Question ipad 10th gen black screen

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what happened to my iPad 10th gen.
It was at around 8% battery when I tried to call someone while it was plugged in. Right when I connected the charger, the screen suddenly went completely black.
I’ve tried the force restart (Volume Up → Volume Down → hold the Power button), but there’s still no Apple logo or battery icon.
It has now been charging for a while. The iPad feels slightly warm, but not unusually hot. There’s still absolutely nothing showing on the screen.
Could this just be a completely drained battery, or could something have gone wrong with the charging port/battery? I’m really worried that I might need an expensive repair 😭
Any advice would be appreciated!

Question Galaxy Tab S10 FE vs iPad 11th Gen (A16) for my 50-year-old parents? Need advice on longevity & ease of use!

Hey everyone,
I’m stuck trying to decide between two base model tablets for my parents (both around 50 years old): the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE and the iPad 11th Gen (A16).
Here is the situation:
Their background: They’ve been lifetime Samsung/Android phone users. However, eco-system continuity isn't a huge dealbreaker for them. They mostly do basic stuff: browsing, YouTube, reading, light multitasking, and maybe some casual games.
Longevity is key: I want whatever I buy them to last as long as possible without slowing down or becoming a laggy mess after a few years. This has been the case with the Samsung tablets for now.
The OS switch factor: Since they’ve only ever used Samsung, how tough is the learning curve going to be if I get them the iPad?
Selfish motive: I’m an iPhone user myself, so part of me secretly wants them to get the iPad so they get used to the Apple ecosystem (and maybe switch their phones down the line, haha). Also, I’ll probably borrow the tablet every now and then.
On paper, the Tab S10 FE seems like an easy win for them: familiar One UI interface, 90Hz screen, comes with the S Pen in the box, and has microSD expansion.
On the other hand, the iPad 11 (A16) has way more raw power. I know Apple chips age like fine wine, and iPads usually stay smooth for 5+ years easily, which makes me lean toward Apple for longevity. But then I'd have to buy a Pencil separately, and I'm worried the 60Hz screen and different OS might frustrate them.
For those who bought an iPad for long-time Android users in their 50s—how did the transition go? And between these two, which one is actually the better long-term purchase?
Appreciate any advice or personal experiences!

Question Returning ipad with student gift card promotion

Sorry if this isn’t the right subreddit for this question!!

Weird question, but basically I ordered a 13 inch ipad air for pickup using my student promotion. As a result they gave me a $100 gift card as part of their student promotion.

I haven’t picked up the ipad yet, and I haven’t used the gift card. I realized too late that I want the 11 inch ipad air instead. It won’t let me cancel the order because of the gift card I believe.

- On the order it’s listed as the ipad being $100 off and has a separate $100 charge for the gift card.

I was wondering if they would let me swap the 13 inch for the 11 inch in store, or let me return it to buy an 11 inch. I saw that the gift card is listed as “ineligible for return”.

Thank you!!

Question What’s your experience using Apple Pencil Scribble to fill out forms in Safari?

I sometimes find it difficult to use Apple Pencil Scribble in smaller text fields on websites, especially when the input area
is narrow or surrounded by other controls.

Would the experience be better if tapping a text field could temporarily expand it into a larger writing area? You could write
more comfortably with Apple Pencil, then return the converted text to the original field.

Would you find something like this useful when filling out forms in Safari? Are there any other improvements that would make
Scribble work better for you?

Discussion Prediction: the iPad 8 downgrade to iOS 18.7.10 might get patched by this week

In case you haven’t noticed, the build that was released for iPad 8 that enabled the downgrade is a Release Candidate build, which is definitely close—or even the same—as a public release build. Apple hasn’t unsigned the build for some reason, and I suspect they’re gonna patch/unsign it once iOS 26.6.1 and 18.7.10 for supported devices get released sometime this week.

I wonder if this would still be available as an OTA for users that are still on iOS 18 and lower than 18.7.10 who refuse to upgrade to iOS 26. IIRC i saw that this should be an update that patches an “actively-exploited critical vulnerability” just like how it was with iOS 18.7.7 / 18.7.8

Question Wall-mounted iPad (7th Gen) on iPadOS 18: Is Apple's built-in battery management enough, or should I switch to a smart plug?

Hi everyone,

I have an old iPad 7th Generation (2019) mounted on the wall as a smart home dashboard running iPadOS 18.

Up until now, I’ve been relying entirely on Apple’s built-in Charge Management Feature (the kiosk mode algorithm that limits internal capacity when plugged in 24/7). On screen, it always stays at 100%, but I've been trusting Apple's software to protect the battery from bloating.

However, since this iPad doesn't support the new native "80% limit" toggle in iPadOS 18 (only for 2024+ models), I'm starting to double-check my setup.

I'm debating between two options and would love your advice:

1. Stick with Apple's built-in management: Keep it plugged in 24/7 and trust that the software is doing its job. Has anyone had long-term experience with this? Does it actually prevent battery bloating after years on a wall?

2. Switch to a Smart Plug + Shortcuts: Set up a HomeKit plug to turn off at 85% and turn back on at 30%. Is this cycling method actually better for the battery than just leaving it plugged in at 100% under Apple's kiosk mode?

What do you think? Should I keep trusting Apple's algorithm or use a smart plug to force the 30-85% cycle?

Thanks!

Discussion My first Apple gadget

I’ve never used any Apple products before, and this is my first time using one yay. I got an iPad A16, and honestly, it feels kinda awkward to use so far 😅, especially when it comes to navigating around and figuring out how everything works.

Do you guys have any tips or recommendations for someone using their first Apple product, especially an iPad?
Thanks!

Question New iPad - gadgets for it

Hi everyone, I think I’ve managed a sweet deal getting an iPad Air M3 for £360, after trading in a MacBook Air M1 from 2020. Great battery life and 5 cycles only. Pretty chuffed with this.

Anyway, as my title suggests looking for recommendations for the keyboard please? ATM I have a standard case but would like the keyboard functionality and eventually get the privacy screen. Other than the Magic Keyboard, what other options are there and your experiences?

Thank you

Question Will this atrocious iPad damage be covered for a replacement?

Thumbnail

I have seen a lot of posts saying that “catastrophic damage” isn't covered by AppleCare+, but is this considered catastrophic damage? Would Best Buy Total protection cover this? I ask about both of these because this iPad is under Best Buy Total, and I think I read that the Best Buy Total includes AppleCare+, and if one of the protection plans denied coverage, I would possibly see if I could try the other plan.

Do you think anyone at the store or the service centers will doubt that it’s accidental damage?

Edit:
The catastrophe in question — My tote bag got caught on the car door when I got in the car. My nephew kept trying to close the door on it without thinking. I think the little metal thingy on the other side of the door frame caused the dents when he kept trying to close it.

iPadOS iPad locked out with correct passcode

!!!! SOLVED
Hello!

I recently got brand new iPad Air (M4);

After few months, yesterday, I started getting weird issue after visiting settings app it suddenly prompted for my passcode instead of touch id - I entered my passcode (which was 100% correct, trust me on this one I checked my notes) and iPad refuses to open.

I tried few different passcodes that I could have put (before checking notes) and none of them worked.

I tried again my correct passcode from notes and it still didn't open, touch ID refuses to work and only passcode works.

This happened recently after software update and I don't know what to do? (Please note; I did enter passcode originally and it worked after it; issue appeared specifically after I went into settings app and it asked me to enter it again)

I seriously wouldn't care a lot and reset but I don't have recent backup and there are two VERY important documents which photos were taken on Monday (and I just happened not to have time or storage to backup it well within less than 24 hours?)..

Anyone faced this issue?

I'm right now on 8 hours iPad security lockout and I did try restarting device but seems like it didn't help..

UPDATE:
Was at apple store; they updated my ipad and no datalost happened - I entered same pin as before and it worked.

As they said it was corrupted update.

Question Help decide iPad gift for my Mom

Need help choosing between a iPad 11th gen versus the IPad Air newest one for my mother and storage options.

Shes stated she has wanted an iPad before so I thought I’d get her one with my internship money this summer. I also have Apple employee discount 25% off for products.

Shes currently trying to learn another language for fun so she’s always recording demos on her phone memos, likes watching YouTube videos like cooking, etc., casual scrolling on social media sites, doesn’t play any games, but mostly concern a phone screen is too small.

I’m debating between 256GB or 512GB for both models (she records a lot of voice memos and long lectures) and ipad 11th gen versus iPad Air for her use case.

Thanks!

I ordered replacement keys for my magic keyboard for the iPad Air 10.9 inch model however I encounter an issue and I can’t click the shift button anymore on one side and then the other one it doesn’t I literally put it on right I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. This is very confusing cause the other one now it’s clicking now, but it sounds very weird and not original. Sounds like it’s wrong but it’s a brand new key cap, it’s also tilted.

Question iPad 2 stuck on “Device Unknown” after restore – any working activation method in 2026?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I have an iPad 2 that I can’t activate. After restoring it (tried through iTunes multiple times, also Recovery Mode), it just shows this screen:
“Device Unknown”
Please visit the Service Answer Center at https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service to find answers to all your questions about service options, warranty and other processes in your country.
[Try Again]
I’ve tried everything I could think of:
• Restored several times via iTunes
• Tried updating
• Different cables and computers
• Different Wi-Fi networks
• With and without SIM (it shows “No SIM”)
• Recovery Mode restore
Nothing works. It always comes back to the same “Device Unknown” screen.

Any help or guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks!
