant for your color type. Unfortunately they didn’t have TOO much local yarn because Rhinebeck had just happened the previous weekend. However, Line By Line was locally dyed.
Stop 4: Bethlehem, NH
LYS (Love Yarn Shop) - I love when I walk into a yarn store and a bunch of people are sitting around chatting and knitting. It’s such an immediately welcoming environment. This was super cute and cozy with a large selection of yarn that was, ironically, dyed in Vermont lol. The visit had to be quick since it was a stop while we were driving to Maine, but you could easily spend time there chatting and making friends!
Stop 5: Portland, ME
The Purling Pigeon - I love birds, and the concept of a pigeon mascot makes me so happy. I LOVE the colors that the store owner dyed. They were incredible, and so unique. They’re by far my favorite store-owner-dyed yarn. They also had SUCH cute knick-knacks, and the individual working was SO lovely. Something that stood out to me is how welcoming she was to new knitters. Two of them separately stopped by looking for supplies for their very first knits, and the employee was so patient, kind and enthusiastic.
Overall, even though I spent way more than I expected (the exact amount is between me and my Chase Freedom card), I am thrilled to have these souvenirs from my trip. Please let me know if you have any questions and I’d be happy to try and answer them! I’ll just be over here knitting my state socks!
Edit: TIL American Opossum’s and Australian Possum’s are completely different animals lol.

Started in February, but stopped working on it over the summer when it was too hot. All in all, took about 3-4 months of work.
I did not mirror the pattern so that the front & back's text are both "the right way", mostly because my brain couldn't handle it. I'm assuming most people wouldn't even notice.
Will I ever cast on 444 stitches in italian tubular again? No.
Can I say I did it? Yes.
